Chapter 1098
Inside the venue, Dexter couldn’t reach Josie on the phone and decided to leave.
The speech had ended, and Arnold stepped off the stage, blocking the path of the man who was leaving. “Mr. Russell, we meet again.”
“So, your speech was so enlightening that you plan to give me a private lesson, huh?” Dexter put away his phone, responding calmly without changing his expression.
“You must be joking. My modest skills are hardly worth showing off in front of you, Mr. Russell,” Arnold said with a smirk. “From the moment I met you, I felt a connection. I wonder if I have the honor of having tea with you.”
People were coming and going. A chilling glint flickered in Dexter’s eyes. “If all you have is chamomile tea, then no thank you.”
“There’s more, of course.”
In the secluded reception room, filled with vintage artifacts, the tea Arnold had prepared was no longer chamomile.
“Actually, Mr. Russell, the reason for inviting you today is not just for tea, but to watch a play.”
Dexter toyed with the cup in his hand, his expression unreadable. “Is it the scenario I’m thinking of?”
“Let’s see if we’re on the same page.” Arnold chuckled lightly, signaling his assistant to turn on the television.
It was a surveillance feed. In it, Josie was seen holding Scar hostage, surrounded by people.
Dexter furrowed his brow.
“Is it?” Arnold asked.
“You understand me as always, Mr. Mills.”
Arnold began to laugh.
“Mrs. Carter, I can’t say anything when you do this to me,” Scar spoke with indifference.
“I know it’s difficult for you, and I don’t want you to say too much. All you have to do is tell me how you took my father in the first place.”
Under the sunlight, Josie resembled a female warrior attending a duel alone. She was ruthless. Her blade had already drawn blood.
She knew she couldn’t determine Paul’s whereabouts, but she wanted to understand the details of the past.
“It wasn’t me,” Scar remained nonchalant.
Josie sighed. “Scar, it seems your family situation isn’t too good either. If it wasn’t for the heavy debts you owed, you wouldn’t have had to risk your life for Arnold. But money is a minor issue, people are what matter. Your sister is married now, isn’t she?”
Over the past two years, she had conducted extensive investigations on those associated with Paul, such as Scar’s family situation. His sister had once been violated, a fact unknown to her current husband. However, regardless of the man, it would be a matter of concern.
Feeling the palpable tension from Scar, Josie scoffed, “I have no intention of making things difficult for someone of my own gender, but if it’s for my father, I can afford to be selfish just this once.”
“If I killed you today, could you still spread the word?”
Scar became agitated. He cared deeply for his sister, and at that moment, he was enraged.
“Then go ahead. Let them all kill me! The moment you lay a hand on me, my people will immediately spread the news! Go ahead and give it a try.”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Scar took a deep breath. He dared not gamble
anymore. He could only stare blankly in the direction of the surveillance camera.
The two individuals in the office could discern the helplessness and plea for help in his eyes.
Arnold didn’t pay any attention to it. He chuckled and said to Dexter, “She has certainly grown up in the last two years.”
Dexter’s lips quirked up. He asked teasingly, “You know your subordinates. Do you think he will speak?”
“No one can deny the importance of their loved ones’ lives. This only demonstrates that he possesses a sense of conscience.”
“Are you not going to say anything?” Josie exerted more pressure.
Scar shut his eyes. “I will speak.”
