Chapter 2
It has been a couple of days. Jordan has sent a couple of texts but I don’t care to return them. I am not going to be used to get close to Courtney. She hasn’t commented on him and he hasn’t been to the apartment to pick her up, so I am assuming that she has shot him down.
When I am sitting in class that I share with Jordan I am praying that he takes the hint and stays far away from me. Only he plops down next to me. “Hey, what’s up?” His voice has a hint of concern in it.
“Not much.” I don’t even look over, he is just being nice to get close to Courtney, that’s the type of guy he is. I saw it clear as day Wednesday. It still kind of hurts. I thought maybe someone might actually like me, but no.
“So, do you want to go to that party today?” Boy is he dense too?
“No. I already said that isn’t my thing. You should ask Courtney.”
“She’s a bit too showy for me.”
I roll my eyes. “Could have fooled me.” I mutter. But he caught it.
“Is that what this is? Because I talked to her the other day. I was just letting you get to class. You told me you had to hurry.”
“Sure whatever.” I know he is lying. I saw the way he looked at her. It was full of lust. Plus he had no problem following me until he saw her.
I feel a hand on my shoulder. “Hey, I’m serious. Come to the party with me, you’ll see.”
“I told you not my thing.”
“Ok, then how about that coffee?”
I sigh, “Fine, how about tomorrow morning. I will meet you at the campus coffee place at eight.” I only agreed to get him to shut up. I already have his number. He’s not really interested in me as a person. He’s interested in Courtney.
“It’s a date. So what are you doing tonight?”
I lean back in my seat. “Not really much of anything. I have to clean the apartment this weekend so I am probably going to stay in with a movie.”
“I could come over and help this weekend. Then we could go out to a movie or something this weekend.”
I scoff. “No thanks.” I know he just wants to go to the apartment so he can see Courtney. If he knows where we live, then he will drop by whenever he feels like it.
“We’ll talk more about it tomorrow over coffee.”
I want to tell him that he can shove it, but the professor starts up. This guy is just pushing my buttons. If he wants Courtney than he needs to go directly to her, stop trying to fuck around with me. I hate it when guys do that.
Jordan tries to walk with me again after class, but I make some lame ass excuse that I don’t even buy and leave him there. I used something about needing to wash my hair and I wanted to be in the right headspace for it. Yeah, total bullshit. I am headed home and I don’t want him following me. At this point he doesn’t know where we live and I am happy to keep it that way.
Once I get home I strip down to some cozy clothes. I put on a cami and a pair of sleep shorts. I just want to relax, do some homework and watch a movie. Is that too much to ask people? Maybe even order a pizza.
Apparently it is too much to ask. After I order the pizza and I am waiting for it, when there is a knock on the door. I go to answer it expecting the delivery guy but it isn’t. A very attractive asshole is standing at the door. He smiles when I open the door. “Courtney’s not here.”
He nods. “Good, I was looking for you.”
I am shocked. This is Kyle Miller, we have known him forever. He has dated Courtney in the past but it didn’t work out I guess. Courtney is just not the type to stay with one guy for long. Even if he is Kyle. He is sculpted by God himself. His perfect blond hair hangs from his forehead, just low enough that it just passes his eyebrows. His blue eyes seem to sparkle when he smiles. Don’t even get me started on the dimples.
“What are you looking for me for?”
He points to the door. “Aren’t you going to invite me in?”
I groan and walk away from the door leaving it open for him to come in. “Just make it quick. I am expecting a pizza soon.”
“Really, that is your friday night, movie and pizza alone?”
I turn and look at him. “Is there a problem with it?”
He shrugs and puts his hands in his pockets. “No, not if you want to be an old cat lady.”
I laugh. “Well, good thing I like cats then. What do you want Kyle?” We have known each other for a really long time. I am comfortable with him. I guess that’s why I am not even trying to cover myself up with him. Honestly I never cared if he saw me.
He bites his bottom lip, surprising me he takes my hands and leads me to the couch, making me take a seat. “Now, I want you to hear me out before you shoot me down.”
“Why do I get the feeling that I am not going to like this?”
“Because you probably aren’t. Alright, Danny, I need your help.” He sounds like he is getting ready to run for congress and this is his speech.
He looks desperate even. What the hell is going on? “Ok, what is it?”
“Now, don’t say no until I get through it all ok.”
“Just tell me what it is.” I groan in frustration.
He starts pacing up and down in front of me. “Ok, so the guys on the football team kind of have this bet. I need you to be my girlfriend for a bit.”
“No!”
“Come on, I wasn’t done.” He looks kind of cute when he is pleading. Stop it Danny. Kyle isn’t like that with you. Don’t be weird.
“Fine, finish and then I’ll tell you no.”
“I expected you to say no. Look, I need the money. You just pretend to be my girlfriend for a bit and then I tell them all that we slept together and then I brake up with you. It makes me look like an ass.”
“Well, I like the part where you look like an ass, can we just skip to that part?” I give him a quirky smile.
“No, I need you to be my girlfriend so they believe that you slept with me. No one is going to believe that you just slept with me.”
“What exactly is this bet?” I cock my eyebrow at him.
“The first guy to bag a virgin.”Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Ah, I knew there was one of those going around.” That explains another thing that Jordan could be doing. Jordan is not a good guy to be around.
“You’re still a virgin right? I mean you still dress like one.”
“That is a bit personal Kyle.” I glare at him.
“We have known each other too long to not be impersonal.” He gives me that knowing look. We have known each other all through school, there aren’t many other people who have known each other as long as we have. If there is one thing about Kyle he has always been completely honest with me.
“Yeah, I am. Doesn’t mean that I am going to pretend that I slept with you. Or be your girlfriend for however long. I am not doing that. What do I even get out of it?”
“Well, there is the fact that you won’t be invisible any more. People will take notice of you. Plus I will tell them all how great you were in bed. You will have guys jumping over themselves to be with you.” His voice kind of strains at that last part.
“No. I like being invisible. Find another girl.” I’m shaking my head frantically.
Kyle drops to his knees in front of me and puts his hands together in the pleading pose. “Please Danny. I will never ask for anything else again.”
“Liar.”
“Ok, I may ask for something later on. Please.”
I think for a moment, is it really something I want to do? I sigh, because I know I will do it. Just because I am the person who will do anything for my friends and Kyle is sort of a friend. “Alright, but I get half the money.” I expect him to back down, but he smiles.
“Done. Now get dressed.” He jumps up on his feet.
“What?” I stare at him shocked.
“Get dressed, we have a party to get to.”
“Well now I already don’t like this deal.” Still I get up and head to the bedroom. There goes my night.
I pull on a pair of jeans, a tank top and my oversized hoodie. It is big enough that it ends almost to my knees. I like it, it keeps me invisible. I put my hair up in a messy bun and call it good with my Vans in place. When I come out Kyle smiles. “Good, you look the part.”
“This is me Kyle.” I see my pizza on the counter, the box already open. “You were eating my pizza.”
“You aren’t going to eat the whole thing.”
“That is not the point.” I groan and point to the door. I should have known, we like the same kind of pizza, chicken with garlic sauce and olives. “Let’s get this over with.”
Kyle leads the way out of the apartment and I lock up.
