Carlene shouted towards the lake. She was not sure if Alex could hear her. But seeing him vanished from her sight was too unnerving.
She kept telling herself that everything would be okay with Alex. But she could not control her tears. Soon, her pair of beautiful eyes were swollen and red.
Time passed and there was still no sign of Alex. She finally lost it.
Why?
Why do bad things happen to good people?!
She was alive all because of Alex.
He saved her twice from the merciless creature. If not for him, she would have been dead by now.
Tears rolled down her cheeks fiercely. She was desperately clinging to the last hope that was seeping away as every second passed and lethargy set in.
Is he really dead?
No… No… He will come back alive!
She was struggling to reach the bank. She turned her head towards where she last saw Alex. She felt cold.
“Don’t just stand there and watch! Do something!” Jessica shouted at everyone. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
Everyone suddenly became restless, trying to avoid eye contact with Jessica.
She must be crazy. Who would jump into the lake to save Alex?No one could survive a ten–foot–long alligator!
But Jessica was fixed on getting someone to help. She put on her heels and walked towards Zechariah. Without a second thought, she knelt down before him. “Please, Zachariah, save him! Alex saved us from the creature. Please do something to get him back safely!”
Jessica knew Zachariah was her last hope.
Zachariah was not moved at all. He feigned a sympathetic look and replied, “Look, I’m equally sad about what happened to Alex, but I can’t swim. Besides, it’s an alligator and there is no chance I’ll survive even if I go!”
Zachariah lamented the inevitable misfortune, but he felt immense pleasure in his heart.
Jessica saw through his hypocrisy. She knew her last hope was gone.
She was desperate. “Zachariah! If you save Alex, I’ll be your girlfriend! That’s what you’ve wanted all this while isn’t it? Alex’s not my boyfriend, he’s just my colleague!”
That was her last resort. She had to do it.
Zachariah was shaken. It never occurred to him that everything Alex and Jessica did was just a bluff.

He looked at Jessica. She was devastated, and her offer was rather tempting.
But there was really nothing he could do to save Alex.
Unless he did not mind dying.

He sneered, saying, “Jessica, you’re the reason why Alex’s dead! Don’t even try putting the blame on me! Now that he’s dead, you’ll spend your whole life in regret!”
Zachariah knew he would not be able to save Alex. Since there was clearly no way Jessica could ever be his girlfriend, he blurted out whatever was on his mind.
After hearing his words, Jessica broke down and cried.
She wanted to retaliate, but there was nothing she could say.
It was true. She was the reason why Alex died.
Guilt crept in.
But even guilt could not bring him back to life.
The waters were still ominously calm. A hint of fresh blood tinted the water red.
It had been two minutes since both the alligator and Alex went down.
The calm on the surface concealed the raging battle happening underneath. Alex was still fighting the creature with the last bit of his remaining strength.
His determination of vanquishing the animal was the only thing that kept him going.
The alligator did not have the upper–hand either.
The corner of its jaw was torn. The pain must be unfathomable seeing how the wounds were exacerbating.
If not for the alligator’s thik skin, Alex would have ripped its jaws apart by now.
Seeing the tear around the alligator’s jaw enlarging, Alex felt more confident. He knew he could tear this creature apart.
I’ll rip you to pieces! Die now!
Alex looked at the four–inch wound. The alligator was in intense pain and it was losing its strength. Alex knew it was time to give it the last blow.
He mustered the last shreds of his Mortal Force and struck the animal.
With all his strength, he tore the animal into half.
