Love At Last

Being gas lighted

Lily

I looked at him while he spoke like he was about to run mad. I was driving him crazy, I liked it.

“Look, I’m only doing what you asked of me, to be nice to everyone. Isn’t that what you said? That you’re sure I’m nice to everyone? Aren’t you happy? I’m doing what you wanted” Cayden looked so disappointed

“I’m so tired of your excesses, it’s frustrating. I never thought you’d slot yourself out like this, for every man to talk to and flirt with” He shook his head.

“I spoke to Aaron and he told me that he wants to try and get you. I told him that will never happen, you’re too smart and decent for him but you know what? You’re exactly his type, the kind that will be used like every other girl that showcases themselves around men like him and gets dumped. Such a horrible sight to see ”

I laughed

“And you? Are you any better? You presume to be gentle and caring but you’re just another playboy struggling to get out of the street how far has that worked for you? You know, you could have just picked another one of those girls that you pick up from bars and the likes but you wanted me to come with you because you knew I was more decent than you just previously said.” I felt proud of my defence, even if he still annoyingly looked at me.

He murmured some insulting words under his breath. I didn’t want to hear them anyway, I was getting tired of being there, and I needed to leave. Some ladies and old women started walking our way, slowly passing remarks loud enough for me to hear

“Such a slot”

“She doesn’t belong here”

“She doesn’t deserve a man like him”

“Why would he bring a scavenger like her here”

“All over Aaron like she hadn’t seen the man before”

I heard all of these comments and it got me angry.

“All of this is just because I was trying to help you, now look what I’m going through. I have a brand I’m trying to protect for Christ’s sake!” I turned over to the ladies;

“Ladies, why are you in a hurry to go back? You should’ve come back and said all those remarks to my face! Come one, don’t be shy!” They came back but maintained a safe distance between us

“Say what you were saying to me to my face, let’s see who has the balls” I stood facing them, arms folded. Cayden just watched in dismay.© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

The ladies were shocked

“I thought y’all were bold earlier? Come on? Say it!”

“We weren’t saying anything, madam”

“Oh really? Now you address me as madam?” I laughed and shook my head.

“You all think you’re better than me, yea? Aren’t you all just feeding off of your spouses and boyfriends? I have an establishment, I’m more independent than any of you right now so technically we’re not on the same level and yea, go fuck yourselves!!!”

People started gathering, I didn’t realize that I had caused quite the scene.

“What are y’all looking at? Huh?”

Cayden quickly stepped in and dragged me out of there, apologizing to the ladies

“Apologizing? Really? After what they said to me?” He didn’t say a word. He took me back and told me to stay put at the entrance

“I’ll be back, need to say a few goodbyes, don’t do anything stupid, okay?” I rolled my eyes at him.

I watched him say goodbye to the host and other important guests at dinner. He seemed like a pretty important person. Don’t want to spoil his image but I’ve just gotta have my fun. Imagine being married to someone like that, being number two in the chain of command, attending dinners and balls, going for expensive dates and eating at expensive restaurants with designer gowns, having chauffeurs and giving the best life to Jacek and Nana. Quite the luxurious life, yea? But I don’t want to be a slave, I want a deep love connection not for material things, someone that I can be overly understanding and rational with. Cayden always turns everything into a fight, it’s ridiculous and tiring. Can’t deal with his childish ass.

Some ladies saw that I had been staring for a while and came to talk trash to me. I recognized one from the ladies outside earlier

“Still not stared at your man enough? Get a grip on yourself! We’re very collected people here and I don’t know how you do things from where you came from but it’s high time you go back to that slum”

Luckily for me, I was close to the champagne tower. I took a glass and emptied it on the lady’s face

“Are you crazy???” She shouted and Laughed loudly

“I don’t know what it is with you ladies, you don’t get tired of picking on people? You should be lucky I didn’t punch you in the face. The only thing stopping me from doing that is that man right there, alright?” I pointed to Cayden, who had not yet realized what was happening.

“You should leave, like now!” One of the other ladies said. I turned towards Cayden, he noticed what was happening and started walking towards me. I quickly arranged myself but I couldn’t really hide it, people were staring at me already and the lady that I poured wine on was still there like she wanted Cayden to see.

Reaching me, he gave a very deadly stare like a mum gives her child when she’s preparing her for the scolding she’s gonna give him when they get home.

“I’m so sorry ladies, forgive her for she’s drunk. Yea, she had a lot to drink this evening, like a lot”

He turned to me and said, “let’s go! You’ve embarrassed me enough for a day!” I didn’t know what to say “why Lily?”

I felt embarrassed that he apologize to those ladies when he didn’t even know what happened. That was hurtful
