Chapter 572 Gwendolyn Fainted
Chapter 572 Gwendolyn Fainted
Annie patted her on the hand as consolation and continued, “Don’t worry, Mrs. Harris. I am simply helping you and Mr. Asher reclaim what rightfully belongs to you two while getting Antea Group a couple of collaboration projects while I’m at it. There’s no way I’d harm anyone’s life!”
She then leaned in close and whispered into Sienna’s ear, “The preparations for tomorrow night are complete. All you have to do is play along with me, Mrs. Harris.”
Given how cautious Annie was being Sienna decided not to ask any further as doing so would only make her suspicious.
“It’s getting late. You should get some rest, Ms. Annie.”
Sienna then pulled her hand back and made her way upstairs.
Annie simply watched her go without saying a word.
The next day, Gwendolyn took her own sweet time returning to Mount Tranquil after completing her preparations.
Because Asher’s legs were hurting, he never left his bed except to shower and use the bathroom. Sienna even had to feed him his meals in bed.
The chefs were busy preparing dinner in the kitchen when Gwendolyn arrived. She caught a whiff of the fragrant aroma of the food the moment she entered the house.
Sienna and Annie welcomed her at the front door, but she simply flashed them a cold look before heading upstairs to check on Asher.
“Sienna, Ms. Annie, please step outside for a bit. There is something that I would like to discuss with Asher in private.”
“All right. Don’t take too long, though. Dinner is almost ready.”
Gwendolyn nodded and waited until the two had left the room before locking the door from inside. She then walked up to the frail Asher, who was leaning on the headboard, and sat down beside his bed.
“What would you like to ask me about, Ms. Harris?” Asher asked in a hoarse voice.
“I want to know what you’re running away from.”
“What do you mean by that?” he asked, lowering his gaze.
“With your strong physique, it’s not possible for you to remain bedridden for three days straight even though your rheumatism was acting up, and yet, look at you now. You refuse to get out of bed and need Sienna to feed you every meal,” Gwendolyn said, exposing his pretense instantly.
Asher simply blinked at her and lowered his gaze in silence.
“You want to stay out of this and let Annie and I fight each other so you can side with the winner later on. Is that what you’re trying to do?” Gwendolyn pressed on.
Asher clutched at the blanket without saying a word.
Gwendolyn shot him an icy–cold glare before gracefully standing up and smoothening out the wrinkles
on her skirt. “I suggest you take some time to think this through. If Annie is not related to Evelyn, then she will naturally have nothing to do with you. If the contrary is true, however, you will have to make a choice. Just keep in mind that Kieran, Treyton, and everyone else in the Harris family will never forgive you if you make the wrong choice, and Sienna will suffer along with you,” Gwendolyn said before turning around and walking toward the door.
“I’m not running away from anything, Kiddo. I just…”
Not wanting to hear his explanation, Gwendolyn opened the door and walked straight out of the master bedroom without sparing him another glance.
Asher had a conflicted look in his eyes as he stared at the empty room around him.
Sienna and Annie were already seated at the dining table by the time Gwendolyn made her way downstairs.
They seemed to be having a pleasant conversation.
Gwendolyn walked up to the table and sat down at the main seat.
The look on Annie’s face was frozen for a split second when she saw that Gwendolyn did not even think to leave that seat vacant for Asher. However, she was quick to regain her composure and went back to smiling gently again.
Since everyone had already taken their seats at the dining table, the chefs quickly served up the food.
“Did we hire a new chef?” Gwendolyn asked Sienna when she saw that some of the dishes were new.
“Yes, that’s right. Ms. Annie said she wanted to have some Ospean food, so we hired a chef from Ospea to prepare them for her. These five dishes are the ones that new chef made.”
Gwendolyn picked up her fork and tasted one of the dishes that resembled tater tots.
“Hmm, it tastes pretty good.”
Acting as though the compliment was directed at her, Annie spoke happily as her face lit up with joy. “Have some more if you like it, Ms. Harris. The Ospean chef has also made us all some marinated steak. Would you care to try some, Ms. Harris?”
She then shot the Ospean chef, who was standing behind her, a glance.
The chef quickly retrieved three plates of steak from the kitchen and served them up.
“The sear on the steak makes it look very appetizing, and it smells great with the red wine and black pepper sauce,” Gwendolyn commented while admiring the steak before her.
After receiving the cutlery from the housekeepers, Gwendolyn gracefully cut a small chunk of the steak and put it in her mouth.
Both Sienna and Annie stared at her as she munched on it.
The former’s eyes were filled with anxiety, whereas the latter’s were filled with glee.
“Why are you two looking at me like that?” Gwendolyn asked when she noticed their reactions.
“I’m simply amazed by your elegance and grace when cutting the steak, Ms. Harris. Who would’ve
LA
thought a person could look this good while dining? You truly live up to your status as Chanaea’s wealthiest woman!” Annie replied with a smile.
“Oh, spare me the flattery. I still have some business to attend to later tonight, so let’s just get this dinner over with as soon as possible,” Gwendolyn replied without any hesitation whatsoever.
Annie retracted her gaze and continued eating her steak in silence.
With no one else talking at the dinner table, the meal was over fairly quickly.
Gwendolyn felt fine during the meal, but she started feeling unwell when she had just finished her food and began massaging her forehead weakly.
“What’s wrong, Gwen?” Sienna asked worriedly.
Gwendolyn didn’t think much about it at the time. “It’s nothing. I’m probably just too tired from overworking lately. I should be fine after taking a break in your guest room, Sienna.”
“Sure thing. Here, let me walk you there.”
Sienna then helped Gwendolyn up the stairs and was about to bring her to the guest room.
Once they were out of Annie’s sight, Gwendolyn quickly retrieved a pill she had prepared beforehand and popped it into her mouth before collapsing into Sienna’s arms.
“Gwen? Gwen! Wake up!”
Annie came running over as soon as she heard Sienna’s anxious cries.
“Did Ms. Harris faint?”
Not wanting to play along with her any further, Sienna said, “Yes, she’s unconscious, so you can drop the act now. Did you spike her steak with something? What should we do now?”
The look on Annie’s face grew cold instantly as she replied, “Don’t worry; it’s just a sedative. Get her into the
guest room and tie her up.”
Sienna did as told while Annie returned to her room, put on a pair of leather gloves to hide her fingerprints, and retrieved a document that Paul had the chef deliver to her.
After grabbing a black pen as well, Annie made her way over to the guest room where Gwendolyn was being held in.
Sienna had tied the unconscious Gwendolyn’s arms and ankles up with ropes.
Annie placed the documents down on the table and signed Gwendolyn’s name on the bottom right corner. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
Sienna leaned in to have a better look, only to realize it was a document to have Gwendolyn hand Harris Group over. Annie’s forged signature looked so similar to Gwendolyn’s that it was almost impossible to tell the difference.
“How are you able to forge Gwendolyn’s signature?” Sienna exclaimed in shock.
“Ms. Harris is a businesswoman whom I admire deeply, so I learned her signature a long time ago,” Annie replied nonchalantly while signing the document.
That was when Sienna realized something.
The fact that Annie had learned to forge Gwendolyn’s signature implied she had planned this all in advance.
