Hope nodded. As they looked up at the sky, the fireworks started! The dark sky was lit up by colorful shapes. It was a spectacular view! Just as the audience’s sense of anticipation started to die down, the sky lit up with a firework in the shape of the island.
“Maia, did you see that? It’s the shape of the island! This is the main show. It’s really
beautiful!” Hope commented excitedly. She was in awe at how amazing the fireworks were as they continued to blossom in the sky.
The fireworks were set off so rapidly that Hope’s eyes could not keep up with them. Various shapes and colors formed in the dark sky. Before she could see them all, they were already gone.
Aside from the staff of Maya Cove, most people on the beach were famous people who had been to all kinds of events. Yet, they were still mesmerized by the island's fireworks show.
The fireworks continued when suddenly the phrase ’11 years‘ appeared in the sky. Everyone was confused as to what it meant. As Maia was so focused on the show, she too was taken aback to see ’11 years’ appearing in the sky. “| wonder what that means. Maia, do you know?” Hope tilted her head and asked in confusion.
When Hope did not receive any response, she turned to Maia. “Could this be the anniversary of Maya Cove? But | don’t think HL Corporation would've taken that long to build this place.”
Hope continued to wonder, but Maia still had not given her any response.
“Maia? Maia? Are you okay? Are you so mesmerized by the fireworks that you can’t answer my questions?” Hope pestered incessantly.
As Hope continued to talk to her, Maia was finally drawn back to reality. Just then, someone approached them and stood at Maia’s side.
Hope’s eyes widened in shock as she wanted to yelp, but before she could react, Cedric signaled her to stay quiet.
Hope was a smart girl. She pointed at a different direction and indicated that she would leave. After that, she took a few steps back and disappeared from Maia’s side.
Maia was not aware that Hope had left and somebody else had replaced her. Maia mumbled ’11 years‘ to herself and smiled bitterly. No one knew how much those numbers had meant to her. It was 11 years of love, heartache and pain.
She could not hold it in any longer as her emotions overwhelmed her. Tears started streaming down her face. Maia lowered her head as her hair framed her face and danced in the wind.

Maia lifted her head to the sky as the next firework was set off. Her tears fell onto the sandy beach, but to Cedric it felt as though they were dropped into his chest as he felt a scorching
sensation in his heart.
“There’s a local myth. If a couple watches the fireworks together, they would be together forever.” Maia turned her head toward the familiar voice. Their eyes met and they could feel
an instant attraction between them.
Cedric lit the sparkler in his hand and gave it to Maia. She froze for a while before raising her hand to accept it. As she looked at the beautiful sparkler, she recalled the winter that they had spent together.
That day, they had walked side by side in the snow.
“| heard that if a couple walks together in the snow, they will be together forever.
“That’s just a superstition.”
Maia looked at the sparkler as it extinguished in her hand. She smiled and glanced at Cedric.” That's just a superstition.” History had a tendency to repeat itself. It was just that their roles had switched.
“When the fireworks end, there will be nothing left. How could we be together forever? Just like when snow melts, nothing lasts as well.” Maia concluded as she threw the extinguished sparkle in the trash can and turned to leave.
Just as she was about to leave, he confessed. “Even if there’s nothing left, as long as I’m alive, I'll always have your back.” This was his promise to her.
Maia came to a halt as she was surprised by his earnest tone. She took a deep breath, clenched her hands tightly into fists and said, “I don’t need anyone to have my back.”
Maia rejected him and left without turning back.
At that moment, a few female artists started to gather around Cedric, including Fiona. She was wearing a sheer top with her bikini showing under it. She walked toward Cedric and addressed him sultrily.
“Leave.” Cedric ordered, not even looking at them. The crowd immediately dissipated in fear of angering him. Fiona stood on the spot awkwardly as she watched him leave. She gritted her teeth in anger as
she had ended up being humiliated.
After he had left, Fiona’s goons approached her and asked with concern, “Fiona, are you okay?”
