CHAPTER 481
Chapter 481
“Huh?” Sherilyn glanced at the arm Charles was holding, “Something wrong?” © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Was he not letting her go?
Something wrong? Charles was taken aback, a scornful laugh escaping him. She really asked that?
Even though she was Mr. Gilbert’s girlfriend, Charles couldn’t be too polite at the moment. His tone was cold and firm, “You can’t leave. Mr. Gilbert needs to see you when he wakes up.”
“Why?” Sherilyn frowned, genuinely confused. “I’m not a doctor, nor a nurse.”
Was she serious?
Charles was momentarily speechless, his frustration rising, “You’re Mr. Gilbert’s girlfriend. Mr. Gilbert hasn’t woken up yet, and you’re just going to walk away? Is that appropriate?”
His righteous indignation made it seem as if Sherilyn had committed some heinous crime.
Sherilyn, far from angry, simply smiled and scanned the room.
“Do you even know for whom Mr. Gilbert got injured? It seems you’re clueless.”
This… Charles was stunned, his gaze flickering with guilt.
Sherilyn maintained her amused expression, “Your Mr. Gilbert got hurt because of Caroline Bennett. When he wakes up, it’s her he’ll want to see, not me. My presence here is irrelevant.”
Then, she struggled free from Charles‘ grip.
“Can you let go now?”
Charles was at a loss for words, unable to retort, and he reluctantly released her.
Sherilyn nodded with a smile, “Thank you.”
Without another moment’s delay, she turned and left.
Charles stood there, at a loss. What now?
Even though Sherilyn’s logic was sound, he still felt that Gilbert would want to see her upon waking up.
Sherilyn really seemed indifferent towards Gilbert.
By nine o’clock, Gilbert woke up.
He didn’t feel uncomfortable, just as if he had been sleeping for a very long time.
“Gilbert, you’re up.” It was Caroline, sounding totally surprised.
She was wearing the same hospital gown as him. Unlike Gilbert, she wasn’t injured, just a bit shaken and cold from the ordeal. Still, Francis Johnson insisted she stay for a check–up, just to be safe.
At the moment, Francis was also by Gilbert’s bedside.
Gilbert nodded, “Caroline, big bro.”
You finally woke up.”
Caroline glared at him lightly, “You slept for too long. How do you feel? Are you in pain anywhere?”
“No.” Gilbert assessed himself, “Just a bit stiff.”

“Stay still.”
Caroline rushed to support him, scolding, “Why are you moving around? With so many injuries, you need to rest properly.”
“It’s okay…”
Gilbert smiled nonchalantly, “They’re just superficial wounds.”
Looking up at Francis, he asked, “Big bro, does Sherilyn know about my injury?”
He was still thinking about a call from Sherilyn before he got injured, “Did you contact Sherilyn? Is she okay?”
“Hmph.”
Before Francis could answer, Caroline scoffed, her tone mocking, “What could possibly be wrong with her? You don’t need to worry about her; she’s perfectly fine.”
“Caroline.” Francis frowned.
“What? Did I say something wrong?”
Caroline pouted, her words dripping with dissatisfaction towards Sherilyn.
“Your girlfriend leaves while you’re injured and hospitalized. And what was her excuse? Oh, she had to go to work! Ha, what kind of job is so important that it comes before her own boyfriend?”
The more she spoke, the angrier she got, “And you’re asking about her? You’re all worried about her, but you’re the last thing on her mind!”
“Caroline!” Francis couldn’t bear it anymore and interrupted her sharply, “That’s enough.”
Hmph. Caroline didn’t even look at him, “As if holding back my words would change the truth.”
