CHAPTER 19
Chapter 19 The Dead won’t Ask Questions
What did Christopher mean?
He suspected I was having an affair before I got divorced?
He was indeed that kind of person.
I didn’t want to explain, so I calmly said, “One of my good friends.”
“What kind of friend?”
“Christopher.” I smiled and softly said, “The dead won’t ask questions.”
Since he was willing to play the role of a deceased ex, he should keep quiet.
Christopher almost laughed coldly, his tongue touching his cheek, sneering, “Fine.”
The car arrived at the cemetery. After I got out, I walked straight up the steps towards the hill.
Seeing he didn’t follow; I had to turn back and wait for him.
As I turned, I saw him holding a basket of yellow and white flowers, and I was surprised by when he prepared them.
I pursed my lips. “Thank you.”
“Thanks for what? It is what I should do, Christopher said softly.
When he caught up with long strides, we walked side by side towards my parents‘ tombstone.
It was better this way. Although we were just pretending to be harmonious, my parents should be able to rest assured. if they saw us like this.
The cemetery was tended to year–round, with only a little dust on the tombstone.

Honestly, even though my parents had been gone for so many years, I didn’t think of them often.
I wouldn’t cry all night under the covers like I did when I was a child.

But now, when I saw their tombstone, tears uncontrollably streamed down my face.
Christopher, usually aloof and cold, actually spoke to my parents. “Dad, Mom, I’m sorry. It’s only now that I’ve come with Hope to see you.”
Christopher’s voice was gentle and serious. In the end, he said, “I didn’t do well before, but I will learn to…” The rest of his words were deliberately lowered, and I couldn’t hear them.
‘It doesn’t matter.”

“We don’t have a future?
“Mom, Dad.” I touched their tombstone, tears flowing more and more. I had many things to say, but in the end, I just said, “I miss you so much.”
“I miss them so much. I miss being a child with a home.”
Since they left, I have yet to have a real home. I thought I would have a home after marrying Christopher, but it was just a fantasy.
I wiped the tears from my face, feeling very sad, but I still forced a smile.
“Mom, Dad, I’m pregnant, two months along! In a few months, the baby will be born. I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. Whatever, you must be happy, right? I’m happy, too. Mom, Dad, I finally have family again. I’ll treat him well with all the love you gave me. When the time comes, I’ll bring him to see you.”
I looked at the tombstone and said many more things in my heart. I wonder if they can hear. They say there’s a telepathic connection between loved ones, so they should be able to hear.
“Silly.”
Suddenly, a warm and deep voice sounded above my head. The next moment, I was embraced by a broad and solid chest. Christopher stroked my hair gently. “Why are you crying? Departed loved ones only wish for your well–being. As long as you’re doing well, they can rest in peace.”
I instinctively wanted to push him away, but at his words, I hesitated.Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Perhaps, on this matter, we still had some resonance.
He had lost his mother, too, even earlier than me.
Charlie’s attention was all on Brenda before, but theh he focused on having fun. He wasn’t a qualified father.
Otherwise, the Valence Group wouldn’t have been handed directly to Christopher.
I looked up at his sharp jawline and asked hesitantly, “And you? Are you doing well?”

“In the three years since we got married…” Christopher smiled faintly, sighed, and said, “I’m doing well. His answer made me want to cry even more.

It was regrettable.
Clearly, if it weren’t for those things, we could have been together forever.
On the way back, we both tacitly remained silent.
Some words are better left unsaid.
Christopher couldn’t truly change the situation, and I couldn’t accept it.
Chapter 19 The Dead won’t Ask Questions
We parted ways early while we still weren’t so annoying to each other.
The autumn days were short and nights long. Through the car window, his figure was bathed in a golden light from the setting sun.
When the car arrived at Riverside Garden, before I could speak, he said, “I’ll walk you upstairs.”
I didn’t refuse. We went upstairs together. Standing at the door, I pursed my lips. “I’m home. You can go back.”
“Okay.”
Christopher nodded lightly, but his steps didn’t move.
I ignored him. As I was about to enter the password, the door was pulled open from inside, revealing Elissa’s bright face. “You’re back! I heard some noise at the door. I thought it was the delivery.”
When I saw Elissa in my house, I relaxed.
I walked in and joked, You asked me to come back on an empty stomach just for takeout.”
“How could that be! Although I can’t cook, Cecil’s cooking is delicious!” Elissa glanced at Christopher and raised her voice, saying towards the kitchen, “Right? Cecil!”
I realized. “Cecil is here too?”
“Yes. You’ve moved to a new house. I thought of having them come to warm up your place. But I only invited Ivan and Cecil. You’re not very familiar with the others, so I didn’t invite them.”
I then noticed that my house had many new decorations and furnishings.
The atmosphere was cheerful. I felt a warmth in my heart, and I suddenly felt a sense of belonging to this house.
I didn’t notice the joy on Christopher’s face disappear in an instant, replaced by a coldness.
“Hope, you’re back?” Ivan, who had been helping Cecil in the kitchen, came out. When he saw Christopher outside, his playful expression turned into guilt.
Christopher put his hand in his pocket, looked at him with a fake smile.
Ivan coughed.
He no longer cared much and quickly ran over to explain, “Chris, I thought you were busy.”
“I’m not busy.”

“Then why don’t you join us in cel…? Ivan’s words were difficult. Christopher had been the person he had admired most since childhood, and Elissa was looking at him warningly.
I didn’t care. Christopher had missed all three of my birthdays in the past three years.
