What Separates Me and You

Chapter 342 My Wife

“Mr. Berg, it was an accident.”

Irritated, Conrad said, “I think you’re the real accident here. What an idiot!”

Conrad hung up the phone in anger.

He paced back and forth outside the hospital room but didn’t dare to go inside. He had messed up the situation and had no idea how to fix it.

Lewis had just finished his examination and returned to the room. His recovery was progressing well. The doctor mainly checked the recovery of his pleura.

When he returned, he saw Josephine sleeping on the sofa again.

This time, he didn’t wake her up. Instead, he took a cigarette and prepared to go out.

Right after he opened the door, he saw Conrad standing at the doorway, looking conflicted.

Conrad was startled to see Lewis coming out. “Chair-Chairman Alvarez.”

Lewis studied his face briefly before asking coldly, “Did our plan fail?”

Conrad wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. “Ye-yes. We couldn’t check Kiran’s condition, and

two of our men got caught..

He became increasingly hesitant as he spoke, his voice getting quieter.

He thought Lewis would explode in anger after hearing this. Lowering his head, he waited for

Lewis’ outburst.

However, after waiting for a while, Lewis remained silent. Instead, Conrad heard the sound of a

lighter.

Instinctively, he looked up.

Lewis leaned against the doorway, blowing out wisps of smoke. He calmly said, “It seems he’s

indeed severely injured.”

“What?”

Lewis chuckled. “Get ready. We’ll return to Elysium in the next couple of days.”

Conrad almost thought he was hallucinating. Was Lewis even listening to him?

Hence, Conrad cautiously said again, “T-two of our men got caught.”

Lewis glanced at him and lowered his gaze. “Mr. Berg, if you have problems with your ears, I suggest you find another job.”

Conrad was stunned. His lips trembled, and he quickly lowered his head. “I got it. I’ll make the arrangements right away.”

Conrad didn’t dare to ask further questions and hurriedly left the hospital to make preparations for their return to Elysium.

Lewis lit another cigarette and returned to the ward.

Conrad informed Seth that they would return to Elysium the day after tomorrow.

Seth didn’t say much. Although Lewis didn’t find anything useful during his time at Hardington, Seth hadn’t been idle either.

The most crucial lead had come to a dead end, and there was nothing more to investigate. Returning to Elysium and taking a break wasn’t a bad idea.

Meanwhile, the bodyguards brought the captured individuals back to Kiran’s ward for him to deal

with.

Kiran glanced at the two, his eyebrows slightly furrowed. He couldn’t even be bothered to ask who sent them. He only waved his hand and said, “Take them away.”

The bodyguard nodded and took the captured individuals away.

He knew that Lewis was testing him and trying to make him reveal himself. Even if the fight

didn’t break out, he would have shown up at least for a brief moment.

Now that he still didn’t appear, and with the arrival of Lewis’ men at his door, Kiran couldn’t help

but surmise that Lewis might have already guessed his situation.

He was bedridden, and that was highly disadvantageous for him.

Josephine and Lewis boarded the plane back to Elysium on the third day of the New Year.

Gerald tearfully bid them farewell at the airport. The chubby guy cried his heart out, asking Lewis to come again next time.

Although he had spent these days in fear, it was quite thrilling. He had never experienced such excitement before.

Lewis naturally ignored him and boarded the plane with Josephine.

As soon as Josephine sat down, she lifted her head and saw Sierra enter the boarding gate. She immediately became nervous.

Sierra paused in front of the two. Noticing that Lewis didn’t pay her any attention, she tactfully sat in the back.

She sat next to Seth.

Seth looked at her with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, making Sierra extremely uncomfortable. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Sierra took a blanket and covered herself, pretending to sleep.

Despite her longing to drift into slumber, sleep eluded her every time thoughts of Josephine and Lewis seated before her surfaced in her mind. She felt immensely frustrated.

Josephine was sitting in the seat that should have been rightfully hers. Josephine was also enjoying the love that should have been hers. It felt like a hundred ants were crawling in her

heart.

Anyone in her position would feel resentful.

Josephine nestled in Lewis’ arms and soon drifted off to sleep. She always had dreams when she slept. This time was no exception.

She dreamt of a cemetery where her parents emerged from their tombstones. Like Seth, they

whispered curses at her.

They said, “Josephine, you deserve to die. You really should die.”

Josephine was terrified by their grotesque appearance and abruptly opened her eyes.

She saw the white ceiling above her and heard the sound of rain outside the window.

“Oh, Mrs. Alvarez, you’re awake?”

Josephine turned her head and looked at Mrs. Larson’s smiling face. She was momentarily

stunned.

After coming to her senses, she slowly sat up from the bed and signed, “Who are you?”

Mrs. Larson’s smile instantly froze, and she replied, “Don’t you recognize me? I’m Mrs. Larson.”

Josephine tilted her head and studied Mrs. Larson’s face, still perplexed.

Mrs. Larson sighed in disappointment.

Josephine looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings and felt a bit scared. She asked, “Where is Lewis?”

Mrs. Larson replied, “Oh, Mr. Alvarez left after bringing you back. He should be back soon.”

Josephine lowered her gaze in disappointment and didn’t move any further.

Mrs. Larson asked Josephine if she was hungry, but Josephine shook her head.

The rain was pouring heavily outside. Although the room’s heating was on, it still felt somewhat chilly.

Josephine got off the bed and looked around, taking in her surroundings.

This place was unfamiliar to her. She had never been here before. Why did Lewis send her here?

Suddenly, a thought flashed across Josephine’s mind, and she signed, “Why did you call me Mrs. Alvarez?”

In her memory, this title belonged to Lewis’ wife.

“Well…” Mrs. Larson hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to respond. It had simply become a

habit for her to address her as such.

Lewis and Josephine were already divorced, so explaining that they were still a married couple

didn’t quite make sense.

Mrs. Larson gave up on explaining and retrieved a phone from her pocket before handing it to

Josephine. “By the way, Mr. Alvarez asked me to give you this phone. Keep it safe, and don’t lose it.

It was a new phone. Josephine unlocked it and looked at the contacts, finding only Lewis’ name.

She opened Whatsapp, and only his name appeared as well.

Moreover, Lewis had changed his phone number too. Since it was a new phone number, the

Whatsapp account must be brand new too.

However, it didn’t matter to Josephine. Even if she were given her old phone, she wouldn’t recognize those people anymore.

She nodded in response and opened Lewis’ profile picture.

It was a default system avatar, a silhouette of a person without any image.

She thought there might be an issue with her phone and repeatedly tapped on the picture, only to confirm that it was indeed the chosen avatar.

Disappointed, Josephine put the phone in her pocket before walking downstairs.

She felt somewhat out of place in this unfamiliar villa and couldn’t go anywhere with the heavy rain outside.

She could only follow Mrs. Larson’s suggestion and sat on the sofa, engrossed in watching cartoons.

As she was enjoying the show, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Mrs. Larson hurriedly went to answer it, but her face instantly fell when she saw the person outside.

“Why are you here again?”

“I came to check on Josephine. Hasn’t she returned yet? It’s already the third day of the new year. She should be back by now!”

“No, no. Mrs. Alvarez is not home yet. You should leave quickly.”

Upon hearing her name, Josephine instinctively set aside her bag of potato chips and walked towards the door.

At the entrance, she immediately recognized the young man in a white sweater, and he also noticed her.

“Josephine!” Quintin’s face brightened with joy, and he tried to rush inside, but Mrs. Larson blocked his way.

“Hey, you can’t come in!”

“I’m here to see my wife. Why can’t I come in? We’re legally married, and I’ll report you for illegal detention if you don’t step aside!”
