Chapter 50 Let’s bring it on Fanny
Ruby and Opula stood staring at the corpse of the security that was hit by the shooter, as the engine of the ambulance turned on and drove in blaring siren. They stared at the ambulance until it disappeared in the horizon. Ruby turned to his heartthrob, held her face and pecked her on the forehead, with tears trickling down his cheeks, realizing that some minutes ago Opula had escaped death by the whisker.
That bullet was actually coming for her- the shooter gave a shot at Ruby but by some random mistake it shifted to the next person standing by who was Opula. The security had masked Opula and he had taken her bullet in the neck, stretched out once and breathed his last. The rest of the security had cornered Ruby and Opula behind the private jet for a hide out, before the arrival of the police, who touched every nook and cranny in search of the shooter who had long disappeared.
The Lamborghini pulled up and the security opened the door for Ruby and Opoula who were drawn and tired now. Opula had been cold and drawn as the murder crazed her so much that the picture of the security convulsing to death still hung in her memory; even when Ruby pulled her by the hand to hop into the car, she held back glaring at the pool of blood that would have been hers but her bullet taker had spilled his blood in her place; she still wondered at the brief time she had seen him, how dedicated he had been in discharging his duties; the hope for a brighter future that hun on his shoulders and the resilience that stood in his eyes as fire.
Finally, she was able to put herself together and they drove home quietly, without locking eyes, stealing a glance or speaking with their eyes. The vanity of life troubled them so much that they threw their faces away from each other as they made home quietly.
As soon as they drove into the ocean view mansion which was secluded in the canopies of green vegetable beneath the steep falls of mountains. Opula was surprised to see that the mansion wasn’t the one she slept in the previous night and her consciousness woke up to study the home. she kept quiet, avoided the protocol of security opening door for her and opened it herself.
“Why are we here? What are we doing here?” she asked coldly and exhausted.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Ruby glared around and with his hands in his pocket, as he said, “this is my safe haven. Nobody on planet earth knows about this place of mine. I acquired it as my safe heaven if the world comes crashing I will be safe from the heat and enemy out there.” said Ruby and watched as she stared around suspiciously yet confidently, throwing her stare at the wonder and beauty of the safe haven before he held her hands and led her into the lift and up they went quietly.
She was still crazed by her drawn stare and fallen countenance, throwing her stare away from Ruby as the lift took them to the thirtieth floor. As the lift arrived at the thirtieth floor, and they made into the exquisite, gold varnished bedroom, quickly she located the bathroom, bent over the sink and threw up nosily and painfully. Ruby appeared at her side at once, opened the tap for her to wash her face. She raised her face, staring in the mirror as thought of the murder still possessed her; she had witnessed murders but she hadn’t witnessed murders of this kind; some fellow taking her bullet, making her measure what she would have looked like had the bullet sped into her neck.
“Did they come for you or they came for me?” she whispered her question in the faintest of voice, with her gaze still in the mirror.
Ruby knew it was fanny; he could swear on his life that Fanny sent the shooter to take his life, and not Opula’s – he wondered if he was going to open up to her about the game , and Fanny staying at stone throw and not any Japan. But how would she feel if she got to know she had been the prize of a game, a nasty, dirty game; for he knew pointing a finger at Fanny right now wouldn’t hold water since she believed he was still in Japan unaware of their romance andwhat was going on in their lives now.
“My business opponent came for me,” he replied her. “They are out to take my life so that they would have enough sky to fly and spread their wings.” he added.
“Have you been stepping on people’s toes in the course of your business? Some minutes ago either of us had no right to life. If you have anybody you have mistreated you had rather invited the fella and resolve your indifferences,” she said coldly, and feared greatly for her life.
Ruby kept answering her in his head; Fanny was the fella; the romance enemy and not business like he said. Now he saw what Fanny was out for. His gaze came on their large frame picture on the wall opposite the bathroom. The four of them had the picture the day they started partnering with Ziu Lee, and like a flash his memory became fresh as he recalled vividly what happened hours after they had the picture; he had caught Fanny raping a girl he was dating at the time, in the closet, and strangling her after much struggle. He watched and followed Fanny as he carried the corpse of the girl and buried her in the lake down the road. He had taken photo shots of it and saved it on his laptop in the office.
He smiled and grinned wickedly. “Let’s bring it on Fanny,” he said in his head, as he watched Opula undress herself and wash up in the mini pool.
