Chapter 260
“Alright, everyone starts chowing down! Aiden and Alex will be down any second.”
Sophia let it go and picked up her cup again.
Emmett wanted to say something, but Clara subtly tugged at his sleeve, hinting at him to zip it.
Shortly, Aiden and Alex came down.
So, the dinner ended with everyone fussing over the kids. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
On their way to work, Clara was engrossed in the documents in her hand, as if she wasn’t the one who just got blasted.”
The one who was antsy and disgruntled was actually Emmett.
“This won’t do if my mom keeps this up; it’ll mess up our relationship.”
Clara glanced at him and suddenly burst into laughter, “You’re talking all deep and stuff… Nothing’s going to rock our boat.”
“If this keeps up, my mom’s behavior is going to go off the rails.”
Emmett knew his mom’s nature all too well.
From the looks of it, despite his and his dad’s repeated warnings, his mom showed no signs of backing down! It seems like things are only going to go downhill from here.
“Oh, come on, don’t let this get under your skin! I admit, whenever I get a scolding, I feel down in the dumps, but I’ve never held it against you! And I won’t let this mess with my mind!” Clara waved the
blueprints in her hand, “I’m swamped right now; I don’t have time for this. I just hope my designs can rake in more dough for the Melendez Group! I can’t be bothered with family drama.”
Emmett frowned at her, “Are you really not bothered, or do you have some kind of game plan? I feel like you don’t really care about me, so you don’t care what my mom says about you.”
Clara shook her head, “If I let this get to me, it’ll only sour the atmosphere at home! I want the kids to grow up in a happy family. What would they think if they came home to see me and their grandma bickering?”
“I always feel you’re so easygoing because you don’t really care about me.”
Clara fell silent momentarily, took a deep breath, and voluntarily placed her hand in his, “We’ve come this far… Do you think I don’t care about you enough?”
“Not enough.”
“Emmett, when did you become so insecure?” Clara arched an eyebrow, “I remember you being a proud man who would never let anyone get to him.”
“You’re different; you’re my wife.”
She was the only woman Emmett had ever loved.
Emmett’s sudden declaration of love always left Clara a bit flustered.
“I’ve said so much about my mom, but you’re acting like it’s no big deal.”
Clara shrugged, “I just think it’s not worth stirring up awkwardness over this! Your mom’s just looking out for you She wouldn’t really lay
a hand on me, right? So why should I nitpick and even tell you about it to upset you?”
Emmett waved his hand, “Forget it; I can’t convince you.”
“I know you’re just looking out for me, thinking for me.” Clara leaned into him playfully, “Don’t worry, I’m a grown-up; I know what I should and shouldn’t do! We should try to understand and tolerate our elders!”
