Chapter 109
Chapter 109
Brett didn't have a smoking habit. He took a couple of puffs and put out the fire with his fingers. His fingertips got scorched, but he didn't notice it.
In fact, he had thought about this outcome beforehand, but he never dared to think that the innocent and kind Kaley would be blinded by jealousy and commit such an act.
Moreover, she did it twice in one day.
When the truth surfaced, Brett found it even harder to accept. This proved Izabella's innocence, but he didn't know how to face her afterwards, or how to face their first child who had died by his hand.
Brett looked at his right hand, turning it over and over. There was nothing there, but he saw a blood- stained hand. Why was he so violent and harsh to Izabella?
Although he found out what Kaley had done, Brett won't do anything to her. He owed Kaley for their childhood relationship and she had saved his life at the risk of her own.
Six years ago, he had vowed to take good care of her. If it weren't for the car accident that forced him to marry Izabella, he might have already been with Kaley.
Now, with the Salotti family bankrupt, Izabella could no longer threaten him, but he couldn't divorce her. Just thinking about Izabella leaving him and being with someone else in the future made him uncomfortable. He couldn't even bear the thought.
Brett found himself in a dilemma and he regretted finding out the truth.
By the time Brett got back, Izabella had woken up. She had just had surgery and couldn't get up, so she had to stay in bed. Eating and drinking required someone else to spoon-feed her.
Every day, someone would push a cart around the hospital selling food and soup, and the nurse took the liberty to order some, charging it to Izabella's account.
"Ms. Salotti, you should drink some water first." The nurse tested the temperature and carefully spooned the water to Izabella's mouth. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
Izabella was awake, but her eyes were empty, which was unsettling to see.
When the nurse fed her water and soup, she just opened her mouth, like a machine following instructions, swallowing stiffly.
There wasn't much soup in a bowl, but the nurse didn't want to feed her too much and put it down after a few bites.
The nurse used a clean handkerchief, dampened with warm water, to carefully wipe her face, avoiding the wounds to clean her neck and hands.
Brett stood outside watching, his heart throbbing painfully. When the nurse came out to throw out the trash, he instinctively hid.
He pushed the door open, and the nurse saw it was him but didn't pay him any attention, wondering to herself why he hadn't left yet.
"I'll take care of her."
The nurse shook her head, "I can't trust you alone. If anything happens, Dr. Amelia will blame me."
There was nothing to be unsure about, but thinking of Izabella's state before and after, he chose to keep quiet.
Brett was Izabella's husband in name and a direct relative. The hospital could not drive him away and could only verbally remind him not to stimulate Izabella again. Brett promised.
The private room was quite large, with a separate bathroom and shower, a bed for accompanying family, and a bedside chair that could also be used for sleeping.
The nurse was on duty tonight, and she couldn't watch Izabella all the time, so Brett spent most of the time with Izabella.
Izabella's face had no extra expression, stiff as if she were dead. Brett couldn't help but look at her. Although this woman was right in front of him, he couldn't feel her existence. It was as if she would vanish into thin air at the slightest touch.
Brett stood by the bed, looking at the moon outside, feeling as if something had deviated from its original orbit.
