Chapter 0320
Knox POV
"Which way now?" I asked as we approached a fork in the tunnel. I struggled to keep my voice steady, fighting the urge to confront my father then and there. Every instinct screamed that he was up to something, but I couldn't let my anger cloud my judgement. At least Chase seemed to sense it, too-the silent understanding between us was the only thing keeping me grounded.
"I... I'm not sure." Leigh hesitated. Chase stepped forward, his eyes narrowing as he lifted his head slightly, nostrils flaring as he took in the scents around us.
"There's a scent this way," he indicated to the left path. He pointed down the left tunnel. "It's faint, but it's Lottie," he said, his voice low and certain.
"Then that's where we go," I decided. As we moved down the left tunnel, the air grew warmer, and the scent of smoke reached us. Adam and Chase led the way, their movements swift and purposeful. Behind me, I heard Kane drop back to walk alongside Liam, their whispered conversations barely audible over our footsteps. I didn't bother to listen; whatever they were discussing, I trusted that Kane wasn't plotting against me. Despite our strained relationship, I wanted to believe in my brother.
"Something's not right," Chase warned. He halted abruptly, tension etched into every line of his face. His eyes darted around, and his jaw tightened. "Do you feel that?" he asked with a hint of urgency in his tone.
We emerged into a larger chamber, illuminated by flickering torches. Standing in the centre was Sebastian, a smug grin on his face.
"Welcome," he drawled. "I've been expecting you." He looked immaculate every hair in place, clothes pristine, as if he'd just stepped off a movie set rather than lurking in these dank tunnels. The contrast was jarring, his polished appearance mocking the seriousness of the situation.
"Sebastian." My blood ran cold. So Chase had been right-it wasn't our father behind this after all. A part of me felt a twisted sense of relief, but disappointment gnawed at me. I had hoped, despite everything, that Leigh wasn't involved. Now, facing Sebastian, rage and betrayal swirled within me.
"So predictable." He clapped his hands slowly.
"Where is she?" Chase stepped forward, rage evident. His fists clenched at his sides, eyes blazing with fury. The usually composed demeanour was gone, replaced by raw emotion.
"Who?" Sebastian tilted his head. His mocking tone dripped with false innocence, a sly smile playing on his lips. "You'll have to be more specific," he grinned, feigning ignorance.
"Don't play games," I snapped. Havoc snarled within me, clawing to be set free. The urge to let him loose, to let him rip Sebastian apart limb from limb, was almost overpowering. My vision tinged with red as I struggled to maintain control.
"Oh, you mean Lottie? She's... occupied." He chuckled. The sound grated on my nerves, smug and self-assured. He was enjoying this, taunting us.
"You're working with Astaroth." Chase's eyes darkened as he spat the accusation out.
"Everyone has their alliances." Sebastian shrugged dismissively. "It's nothing personal," he added casually, as if betraying us was just another day's work.
"Sebastian, this isn't the way." Leigh moved beside us. His voice wavered slightly, and he glanced nervously between us and Sebastian. There was a hint of desperation in his eyes, a silent plea that I couldn't quite decipher.
"Leigh, you, of all people, should understand." Sebastian raised an eyebrow, confusion evident on his face. He looked genuinely puzzled, as if expecting Leigh to side with him. "I thought we were on the same page," he said, his gaze locking onto my father's. "You knew about this?" I accused our father as I looked between them.
"No, I swear." Leigh shook his head vehemently, but his eyes avoided mine, and his tone lacked conviction. The doubt gnawed at me was he lying again?
"Enough talk," Sebastian conveyed.
"I'm afraid I can't let you go any further." From the shadows, figures emerged-Sebastian's followers, armed and ready to silence my questions about my despicable
father. Some were in wolf form net
muscles rippling beneath their fur, fangs bared and eyes glowing with predatory intent. Others remained in
human form, brandishing weapons that gleamed menacingly in the dim light. They encircled us, weapons drawn, eyes gleaming with
malicious intent. The air grew thick with the promise of violence.
"Get ready," Chase murmured, drawing his weapon. Like that was what we needed right now, his weapon was powerless against the hide of a wolf.noveldrama
"We can't take them," Kane whispered, eyeing the growing crowd.
"Not in this form," I nodded, a fierce determination in my eyes. "But in wolf form... maybe... For Lottie."
"For Lottie," Kane echoed as we began to transform. The air filled with the sound of bones cracking and muscles shifting. Fur sprouted along limbs, eyes glowed with primal energy, and claws extended. Beside me, Kane's wolf form emerged-a powerful, sleek creature ready for battle. I let Havoc take over, my body contorting into a massive black hellhound, flames licking at my paws.
"Well, that's new." I mused to Havoc, who chuckled into my mind.
"I have many tricks, silly wolf." He replied excitedly as All around us, our allies, transformed, except for Chase, who remained in human form, weapon at the ready.
As the first attacker lunged, we met them head-on, driven by a singular purpose-to save the woman we all cared for.
The tunnel erupted into chaos. Teeth
and claws clashed, and snarls filled the confined space. I dodged a swing from one of Sebastian's men, countering with a swift strike to his side. He fell back, giving me a moment to glance at Kane, who was holding his own against two opponents.
"Behind you!" Kane cried through mindlink. I spun just in time to block an incoming blow. The force sent a jolt up my spine, but I gritted my teeth and pushed back. The attacker stumbled, and I didn't hesitate delivering a decisive hit that knocked him out cold. A sudden, searing pain tore through my side. I barely had time to register the glint of silver before a blade plunged between my ribs. A sharp gasp escaped me as the world seemed to slow down. Hot blood seeped around the weapon, staining my fur a dark crimson. "Knox!" Kane's panicked voice echoed in my mind.
My legs faltered, the strength draining from them as the agony intensified. I tried to stay upright, but my body betrayed me, collapsing onto the cold, unforgiving ground. The taste of iron filled my mouth, each ragged breath sending shards of pain through my chest. Through blurred vision, I saw Sebastian standing over me, a twisted smile of triumph on his face.
"Looks like even hellhounds can bleed," he sneered.
