Chapter Twenty
Alpha Matteo
I stood on the balcony outside my room, gazing at the sky with my hands resting on the rail. As the day went on, things got more tense and worse. The bloodshed is now becoming too much. I looked at the moon’s reflection in the sky, hoping that the moon goddess could hear me.
The whole situation is really taking a toll on me, and I’m slowly getting old. Even though I might still be the strongest and bravest Alpha and also among the strongest in the supernatural realm but I know deep down….. Deep down, I know I might not be a match for Alessandro anymore.
It’s like the weight of the world is on my shoulders, and each day feels like a battle. I can feel the years catching up with me, and it’s a tough pill to swallow. I am getting old, werewolves are not immortal. We bond in aging but the reverse is the case for vampires. Those creatures can live for five hundred years or million years and are still long, younger, and ageless. And Alessandro has lived for thousands of years, the oldest vampire that has ever lived and still living with his strength unmatched. It’s like time stands still for them, while I can feel every year weighing on me.
Due to the ageless battles that have been raging since even before my birth, all because of superiority, it’s been tough for the supernatural realm to have an older species, especially when it comes to our kind and those bloodsuckers. But Alessandro has once again proved us wrong. He remains strong and ruthless, defying time for thousands of years now. It’s like he’s a force of nature that just won’t be tamed.
His power seemed unmatched, and my fear was that I had only been the first person to challenge him and come out alive. I have seen him on the battlefield constantly, so I know how deadly, poisonous, and brutal that beast is. That’s why when I see Vincenzo, I get scared. Scared of leaving him to face that beast, scared of knowing that after me, he was the next Alpha in line, and obviously that beast would come for him. I am afraid of what the outcome might be.
“Alessandro….”
I hissed, shaking my head as my grip tightened around the rails. The war has aged for centuries, and I am already tired of its constant repetition. My kind is hidden, and we have been hidden for years, which I am already tired of. We need freedom… We need freedom, though not just us, but the whole realm needs freedom!!
However, judging from what went down at that party that very day, the unexpected invasion, I know that it’s also his work. Hmmm… I smiled, recalling that I saw one of his subordinates, Marcus, that very day. It’s like he’s always one step ahead, pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
They came for me, I know they did that to get my reaction. And Alessandro, I know, already has plans in the palm of his hands while waiting for my reaction. I know any slightest move will trigger them, and I am already old and no longer strong enough to withstand him. He hates me, he sees me as the only barrier to achieving his goal, which is nothing but just the power. The hunger to rule the whole supernatural realm.Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Please, Selena, mother of good heart, the all-seeing eye of the night as you drive your moon chariot across the sky every night, please hear your children’s agonizing cry for help and intercede on our behalf by finding a way to put an end to this ancient war,” closing my eyes, I mumbled a short prayer to the moon goddess, hoping that she hears me out.
Clearing my throat, I walked inside, striding into the room. And then my gaze darted to the bed, and I noticed that Elena, my wife, who is also my Luna, was still sleeping soundly. Looking at her, a smile curled up my face, brightening my mood a bit. Just like the meaning of her name, she brought happiness into my life, but remembering the danger at hand, pain clutched through me, gripping my heart tightly. It felt like a battle between the joy of the moment and the weight of the looming threat.
Their safety and that of everyone in my pack is not assured at this very moment. Sighing I traced my fingers on her cheeks, my eyes watered as I watched her relax under my touch. The fear of losing her or anyone from my pack again grips me. I don’t know if I could make it alive from any decision that I am about to make tonight, and I am also scared of not seeing her again.
She’s already stressed out with this whole drama, and I didn’t want to bother her anymore, so I let her sleep. I gave her a peck on the forehead before walking away from the room down to my study. Vincenzo is my son, but I’m afraid that he’s not strong enough to face Alessandro. And yes… I’m afraid because I don’t think he would be able to rule my people well in my absence, though I just couldn’t do anything. The position is his birthright and won’t be denied from him. That’s why I needed to find a way to end this war so that I could pave the way and make it a smooth ride for him.
Entering my study, I groaned as I plopped on the chair there. “Beta Aldo… please, I need your presence, that of the gamma, and elders at the meeting hall at this moment,” I mind-linked my beta.
“Matteo, is everything alright? It’s still night,” he replied quickly, yawning as he still sounded drowsy.
Seems like I woke him up from sleep, “There’s something urgent we need to discuss,” I said, sighing while going through the pile of files on my desk.
“So urgent that it can’t wait until morning,” he said, sounding tired.
I need you all there now,” I shrieked, maintaining my Alpha tone. The urgency of the situation weighed heavily on my shoulders.
“On that, Alpha,” he said immediately as I heard him through the mind link, getting off the bed.
I sighed and cut the link, feeling the weight of the decision. Leaning back on my chair, I closed the files and stared straight at the empty air. The gravity of the choice I was about to make hung heavy in the room. I knew that whatever decision I made tonight would shape the future of my kind and that of the other realms, for better or for worse. Despite the uncertainty, I needed to make that decision, all the while hoping it would be worthwhile.
