Kingsley tapped his fingers softly on the arm of the couch. He said impassively, "That's the only thing you're right about. Nicholas would never be tied down by marriage." Then, he narrowed his eyes slightly. Just what on earth is Nicholas up to? Could he have proposed to Mia because he's coming after me?
Ysabel rolled her eyes, though. "Reene could've married a perfect husband as well! It's all your fault, you little b*stard! I'm gonna kill you sooner or later!"
Elijah said timidly as he looked on, "Okay, that's enough. Just keep your voice down. Now that Clarence's family has got another deep-pocketed son-in-law, you'd better not set yourself against them anymore!"
"Oh, what a miserable life I'm living! My husband is a good-for-nothing, and my daughter won't listen to me either!" Ysabel lamented while slapping her thigh. Then, she continued, "Also, there's a son of a b*tch who's keeping me from getting a rich son-in-law! Oh…"
Just when she was making a scene, Mia recovered from her excitement and walked up to them. Holding her chin up in triumph, she said smugly, "Aunt Ysabel, it's useless no matter how much you cry now. I'll be the daughter-in-law of the Fox Family very soon! Reene, the lowly servant, will be trampled under my foot forever!"
Ysabel's face turned livid at Mia's words, but she dared not make a retort. She didn't have the nerve to make a scene in front of Nicholas, who was standing right next to Mia.
Mia then looked at Reene with her hands on her hips. "Reene, aren't you a bad*ss? Aren't you some female entrepreneur? Haha! Challenge me again and see how I'm gonna squash your ugly face underfoot!"
Reene replied icily, "Congratulations to you on finding happiness, but you'd better keep your eyes open and not let someone fool you."
"Me being fooled? Ha!" Mia replied with a sneer. "I think you're just envious of me for becoming the daughter-in-law of the Fox Family while you could only let this little b*stard live off you, you old spinster!"
At this moment, Clarence hurriedly stepped forward and yelled at Reene, "Reene, now that we're in- laws with the Prime Corporation, you'd better hurry and give the Clark Corporation back to us! Otherwise, you'll not only have your reputation destroyed! You'll be setting yourself against the whole Roseland Chamber of Commerce as well!"
"Why should I give the Clark Corporation back to you? It was you who willingly signed the paper and transferred your ownership of it to me!" Reene suddenly rose to her feet. She said, "Let's go, Kingsley. Seems like we're gonna walk out of here without a deal today!" She felt attached to Elijah and Ysabel because she wanted to make up for her regret of missing her parents. However, she had no feelings left for Clarence and others. Since they weren't treating her as part of the family, why did she have to suck up to them?
Much to her surprise, however, Kingsley took her hand and made her sit back down on the couch. "Reene, there's no hurry to leave. The drama isn't over yet."
Reene knitted her fine eyebrows. "Kingsley, what are you trying to do? Now that the Fox Family has stepped in, it seems that this can no longer be solved through negotiations."
Kingsley curled his lips into a smile. "Don't worry, Reene. Everything's under my control," he said before looking up at Nicholas. "Now that you've proposed to Mia, are you two gonna have an engagement party in the next few days?"
Nicholas looked baffled. "Y-Yeah. I'm gonna have it arranged right away so that Mia and I can hold our engagement party the day after tomorrow!"
Delighted by his words, Clarence immediately suggested, "Young Master Nicholas, I think the Emerald Hotel would be a nice place to hold your engagement party! It's one of the top three hotels in Cleapolis, so an engagement party there is definitely going to be a splendid affair!"
"Emerald Hotel, huh…" Nicholas hesitated for a moment. Then, he gritted his teeth, saying, "Okay! We'll hold our engagement party there!"
Whoa! His words sent the whole living room of the Wynn Manor into an uproar. Everyone exclaimed in shock, "Oh, my God! The Emerald Hotel! Did we hear that right? They say even the cheapest banquet there costs 15,000 per table!"
