Chapter 23
“You love… me?” He asked unbelievably and gestured by hitting himself across the chest.
“Of course I do. I love you,” I repeated.
“You truly love me?”
“Yes, I love Jason Stokes, my arrogant but childish CEO.”
He picked me up instantly, started circling with a wide smile splattered on his face, and put me back down after the sixth round.
He put his mouth on mine the moment my foot touched the ground and said, “I love you too,” into my mouth.
He stopped kissing me after some seconds and rushed out of my office into the hallway. I followed him and wondered what was going on.
“Lexi Tyler is my girlfriend! I’m her boyfriend!” He screamed
People started rushing out of their offices to see what was going on in the hallway.

I was ashamed of his childish behavior, but there was nothing I could do but smile when everyone was smiling and waving at me.
He moved to where I was standing, and before I knew what was happening, he was already kissing me in front of everyone.
I heard screams, whoas, and claps. And I was sure that I was as red as a tomato by the time he was through with me.
“Lexi Tyler is my girlfriend,” he said once more while raising my hand before motioning me back to my office.
I heard people saying ‘congratulations’ as we were heading back to my office, but I couldn’t say a thing because I still couldn’t believe what Jason just did.
“What was that all about?” I asked when I was sure that we were alone.
“I was claiming you as mine, marking my territory. No man shall come near Lexi Tyler because she belongs to me.”
“I’m not a thing.”
“Of course, you’re not a thing; you’re someone, and you belong to me and me alone. I’m the happiest man on Earth today,” he pulled off his suit and started fanning himself with it. “This weather is too hot.”
“I don’t think so because I’m not feeling it.”
“Of course you can’t. Only men do so. Only men can feel this type of heat. We’re supposed to celebrate this if you didn’t have anything planned for tonight.”
“But I have, so we will be celebrating it later.”
“Can’t you just change your mind?” he said frustratedly. “Why are you always proving stubborn?”
“Because I have a friend who will be waiting for me at the club.”
“Ok then,” he said submissively, “let me get my car key and give you a ride to your house.”
“No need; I can manage.”
“Don’t be like this, Lexi; you’re my girlfriend, for God’s sake. I will be back in a few”

I stopped him at a pharmacy.
“Why are we stopping?” He asked inquisitively.
“Judith told me to get her something.” I lied.
He lost his seatbelt and was about to open the door when I stopped him.
“It’s not compulsory that you come with me; let me just get it. I will be back soon.” I shifted to him and pecked him on the cheek.
“Okay. I’m waiting”
“I will soon be back,” I said as I headed out of the car.
I got the pregnancy test and carefully hid it inside my purse before heading out of the pharmacy.
“You’re done”
“Yeah, thank you.”
“Anything for my girlfriend.”

‘Congrat girl, I heard what happened this afternoon, I’m so happy for you’ Stephanie texted me on my way to the club.
Of course, she wouldn’t have known about it because she was on the third floor while I was on the fourth.
‘Thank you’ I texted back.
I got out of the taxi, entered the club, and spotted Cynthia at our usual table. Cynthia’s face brightened up when she saw me, and she got out of her seat in order to give me a hug.
“Lexi, sweetheart, I’m so happy for you,” she shouted over the music.
“Thank you!” I shouted back.
We both ordered Bailey’s matini and started our girls night.
Two hours later
I was feeling pressed in my bladder, so, I excused myself to use the restroom. After using the restroom, I stood in front of the mirror to reapplied my lipstick when a huge manly woman came in. At first, I wasn’t bother but I became scared when she stood at my back and kept staring at my reflection in the mirror.
I summoned all the courage in me and faced her “how may I help you?” I asked and the next thing I knew was that my back hit a wall and a knife was placed on my neck.
My eyes became widen with terror instantly and I started inhaling heavily
“Stay away from Jason. He is mine. I knew what happened in the office today and I’m not going to be this nice the next time we meet” she threatened
She took the knife away from my neck, placed it back inside her pocket and left the restroom the same way she came in.
I breathe in air heavily until my heart beat came back to normal, puked inside the zinc and splashed some water on my face before leaving the restroom.
“What took you so long?” Cynthia asked when I was back on my seat “and why are you this pale?”
“Nothing” I replied
“Jason arrived some minutes ago” Cynthia said “He left to get drinks for himself and his friend”
“Jason” I thought “what if that woman is still watching me”
“Lexi!” Cynthia called
“Jason and his friend are here?” I asked
“Of course. Can’t you see the guy sitting next to you”
“Guy… sitting next to me” I looked at my left side and saw an extremely beautiful man smiling at me.
“Hi, I’m John, I’ve heard a lot about you” the beautiful man said while stretching out his hand for an handshake
“Hi, I’m Lexi. Nice meeting you” I took his hand
“Nice meeting you too”
“Are you sure you are okay?” Cynthia asked
“Of… of course, I am” I stammered “where is Jason?”
“He is almost here” John replied
Jason dropped their drinks on the table and wrapped his hands around my neck from the back
“Baby, I’m sorry if I spoil your night. I’m not just okay without you by my side” Jason whispered into my ears, pecked me and took the seat by my right.
“This is John, my closest friend” Jason said
“I’ve met him” I replied while scanning the club for the woman
“Lexi!” Cynthia called and gave me the look which meant ‘what is it?’ and I shook my head in response
“Can we leave now?” I whispered into Jason’s ears
He put down his drink the moment he heard this and gave me an intensed look
“Is it because I came here?” He sadly asked
“No, it has nothing to do with you; I just want to leave.”
“Baby, is something wrong?”
“No, let’s just leave,” I said harder.
“You’re scaring me. Is something wrong?”
“Let’s leave first,” I said, got out of my seat, and staggered.
“Watch out,” Jason said.
I turned around and faced Cynthia.
“We’re leaving,” I said.
“Why?” Cynthia asked worriedly.
“Nothing,” I replied.
“Please, can I talk to her for a minute?” Cynthia said to Jason.
“Yes sure”
Cynthia drew me away from their side and asked, “Are you sure everything is alright?”
“Yes”
“I don’t think so; I know you. You’ve been acting strange since you came back from the restroom. Is there something I need to know?”
“It’s nothing, Cynthia; I’m not just feeling fine.”
“Ok, then, we’re going to talk later.”
“Alright, bye”
