The Apple of My Eye

Chapter 1799 An Encounter

Chapter 1799 An Encounter

Success Company was a big group which had cooperated with Cloud Advertising Company for years.

Even so, Jeff seldom saw Sheryl alone at any social gatherings before. Most of the time, she came with

her husband, Charles. Today, Jeff was surprised to find that they had arrived separately. He couldn't

help but think of the recent rumors he had heard about this couple.

Being both beautiful and elegant, Sheryl could attract any man, including Jeff. He was glad that he had

a chance to get close to her, and he would do anything to please her tonight.

Hearing Jeff's introduction, Sheryl realized that he was the man who had sent the air ticket and

invitation to Isla.

That thought removed any suspicions she initially had of Jeff. After all, he was one of their company's

major clients, and Sheryl needed to be polite and cordial.

As Sheryl started to make casual conversation with Jeff, she realized that he was not as bad as he

looked. He never asked anything about her personal life, but rather focused on their business. He was

totally different from other men who coveted her beauty, which she found really impressive.

Noticing Sheryl's presence when she saw her talking with the guests, Leila's heart skipped a beat.

Feeling threatened, she immediately took Charles' arm.

Since Sheryl's arrival had caused a commotion among the male guests, Charles' attention was also

drawn in her direction. Looking towards the crowd, Charles saw Sheryl as well as the men surrounding

her.

Charles' face clouded. Seeing Sheryl in a beautiful evening dress and flaunting her fair and bare skin,

he felt even more sullen.

Clenching his fists, Charles was ready to approach Sheryl immediately.

Seeing Charles' expression, Leila figured out what Charles wanted to do. Not allowing Charles to leave

her for another woman, she grabbed his arm before he could take a step.

"Charles, it's a bit windy today. I think the cold breeze makes me feel dizzy," Leila commented in a

charming way.

Ignoring her statement, Charles told her coldly, "Stay here. I need to talk to Sheryl." Charles was

absolutely irritated. If they weren't in a public place, he would have lost his temper already.

"Sher is talking with Jeff. It's inappropriate if you go there and interrupt them," Leila said. Leila tightened

her grasp on Charles, not intending to let him go.

"Get your hands off me!" Charles stated sullenly. Waving his hand, Charles tried to shake off Leila's

grasp.

However, Leila wouldn't give up so easily. She would do whatever she could to stop Charles from

meeting Sheryl personally. Melissa had prepared this event for her and Charles, so she would never

allow Sheryl to spoil everything.

"Charles..." Leila held onto Charles' arm again, unwilling to let him go.

Charles was a man, after all. If he had really wanted to, he could easily have thrown Leila to the floor

without any effort.

But Charles didn't want to waste any more time. Creasing his eyebrows, he pushed Leila aside. Taking

her chance, Leila immediately pretended to fall down.

"Aargh!" As Charles was stepping away from Leila, he heard her painful scream behind him.

Looking back, he saw Leila down on the floor.

Her eyebrows were knitted as if suffering from great pain. Leila looked at Charles with complaining

eyes. She pressed her ankle with one hand, while another hand was on the floor, supporting her body

from lying down.

Tears were already welling up from her eyes. Leila tried to control herself from crying out loud. Distress

clouded her beautiful face; while, her body quivered in pain.

Charles frowned, seeing Leila had been hurt. Glancing back at Sheryl, who was not that far away, he

hesitated for a moment, before he came back to help Leila get up. A heavy sigh escaped his lips.

Leila gloated over her triumph. She knew that Charles was a gentleman and wouldn't ignore her under

her feigned condition. She took Charles' arm again like they were a real couple, hoping that he could

walk her all the way.

After helping Leila up, he shook her hand from him. However, she seemed to look so unsteady, like she

would fall again without his support. Having no other choice, Charles took her arm.

Once Leila was stabilized, Charles turned towards Sheryl immediately. She was still busy talking with

Jeff.

Noticing Charles' gaze on Sheryl, Leila felt completely jealous. Who wouldn't be? Even though Charles

was with her, his attention was on Sheryl all this time.

'Damn it! Sheryl, you're such a bitch! This was supposed to be a wonderful night for me and Charles.

Why did you have to ruin it?' Leila cursed silently, hate burning in her eyes.

At the thought of it, Leila clenched her fists. She really wanted Sheryl to die there and then, saving her

all these troubles. She knew that if she hadn't hurt her ankle on purpose, Charles might have come to

Sheryl already. She would then be left empty-handed and a big failure.

Charles didn't feel good either. It appeared that Sheryl didn't even notice his presence at all. She was

enjoying herself right now, talking with a few men, with a big smile on her face. Even though he was

displeased with Sheryl, he couldn't do anything because he was stuck in taking care of Leila first.

"How are you now? Can you walk by yourself?" Charles asked impatiently. Before Leila could answer,

he already walked her inside.

"I'm fine, Charles. Thank you so much," Leila answered gently. Hiding her jealous expression, Leila

leaned on Charles' arm sweetly, hoping to grasp him in case he decide to leave her for Sheryl again.

Charles didn't oppose to her intimate behavior, making Leila feel triumphant. Soon they went to the

lower deck together.

Meanwhile, Sheryl had finished talking with Jeff. She was supposed to take a seat and have some

snacks; however, a few men soon approached her.

"Hello, Miss. I don't think I've seen you before. Are you Malaysian?" a man asked.

"You look Chinese. I'm Chinese too. My name is Patton Liu, nice to meet you," another man said.

Showing great interest in her, these men started to surround her. Sheryl was startled by them. She was

afraid that if they weren't in a public place, they might do something more offensive to her.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Sheryl Xia of Cloud Advertising Company," Sheryl still managed to answer Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

politely but distantly, trying to control her anger.

Sheryl attempted to leave them several times, but they kept talking to her, with no intention to let her

go.

Finally, Sheryl thought of an excuse she could use to bail out. Stepping back, she smiled and said,

"Sorry, gentlemen, I need to use the toilet now. Please, excuse me."

Luckily, a woman passed by at the same time. Sheryl grabbed the chance and took the woman's arm

like they were good friends.

After seeing that, the men stopped harassing her and started to walk away.

"I'm so sorry," she said, smiling apologetically to the woman. Sheryl loosened her grasp on her arm

after the men left.

"Are you Chinese?" the woman asked Sheryl. She looked elegant and sophisticated.

Sheryl nodded slightly. Reaching out to shake hands with her, she introduced herself, "I'm Sheryl."

"Anne," the woman replied.

Finally, relieved after getting rid of those impolite guys, Sheryl stayed and talked with Anne. The more

they talked, the more she liked this short-haired girl.

"Anne!"

a man called out to Anne from behind while they were happily chatting.

Anne turned to see who it was and then told Sheryl, "Sheryl, I need to leave for a while. I'll come over

later."

"No problem." Sheryl smiled.

After Anne left, Sheryl heaved a sigh of relief. She didn't expect that this ball would be so boring. She

had only been here for an hour, but it felt long enough for her already. She couldn't wait until it was

over. Feeling a bit tired herself, she decided to go to the lower deck to retouch her make-up in the

ladies' room.

Meanwhile, on the lower deck of the yacht.

Leila softly rested herself on Charles' arms as if she didn't have any strength left.

As a matter of fact, she was currently on cloud nine. She didn't mind if anyone saw them or not. Leila

felt like the happiest woman in the world. She wouldn't ask for anything else if she could stay with

Charles in this moment.
