Without fail
Zane’s POV
As soon as Harry started walking away, I growled. He turned back, confusion written all over his face, like someone who thinks he has heard something but is not sure. One glare towards him and he was hurrying away from me. I threw the door to Maya’s office and walked inside, passing by Kim’s desk. I opened Maya’s door and a sweet scent made its way to my nose. The blood in my body immediately warmed up and I felt a certain part of me hardening and starting to strain my pants.
Her scent was enough to give me an orgasm. I spotted a white handkerchief on the table and picked it up, then pressed it against my nose. It smelled so good I started sniffing more. I stuffed the handkerchief into my pocket and walked out there before I did something crazy. I could not take it anymore. I needed that woman. Ignoring her the way I had done may not have been the best approach. When I was in my office, I thought it would make her think about me more, but now I realised it was stupid.
Finding her with Harry had made me really furious but thankfully, I had managed to control myself. Anger was one of the things that could easily make me turn against my will. Controlling it was the only way I could survive in a city of humans. Had I been at Misenium, that wouldn’t have been problem? This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
The worst thing about having a human mate was that she did not feel the bond as strongly as I did, until we mated and I marked her. I was pretty sure, Maya thought whatever she felt for me was a strong crush/infatuation that would soon pass. She seemed intent on pursuing things with that Harry character, but I was not going to let that happen.
After getting out of Maya’s office, I went to my car and had the driver take me home. Entering Misenium always made me good. It was where I could be true myself and no one would judge me for it. Now, I loved being my true self but I was tired of being like that without my mate. Suddenly, I did not want other woman anymore. Ever since I met my mate, something had changed in me and I all I wanted was her. I was not sure whether that was a good or bad thing.
Normally, the gate of my private house would open even before the car got to it. This time, it remained close.
“What is going?” I asked the driver.
“No idea.”
I could tell that something was not right. I sniffed the air and got it. Vamps. Pushing my door open, I stepped out.
“Come out,” I said.
I rolled my eyes when I saw Javon Redding coming out of the security house, his fangs looking bloodied.
I growled when I saw him.
“Sorry, dog.” He said. “Your men wouldn’t let me in.”
Javon Redding was my nemesis. He was the leader of the vampires in Misenium. Like any typical vampire, he was irresponsible and had impulse control issues.
“What are you doing at my house?”
“I wanted to go to the pack mansion but I knew the security there would be tight,” he said. “Besides, I’ve been hearing that you have been spending too much time over here. I wonder what that’s all about but I think that it might have to do with a certain girl who was with one of us when he went missing.”
I bared my teeth and felt my fangs protruding. If he knew that I had a human mate, her life would be in danger. Nothing was supposed to happen to her.
“Calm down. I don’t care about your issues but I care about that boy. He’s my niece. I can only hope that you’ve not killed him because if you did, the peace you want so much in this city would vanish and we would all go back to being our true selves, killing whoever got in our way.”
“Why would you think I had anything to do with that boy?”
Javon started chuckling. “Oh man, you really need to have better control of the women you trust. The little witch you used to around with agreed to do a locator spell. Apparently, you forgot that she is the one who did the protection spell on your house and can therefore get through the boundary. A jilted woman can be very dangerous. You shouldn’t have ghosted her.”
Oh hell. Lainey and I used to be in a casual relationship but ever since I found my mate, I had lost interest in her.
“Oh well, come and take your boy,” I said. “I no longer need him anyway.”
I had been planning to release him that day because I knew everything I needed.
“This seems so easy. What are you up to?”
“Nothing,” I said. “I don’t need him anymore.”
I was not surprised to see that the two guards I left were dead. I left the driver to deal with the mess and went into the house.
“Why won’t you invite me in?” Javon asked.
I didn’t dignify that with a response. I proceeded to the basement and opened the cage letting the vampire out. He was weak, because I had been feeding him with a few cups of animal blood which was not enough to keep him strong.
“You finally got back to your senses, huh?” he said.
“Your uncle is here,” I told him.
“I’m going to tell him everything. You were asking a lot about the company I work for. I think there’s something you want from there and I’m going to make sure you don’t get it.”
I chuckled. “Foolish boy. Tell him whatever you want. I already bought the company, and you are officially fired.”
“What?”
“Get out.”
He thought he could have the last laugh, but things did not turn out the way he wanted. He walked away and I followed him to make sure he left my house without causing any trouble.
Now I had to ensure that he stayed away from my woman, and the best way to do that was to get before anyone else.
I intended to make my move the next day without fail. My pack needed their queen home where she would be safe.
