TAMING THE BEAST IN HIM ( His Red Phoenix )

Phoenix was sleeping when her phone rang, waking her up. She sluggishly answered.

” Hello, aunt ”

” Phoenix, where is Axion? ” Glinda’s voice sounded worried and that made Phoenix sit up.

” He isn’t back from work today. Is something wrong aunt? ”

” Axion didn’t go to work today. Tonight is the night of the full moon and it’s getting dark already. You have to find him before he transforms. I’m on my way now ” Glinda revealed and Phoenix’s heart digested into her stomach.

Shit! She totally forgot about tonight.

” Ok aunt ” She said and ended the call. She tugged out of the bed and dashed out of the room. She knows where Axion must be right now. Standing before the prohibited room, she breathed out nervously as her heartbeat increased.

She twisted the doorknob but it was locked. That made fear grip her.

” Axion, please open the door, can you hear me? ” She called out, knocking on the door but didn’t get any response.

” Axion ” She called out again, banging on the door this time around. When nobody answered, she kicked down the door with her might and rushed in.

Immediately she hurried in, there was Axion, by the window of the room, gazing into the sky, in a weak state. Phoenix’s eyes broadened in great horror as she watched Axiom transform into a beast, bellowing and roaring in pain. It was like a horror movie to her and she froze on the spot.

Now fully a beast, Axion snapped his head toward her, shooting her a petrifying glare. At first, Phoenix’s whole was trembling in fear as she tried grasping herself but the moment Axion’s eyes met with hers, the fear in her vanished instantly.

Her face softened and her heart melted in pity seeing the pain and disgust in Axion’s eyes. She could feel the agony he was in and that got her body moving. She didn’t even realize she was walking over to him, their gaze still intact.

” Don’t come close. Stay away from me ” Axiom snarled at her but she kept approaching.

” I said stay away!! ” Axion flared up in rage still she didn’t care.

Phoenix stopped on getting to him and she held his face, her eyes gazing into his as tears flooded them. Axion was shocked.

” I’m sorry ” She mumbled.

” You’re in pain but I can’t even do anything about it, I’m sorry ” Her tears rolled down and she looked down, ashamed. Seeing those tears, Axion was touched deeply. His eyes softened and the anger, rage, and disgust he was feeling were quenched immediately… Holding her chin gently with his big finger, he tilted her head up to look at him.

So he recognizes her, he knows she’s his Phoenix.

That alone sent waves of unexplainable happiness down her.

” Axion ” She chuckled happily as a tear escaped her eyes.

” Tell me. Aren’t you scared of me? Don’t you feel disgusted seeing me like this? Aren’t I too ugly to even look at? ” Axion threw the question at her. Phoenix could infer the pain behind those questions.

Running her hand down his hairy arm, she took his hand and interlocked her fingers with his. She didn’t mind how rugged, strong and huge they were.

Despite being in his beast form, Axion’s heart skipped and his body shuddered to the feeling of Phoenix’s soft hand on his. Phoenix placed his hand on her face, her eyes peering into his soul.

” I don’t care what you look like Axion. I don’t care if you’re a beast or a human, I don’t give a dime. All I know is that you’re Axion and I care about you. That’s all that matters ” She assured with a sincere smile.

Only heavens understood the amount of happiness that jogged down Axion’s heart hearing those words from Phoenix. It felt so soothing to his ear that a smile couldn’t help creeping up his lips too.

For the first time in 27 years of him being a beast, he smiled and it was genuine, deep down from his heart. And it’s all thanks to his Phoenix.

And just when Axion had calmed down, Glinda hurried into the room, with a bow and arrows In her hand. Seeing Phoenix so close to Axion, her eyes widened.

” Get away from him, Phoenix! ” She exclaimed and that was when the two looked over at the door. Seeing the arrow pointing at him, Axion’s anger sparked up. He immediately glared at Phoenix.

” You… you betrayed me. You lied to me ” He muttered, pain visible in his eyes. He felt betrayed thinking Phoenix was only putting on act just to give Glinda enough time to ambush him.

” No ” Phoenix nodded negatively, trying to cup his face.

” You liar! ” Axion roared, pushing her off, roughly.

” Axion, no ” Phoenix muttered as he growled, glaring at Glinda with every hate in him. All he wanted to do right now was to rip her apart.

Glinda was about to release the arrow at him when Phoenix stood in the way.

” Aunt, stop! ” She yelled in anger. Both Glinda and Axiom were surprised.

” Phoenix, what are you doing? ” Glinda gaped at her like she had finally lost it.

” Stop aunt. Please don’t shoot him ”

” He isn’t dangerous, he’s just scared ” Phoenix pleaded. Glinda frowned deeply at her.

” Phoenix, what the…

” Just let me handle him, aunt, please ” Phoenix cut her off. Turning to face Axion who was scowling at Gianna, breathing in anger, she stepped closer to him.

Taking his hand with two of her hands, she squeezed it gently, gazing intently into his eyes.

” I won’t let anyone harm you, ok? ” She assured. Axion’s anger vanished and he felt secure once again.

” Promise? ” He asked and Phoenix placed one of her hands on his face, stroking it reassuringly.

” I promise ” Phoenix smiled at him. To convince him even more, Phoenix hugged him, tight.

Axion’s whole body relaxed as Phoenix hugged him. He so felt safe and comfortable that even the beast inside him couldn’t help but agree that the hug was the most assuring hug anyone would give to him.

And like that, he slowly wrapped his big hands around her tiny body, returning the hug. Sniffing in her scent was enough to soothe his brain and the beast in him. Without even knowing it, he started taking back the form of a human until he fully turned to Axion.

Glinda’s eyes couldn’t believe what just happened. It was like a dream to her, a sweet fantasy. Never in 27 years of being a beast has Axion ever turned back to human without being shot the Blood Arrow. But he just did today, right before her eyes with just a mere hug from Phoenix.

THE NEXT DAY

Axion groaned low in his throat, slowly opening his weak eyes. It turned out he fainted while hugging Phoenix earlier. As usual, Phoenix was sitting beside him on the bed, holding his hand.

Seeing her, Axion slipped his hand away from her hold and struggled to sit up.

” Let me help you ” Phoenix offered and he didn’t object unlike before.

” What happened? Did I harm anyone? ” He inquired, not remembering what happened after he turned back to a human.

” You fainted and that we because you were weak ”

” Here, drink this tea aunt made for you. You’ll feel a lot better ” Phoenix presented the cup of tea to him and he accepted. All while he was drinking it, he didn’t stop glancing at Phoenix.

” I’d leave you to rest now. Call me if you need anything ” Phoenix said and stood up. She was already by the door when,

” Phoenix ” Axion called, prompting her turn.

” Yes ”

” Thank you ” He said. Phoenix was taken aback at first hearing these words from him for the first time. But then a tiny smile shaped on her lips and she nodded before leaving.

Night came and Axion stepped out of the bathroom after enjoying a refreshing bath. His eyes landed on Phoenix on the floor, sleeping. But she was shivering, hugging and covering herself fully with a duvet.

He let out a scoff and walked up to her. He carried her off the ground and laid her gently on the bed, covering her fully with the duvet. Phoenix let out a relaxed sigh as her body met with the soft and warm bed.

Looking at her peaceful face, Axion couldn’t help moving some of the strands of hair covering her face, a tiny smile on his face. He let out a sad sigh.

” You shouldn’t have slept on the floor despite feeling cold. Don’t do it again, ok? ” He whispered to her.

” Ok ” Phoenix mumbled in her sleep like she heard him making Axion chuckle slightly.

Axion was in his office when a knock came on the door.

” Come in ” A lady stepped in.

” Someone is here to meet you, Sir ” The lady informed making Axiom frown. He wasn’t expecting any visitors today.

” Who? ” He demanded.

” She said her name was Phoenix ” The lady replied. Axion’s heart skipped on hearing the name but he frowned even more intensely.

” Why will Phoenix visit him? ” He wondered.

” Let her in ”

” Ok, sir ” The lady bowed and left.

The door opened and Phoenix stepped in. Seeing her, Axion shot her a glare.

” What are you doing here? ” He snapped lightly and Phoenix walked up to his table.

” I came here for the necklace I gave you, Axion ”

MEANWHILE

Back at home, Phoenix can be seen coming out of the kitchen with a plate of macaroni. She was yet to start eating when Gianna appeared before her making her look up.

” Oh, so here you are. I was looking for you ” Gianna hissed with folded arms.

” What are you doing here, Gianna? I thought you left with Axiom to the office this morning ” Phoenix drawled with raised eyebrows.

” Well, I did. But me standing here before you imply I’m no longer at the office with Axion ”

” He is with a very… important… visitor ” Gianna grinned evilly and seeing her grin, Phoenix’s heart stomped in fear. Good bumps filled her body making her spring up from the chair. It was a bad feeling that Axion was in danger.

” If you aren’t in the office with Axion right now, then who is there with him? ” She demanded with a stern look…
