Take Me Away

Chapter 147 A Divorce

Chapter 147 A Divorce

As soon as those words were heard, the room became as silent as a grave. That moment, both Fiona's

and Celine's eyes went wide with shock. They couldn't believe what they had just heard. Celine opened

her mouth, surprised, and a slight smile appeared on her lips.

"Spencer..." Her eyes twinkled as she called out to him.

Celine's voice pulled Fiona back to reality. Shocked, she took a few steps back and tears started rolling

down her cheeks. She felt as if her entire life had fallen apart. With quivering lips, she choked back her

tears and asked a second time, "What did you say, Spencer?"

"Didn't you hear what I just said? You need to either have an abortion or divorce me," Spencer said

impassively.

"Divorce..." Fiona repeated with great difficultly. Spencer's emotionless words and his heartlessness

towards her and their marriage shattered her heart into pieces. How could he even say the word

"divorce" so effortlessly? Was he deliberately trying to embarrass her in front of Celine?

"So, have you decided yet?" Spencer didn't give her any time to think about it and aggressively

prompted her again. "Tell me, what is your choice?"

"I..." Fiona felt bile rise in her throat. She opened her mouth, only to find tears trickling down her

cheeks.

She lowered her head, not wanting to look at their faces, and cried so hard that her body started

trembling. Spencer stared at her without uttering a single word. He had his back to Celine, so she

couldn't read his expression.

Fiona cried for a long time without saying a word.

"I just went through a miscarriage and you're here weeping in my ward. Are you doing this to mock me

for my bad luck?" Celine asked impatiently after waiting for a while, breaking the uncomfortable silence

in the room. Truth be told, she felt more annoyed because of Spencer's attitude towards Fiona.

Regardless of his cold and indifferent words, he still didn't send her away.

"Fiona, I'm asking you again, do you choose—"

"Divorce,"

Fiona blurted out softly before Spencer could finish his words. However, her heart was weighed down

with sorrow.

Her answer caught Spencer off guard. He opened his mouth in surprise before his face darkened. He

was the one who had given her an ultimatum, forcing her to choose. Yet, he felt powerless when she

finally gave him her answer.

He almost felt as if he couldn't breathe when he heard that word coming out of Fiona's mouth. Spencer

had once been a master at holding his breath, when he was in an endurance training program. He

used to be able to hold his breath underwater for several minutes, but now, he was gasping for breath.

No words could describe the pain he was feeling at that moment. It was almost as if he was sinking in

the ocean and his lungs were filled with salty sea water. He felt like he was going to explode any

second. He couldn't utter a word, and felt nothing but agony. This was nothing like any pain he'd

experienced before. He was engrossed in his heartache, and suddenly felt clueless about his next step.

On the other hand, Fiona felt like she was falling into a bottomless abyss. She stared ahead with a

blank expression, not knowing what to do. She didn't know what to do next. She didn't know anything.

She felt like there was no need for her to stay there any longer. She turned around and walked towards

the door absentmindedly.

She stepped out of the room, gently closing the door shut behind her.

For a moment, she paused in thought. Then, she began walking away. Suddenly, something occurred

to Spencer. Trembling, he rushed out after her, trying to catch hold of her.

Seeing his receding figure, Celine roared, "Spencer! Come back to me!"

But Spencer ignored Celine's yelling and stepped out. He saw Fiona walking only a few steps ahead of

him. Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

"Fiona!" he called out to her all of a sudden.

Fiona stopped, but said nothing. She neither turned to look at him nor walked further away. She felt like

a puppet, moving whenever others wanted her to, and stopping whenever they made her stop. It was

like she had no thoughts or feelings of her own.

Upon seeing Spencer and Fiona, the hospital staff walking along the corridor stood still and watched

them.

Spencer broke the silence. Clenching his fists, he said, "Fiona, do you remember what I asked you the

other day? You still haven't given me a reply. So, I'm asking you again..."

With her back to him, Fiona stayed silent when she heard his words. Tears streamed down her cheeks.

She couldn't bear to look at him, for she feared that she'd only embarrass herself if she did.

"Do you love me?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, Spencer felt nervous. He hoped Fiona would say that she loved

him. Fiona bit her lower lip and began sobbing even harder. 'Spencer, why do you have to ask me that

now? Isn't it ridiculous? You already expressed your feelings very clearly and said that you wanted a

divorce. It doesn't make any sense for you to ask this question now. Why? Would it make you feel more

satisfied if I said I loved you?' she thought.

Fiona brought her hand up to her face and wiped away her tears. She then took a step further away

from him and said quickly, "I don't love you."

'She doesn't love me?

Fiona says she doesn't love me,' Spencer thought to himself numbly.

"Oh. You don't love me." All of a sudden, he burst into laughter. He'd never felt so lonely before.

A while later, Eric walked down that same corridor and found Spencer sitting on a bench in the hallway,

with his elbows on his thighs and his hands covering his head. He wasn't moving at all, but the sheer

sorrow he was exuding could not be ignored.

A nurse was passing by when Eric suddenly grabbed her arm and pulled her aside. "Hey! How long

has he been sitting there like that?"

"Mr. Cheng has been here since morning. He didn't even go for lunch."

Eric frowned. "Hmm, I see." After saying that, he signaled for the nurse to leave.

He walked closer to Spencer, holding a document in his hand. He saluted him and handed him the

papers. "Here's the document you asked for, Spencer."

Spencer looked up abruptly, as if he had gone through a long and tiring day.

"I'll take it." Spencer stretched out his hand and took the agreement from him. His hand trembled as he

touched the papers. On the first page, the words "Divorce Agreement" were written in bold letters.

"Where is my pen?" he asked in a hoarse voice.

Eric sighed. "Do you really have to do this? You can't think of any other way than divorce?"

"Where is my pen?" Spencer asked again, ignoring Eric's question.

Eric said nothing further and handed the pen to him quietly. Spencer felt his heart in his mouth as he

held the pen, ready to sign the document. He was so nervous that he couldn't even move his pen.

He paused. After a while, he frantically started searching his pockets for something. Just as Eric was

wondering what he was looking for, Spencer took out a pen from his pocket and moved to open the lid.

But just before he did, he found that there was a pen in his hand. Surprised, he quickly shoved Eric's

pen into his pocket.

Eric furrowed his eyebrows as he watched Spencer sign the papers. It was obvious that he wasn't in

the right state of mind. 'Spencer, you look like a fool right now.' Eric thought to himself.

Eventually the sun went down, and moonlight enveloped the base in P City.

Fiona was sitting on the couch in George's room, blankly staring at the wall. George sat in his

wheelchair, close to her. Dinner was laid out on the table in front of them, but neither of them touched

the food.

"It's not your fault that Celine had a miscarriage. She probably deserves it," George said casually.

"Don't blame yourself, okay? Besides, Spencer is in a fit of anger and will be himself in a moment."

When he got no reply from Fiona, he sighed and added, "Even if you don't eat for yourself, you have to

think about the child you're carrying. Your child needs proper care and nutrition to grow up to be

healthy and happy. He won't get that if his mother cries all day and skips her meals."

At the mention of her child, Fiona shifted a little and asked, "George, do you believe me? When I tell

you that it's Spencer's child I'm carrying, do you believe me?"

George nodded without a second thought. "I do believe you.

Even from the time you were a kid, you have never lied to anyone. You say things as they are. I will

always trust your words, Fiona."

Tears began streaming down Fiona's face again. "George, Spencer won't believe me no matter how

hard I try to explain it to him. He would rather trust Celine's words than mine. Even if he's only doing all

this to get back at me, hasn't he hurt me enough? Why is being an adult so complicated? Just why...?"

George was about to comfort her when he heard the doorbell ring.

Since Fiona was too depressed to move, he had no choice but to wheel himself to the door. He opened

the door and saw Eric standing outside.

As soon as Eric saw George, he saluted him. "This document is from Spencer. He asked me to get

Fiona's signature."

"What is it?" George furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. But when he saw Eric hesitating to answer,

he said, "Fine, give it to me."

However, Eric didn't hand over the document to George. Instead, he glanced at Fiona from the corner

of his eye and said, "Spencer asked me to deliver it personally to Fiona and take it back once she signs

it."

George looked at Fiona and then at Eric. Then, as if making a decision, he finally moved back from the

door. "Please, come in."

"Thank you." Eric gave him a curt nod and walked over to Fiona. He handed the document and a pen

to her and said, "Well... please sign the document."

An uneasy feeling rose in the pit of Fiona's stomach as she looked at the papers in her hand. As soon

as she read the words "Divorce Agreement" on the front page, she felt like someone had just punched

her in the face. The divorce agreement had arrived in less than a day!

George moved closer, leaned over, and skimmed the document in Fiona's trembling hands.

"Divorce agreement? Is Spencer insane? Does he have a death wish?" he roared in anger, turning to

Eric. Tears poured down Fiona's eyes, making her vision cloudy.

She could see Spencer's neat handwriting and beautiful signature even through her blurred eyes. Her

marriage had started with tears, and it seemed that it was going to end with tears, too. 'Spencer, why

did you force me to marry me if you only wanted to get a divorce?'

Anyway, there was nothing she could do about it now. Taking a deep breath, she gently uncapped the

lid of the pen.

"No, Fiona!" George frowned and tried to stop her. "You can't sign it out of haste!"

Fiona shook her head. "Spencer has made his intentions very clear," she replied in a hoarse voice.

Then, she quickly signed the agreement before George could stop her.

Spencer Cheng, Fiona Ji. For the first time, their names were neatly printed next to each other. It would

also be the last time.
