Chapter 129 Do You Love Me
Chapter 129 Do You Love Me
After seeing the injured George, Fiona cried until she was out of breath. Recalling Leona and her fate
at the hands of Charles, she couldn't stop herself from wailing. So many people had been hurt and
killed in order to save her, and it broke her heart to be the cause of their pain.
"Let's go back to your ward. Please stop crying," Spencer said as he tried to help Fiona move.
"I can go by myself," she stubbornly replied. Dismissing Spencer's concern, she staggered ahead of
him.
His eyes dimmed for a brief moment, but he eventually followed his wife.
It was almost noon when he received a call from Wayne. The old man told him that he had been
missing him and Fiona. He had no idea about the terror both of them had gone through in the last
couple of days.
"We're doing great, Grandpa. Please take good care of yourself. Fiona and I will visit you in a couple of
days," Spencer said cheerfully from his end of the line.
"Hand Fiona the phone. I want to talk to her," Wayne said. "I asked your father where you went, but he
didn't tell me."
Spencer could only press his lips. Ethan had given him permission to go abroad, but it seemed that he
had kept it hidden from Wayne.
"Fiona, Grandpa wants to talk to you," Spencer said as he gave her the phone.
With a nod, Fiona took it and greeted her grandfather-in-law. "Grandpa," she called softly.
"How are you doing, Fiona? You haven't called me in such a long time. Have you forgotten me?"
"Of course not!" Fiona sniffed as she tried to hold back her tears. "I miss you very much. I couldn't call
because my phone is broken. How's your health, Grandpa?"
"I'm fine, dear. It's you who should take care of yourself. I hope you're doing well, Fiona. Spencer has a
bad temper. If he makes you angry, just tell me and I'll punish him for you."
"There's nothing to worry about. He treats me very well." Seeing Fiona's eyes brimming with tears
made Spencer's heart twist in pain.
"That's great! I haven't been sleeping well these last few days. I was worried that something had
happened to you two. Please take care of one another, okay?"
"Yes, Grandpa," Fiona replied, her voice cracking from holding herself back from crying. Spencer
walked up to her and wiped off her tears. He was about to hug her for comfort, but Fiona immediately
evaded his arms.
He ended up holding nothing, leaving him embarrassed and frustrated. 'What's wrong with her? She's
been trying to avoid me since this morning. I wonder why.'
Fiona exchanged a few more words with Wayne before she finally bade him goodbye. She was
handing back the phone to Spencer when she saw Celine come out of the bathroom, assisted by a
nurse.
Without saying a word, Fiona merely closed her eyes. Opposite her, Spencer felt uncomfortable
because of the situation in the ward.
"Spencer." It was Celine who called his attention just then. "Can you transfer me to a different ward?
I'm not used to having people around." Celine was not a fool. She knew that all Spencer could think
about was Fiona. Her better judgment told her that she shouldn't have provoked her, but she couldn't
stand the situation. She didn't want Fiona there.
"Fine." Spencer agreed. "I don't think it's comfortable for two people to share a ward, too." He turned to
the nurse and asked, "Can I take Fiona back now? Is it alright given her condition?"
"Well..." Sensing the nurse's hesitation to let her leave, Fiona stood up from the bed and declared, "I
know my own body. I'm fine. I don't need to stay here."
"Let me assist you," Spencer said as he held Fiona in his arms.
"You..." His sudden embrace caught Fiona by surprise.
"Let me go!" she shouted, pushing him away. Her eyes were red with anger.
"Are you trying to cause a scene in here?" Spencer replied in a low but grim tone.
Fiona merely scowled, but didn't say anything. She turned her head away, unwilling to look Spencer in
the eye.
Sensing that something was wrong between the two, Celine cast a side glance at them while
pretending to mind her own business.
Eventually, Spencer was able to walk out of the ward carrying Fiona after securing the doctor's
approval. They were already halfway to the dorm when, unable to contain his own emotions, he
stopped in his tracks and asked, "What's wrong with you? Ever since you woke up, it's like you hate
seeing me. Did I do something to piss you off?"
"No, you didn't," Fiona replied indifferently. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
He opened his mouth but he couldn't think of anything to say. He felt anger welling up in his heart and
yet he wasn't sure why. He knew he wasn't mad at Fiona for her attitude. He was annoyed by the fact
that he didn't understand why she acted that way. 'She is back now. Why isn't she happy?' Instead of
feeling victorious and elated, Fiona's behavior towards him made him uneasy.
Was it because of George? George had been badly injured after he rescued Fiona. While she had
been very grateful to him for everything, he couldn't help but wonder if something more happened
between the two.
Spencer's mind wandered.
"You can put me down now," Fiona said out of nowhere. Spencer's gaze made her uncomfortable.
"As if I'd let you go." He held her tighter. "You have no idea how I feel now that I have you back, safe
and sound."
"Is it because you didn't think I was coming back?" Fiona asked through gritted teeth. The last few days
had made her go through things she never thought she'd experience in her life. She had felt utterly
helpless when she watched Leona die and when Charles molested her in front of his guards. But most
painful of all was the fact that Spencer didn't come to save her as she hoped.
Spencer could only blink as he stared at Fiona's cold expression. Bitterly, he asked, "How could you
say that? How could you think that I didn't want you back? The only one I cared about was you!"
"You say I came back safe and sound?" Fiona turned to Spencer with rage in her eyes. "Yeah,
Spencer! I came back safe and sound! But what was the price? What was the cost of my safety? Leona
died! George got shot! Dozens of his men were killed! How could I possibly be happy when so many
had suffered for me? Do you have any idea how that feels?"
"But those aren't your fault!" Spencer argued. "Of course, no one wants to be in that situation. But I
couldn't bear the thought of Charles hurting you. Whatever it took, I wanted to save you."
"Save me?" Fiona sneered as she gave Spencer a shove. Unprepared for the push, his grip loosened
and Fiona buckled in his arms.
"Fiona!" He grabbed her before she could fall on the ground.
"Don't touch me," Fiona said coldly as she swatted his hand away. "Don't pretend that you care about
someone you couldn't be bothered to save."
Spencer looked in confusion. "I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean."
"There's no need for you to understand." She turned around and took a couple of steps to leave. As
soon as she faced the other way, tears ran down her cheeks.
"You can't leave until you explain to me what is happening!" Spencer grabbed her by the arm and
pulled her aside.
Fiona stumbled and fell into Spencer's arms. The tears that had been streaking her face flowed in a
ceaseless stream.
"Who couldn't be bothered to save you? Who pretended to care? Please explain everything so that I
can understand!" His voice trembled as he threatened. Even his hands were shaking as he gripped her
by the arm.
"Do you really want me to say it?" Fiona raised her head and stubbornly stared at him despite her
tears. "You promised to save me, but why didn't you come? Charles told me that you'd given up on me,
and I didn't believe him. But why, Spencer? Why did you choose to save Celine instead of me?" It
wasn't until then that Fiona realized how greatly she was affected by Spencer's relationship with Celine
in the past. Fiona sobbed, "If you couldn't do it in the first place, you shouldn't have given me hope."
She couldn't help but think that
she had gotten her hopes up over nothing. A look of guilt crept on Spencer's face as he slowly
understood Fiona's words. He replied, "It's not like that! How could you think I'd given up on you? Even
when I was rescuing Celine, it was you I was thinking about. I couldn't rest until I saw you back and
safe last night. I didn't come to rescue yesterday because I had no other choice! But it was never my
intention to leave you alone!"
"It doesn't matter." Fiona shook as she sobbed, but she looked much calmer than she did moments
earlier. "Besides, it's not like you've always saved me every time I needed help. I shouldn't have
expected too much from you."
Back when she was caught in a shooting accident at the airport, it was Charles who saved her. This
time around, George came to her rescue. In both situations, Celine was the one Spencer watched over.
Realizing this, Spencer clenched his fists. Weakly, he told Fiona, "I'm sorry."
"It's not a big deal. You just had to choose who's more important for you." Fiona blinked, holding back
the tears in her eyes. "I'm the one who shouldn't be in your life. After all, you've always hated me..."
"But you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with!" Spencer had interrupted her before she
could finish her words. "I never knew that you'd make this much of an impact on my life. I never thought
that you'd come and make me realize that I didn't want to spend my days in the base. All I want is to be
with you! I already told you, I love you! If you think this isn't a big deal, then hear me out... I want to be
with you all my life. You're the one I choose!"
There weren't a lot of people around as the couple made their heated exchange. But three soldiers
were passing by as they patrolled the surroundings. They couldn't help but glance at Spencer when
they heard his passionate confession.
"What about Celine?" Fiona asked. Since he had already said so much, she pressed her luck and
asked him the question she'd been dying to get an answer for.
"If you want, I will send her away as soon as she recovers in a couple of days. I will completely cut off
ties with her. I don't care if we no longer see each other or even if we become strangers, just as long as
I know you're happy," Spencer said firmly.
Fiona narrowed her eyes but said nothing. Her eyes felt sore from crying too much.
"Would you mind if I ask you a question?" Spencer looked at her affectionately. "Do you love me,
Fiona?"
