Chapter 223 Did She Do It?
Chapter 223 Did She Do It?
During this period of time, Edric secretly visited Irene and Eden frequently. After a period of contact
with Edric, Eden's bitterness towards Edric had reduced. He no longer refused his gifts and had started
to talk to him. Edric was pleased with the change in Eden that had taken place. Apart from working in
the company, and dealing with those evil b*stards, his free time was mainly spent with his son and
Irene.
Jordan's bitterness towards Edric had decreased as well. However, he was still a little worried when he
saw how frequently he visited their home. Judging from Edric's actions, it was obvious that he was
planning to reconcile with Irene. If Edric and Irene really were to get back together, what would happen
to Nathan then?
Nathan had waited for Irene for so many years, and his heart and feelings had never changed for her.
There was no way for Edric to win at the most crucial part.
Jordan was truly worried for Nathan. A few days ago, Nathan had said that he would return to
Haverland to see Irene. It had been a few days since then, so why had there been no news? Had
something gone wrong again?
Worried, Jordan called Nathan and asked why he had not come back. Nathan sighed on the phone and
stammered, "Jordan, I-I'm afraid I won't be going back for the time being!"
"Why?" Jordan was surprised. Nathan had always been open-minded. He was surprised that Nathan
would suddenly stammer.
"Something had happened. Ah, I do not have the guts to face Irene anymore!"
Nathan's words shocked Jordan even more, "What on earth happened?"
"It's too embarrassing!" Nathan cried, "And it's very wrong!"
"We've been friends for many years. Why don't you tell me and see if I can help you?"
Nathan sighed heavily, "Jordan, I-I slept with another woman."
"Huh?!" Jordan couldn't believe his ears. Nathan had always lived a rather pure lifestyle for so many
years and there had never been any rumors of him sleeping with another woman.
However, since it had already happened, Nathan did not intend to hide it anymore. Thinking about that
day it happened, he was still confused. How did Jodie end up sleeping with him?
That day, he had taken Jodie to the mall to do some shopping and then they had gone back to the
White family home. Jodie's gentle and demure personality was adored by Britney very much and she
had offered Jodie to stay overnight and accompany her.
Jodie also liked the grandmother very much, hence she agreed.
That night, Joanne's parents had also come to visit Britney. The chefs had prepared a variety of dishes.
Nathan had been in a good mood since he would be returning to Haverland soon to see Irene so he
drank a lot of wine after being persuaded by the others. Later, he had gone back to his room and fell
fast asleep.
Amidst his deep slumber, he vaguely heard someone calling his name and asking him to drink soup to
sober up. Nathan opened his eyes, and saw Irene standing by his bed holding a bowl of soup in her
hands. He then murmured, "Irene!"
Irene smiled shyly at him in return and said, "Nathan, drink this hangover soup!"
The voice did not sound like Irene and he tried to focus. When he grew a little clear-headed, he
remembered that Jodie was staying in the house, so he smiled apologetically. He took the soup from
Jodie and drank it. After drinking the soup, he handed the bowl to Jodie and said his thanks before
going back to sleep.
It did not take long for him to start feeling hot all over. He felt flames in his chest so he got up from the
bed all wobbly, and went to find water.
After a few steps, the door was pushed open and someone came in, "Nathan, why are you still up?"
Nathan answered, "I'm thirsty."
"I'll get you some water, so you just lie down!" Jodie helped him to his bed and turned around to leave.
After a while, she came back with some water. She handed the water to Nathan. He took a few sips of
it, but still felt uncomfortable and his body still felt hot.
Jodie reached out and touched his forehead, "Nathan, are you having a fever?"
Jodie's cold hand touched Nathan's forehead. He felt a little better for some reason. He could not hear
what Jodie was saying anymore. Irene's face flickered in front of him, and his chest continued to burn
like fire. Nathan was about to lose his mind...
The next morning, Nathan was awakened by a scream. He opened his eyes and saw Joanne standing
by the door and looking at him with a panicked expression, "Nathan.. you...."
Nathan froze. He turned around and saw a beautiful face next to him. He jumped up in shock. The
incident from last night then flashed in his mind. Looking at his naked body, it did not take long for him
to figure out what had happened.
"You had s*x with a woman who has lost her memories?" Jordan raised his voice. How could such a
thing happen to Nathan? He asked, "Did that woman set you up?"
Why did she deliver sober soup and water to him in the middle of the night? It was too suspicious even
for Jordan. Jordan's intuition told him that the woman named Jodie had actually plotted against Nathan.
Nathan shook his head and said, "It can't be her. I've asked her before. The hangover soup was made
by the chefs in the kitchen. I only drank half of the cup of water that she had brought in. There was still
half a cup of water left. I had asked the doctor to examine that half cup of water. There wasn't a
problem at all."
"That's strange. If it wasn't her, then who could it be?" Jordan was puzzled, "You are not the kind of
man who is disloyal. How can you indulge in such an immoral act?"
"I don't know! Maybe I had thought that Jodie was Irene because I had been drunk. I feel sorry and
regretful these days. I feel so sorry towards Irene and Jodie at the same time. I'm just so confused right
now!"
"Then, did Jodie say anything?" Jordan asked.
Nathan sighed, "She didn't blame me. She said that it wasn't my fault and she was ready to leave.
Madam Britney said she was a poor girl and had no one to rely on. She couldn't let her leave!"
Although he did not know Jodie well, this woman's purity had been ruined by him, so of course he
would feel regretful in his heart.
Jodie did not say anything nor blamed him. She instead told him that it was alright and to not take it
seriously, but how could he not take it to heart?
"You shouldn't keep her by your side for long, though. Let's see if you can find a way to send her away.
Don't tell Irene about this first. We'll let Irene know after she gives birth to the child. I'm sure Irene will
understand and not blame you," Jordan suggested.
"I don't feel comfortable with this though. How will I face her after I've done something like that?"
"Calm down, I've told you that it's not your fault. Irene will surely forgive you." Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
"I can't get over my mistake."
"Then, what do you want? Are you going to marry that woman instead?" Jordan asked.
"I…" Nathan fell silent. He had already given his heart to Irene. Asking him to marry Jodie was
completely unrealistic.
Jordan reminded her, "Nathan, I'm telling you, what had happened to you isn't normal at all. I suspect
that there's something wrong with that woman. Do not do anything reckless and think thoroughly on
what you should do next."
Nathan shook his head and said, "I've thought it through it clearly. My house has only my family and
they're not close with Jodie at all. Why would they scheme against me?"
"Don't jump to conclusions too early. Maybe someone doesn't want you and Irene to be together..."
Jordan stopped and continued, "Nathan, was Joanne there when you were framed?"
"Yes, she was the one who woke me up in the morning."
"Could it be her who did it?" Jordan asked.
"It can't be, right?"
"It's hard to say. She used to target Irene. Maybe it's the same this time. You'd better investigate her."
After hanging up on the call with Jordan, Nathan frowned. Could the culprit have been Joanne? Deep
down, he did not want to believe that Joanne would be behind all these. However, when he thought
about how she had once plotted against Irene, Nathan felt uncertain. He had to look into the matter
carefully.
That day, everyone had had dinner together. Therefore, it would be impossible for him to be the only
one who had been drugged by the food. In addition to the food and wine, he had only drunk one bowl
of hangover soup and half a cup of water. There was no problem with the water therefore the hangover
soup was the only suspicious item left.
That time, he had asked the chefs if he had been the only one who had drunk the hangover soup but it
turned out that Joanne had also drunk it. That had made him believe that the problem was not lying in
the hangover soup then. However, he had mistaken Jodie for Irene, and Jordan's reminder to him to
investigate properly made Nathan feel that it was necessary for him to investigate the soup again.
He asked the chefs in the kitchen,"Was anyone else in here when you made that hangover soup?"
"No, I made two sets of it. One was for you, and the other was for Miss White. After I had finished
preparing it, I had called Sophia to hand it to you, but she was not around. Just then, Miss Jodie had
heard me calling out and she came down. She heard that I needed help to send the hangover soup to
you and she volunteered to do so," the chef said.
As for what had happened next, Jodie had already told her side of the story. She had brought the
hangover soup upstairs to Joanne's room first then to Nathan's. Nathan then dismissed the chef and
went to ask Jodie, "Did anything else happen to you when you sent the hangover soup to Joanne?"
Jodie thought for a moment and said, "When I brought the hangover soup in, Miss White was sleeping
in bed. When I handed the soup to her, she said that she wanted to have yogurt and asked me to take
it for her. I went downstairs to take the yogurt for her. I went to your room after that.
Nathan's expression changed upon hearing her words. Could it really be Joanne who had done it?
