Chapter 43
"Why?"
Gerald couldn't believe what he'd just heard.
"You're kidding, right?"
He smiled and reached out to touch the back of her hand.
"Sabrina, please take back what you said earlier. I don't think I can stop seeing you. If I do, it'll drive me nuts."
A lump welled up in her throat as she wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes with her finger. She sighed.
"Gerald, not too long ago, I…"
She ultimately couldn't finish her sentence. Even if she was drugged and did something against her will, she couldn't pretend like nothing had happened.
"I know. So what? It's not your fault. You don't have to feel guilty or sorry for me. I haven't won you over yet. I have no worries as long as you're here, talking to me. I'm scared when I can't find you."
Sabrina's eyes were red. Tears fell from her eyes again.
Gerald approached and gently wiped away her tears.
"Don't cry, okay? Your face is swollen, and your tears are salty—it will hurt."
His joke drew a smile from Sabrina.
"What should I do if you don't want to see me because of this?"
Gerald sat by the hospital bed, looking at the IV drip bag. The drip was rather cold. So, he reached out to hold the IV line, warming it with his hand.
"Am I being too ridiculous? Am I too unworthy to appear before you?" Gerald asked.
Then, he lowered his gaze.
"But I kind of regret it. Had I known that we would meet, I would have kept my virginity and waited for you."
"That's your past, and it doesn't involve me. Why should I care?" Sabrina ended up comforting him.
Gerald's eyes lit up.
"Ms. Wyatt, nice to meet you. I'm Gerald Ingram."
Sabrina was crying and smiling at the same time.
The more genuine and sincere he was, the more she couldn't reciprocate.
She was in the wrong from the beginning. Back then, when she added Gerald on WhatsApp at the club, she was simply curious about Nelson's reaction. NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
However, Nelson didn't care about her. He had already lost interest in her. Sabrina felt she should have accepted Gerald when she was divorced and single. Then, things wouldn't have ended up like this.
"Gerald, I'm sorry."
Sabrina didn't want to make the same mistake again. She figured it was better that she had the chance to tell him in person than to let him discover it one day. She felt it was better to get it over with than prolong the agony.
Gerald looked into her bright eyes that were filled with wisdom. She clearly wasn't the type of woman he would typically fall for. He wondered how Sabrina managed to steal his heart.
"Sabrina, my feelings for you…"
He considered if it would make things difficult for her.
Ronaldo did remind him that nothing good would come out of his relationship with Sabrina. He also mentioned that Sabrina didn't want to discuss that man's identity because she didn't want to hurt Gerald. Gerald thought that his feelings for her might be a burden for her.
He remembered a time when his call to Sabrina didn't go through. This time, the call connected, but she didn't speak.
Gerald didn't want to think about it that way, but he had experienced the dating life of a playboy.
Sabrina was reserved. She was also beautiful, charming, and conservative. She didn't flirt with others and always looked at others candidly. So, she couldn't put up with that humiliation.
"Was it him tonight?"
Sabrina nodded without looking at Gerald.
"He's my husband."
"Let's be together after you're divorced. It doesn't matter if it's five or ten years. I'll wait. No matter how long it takes," Gerald said firmly.
Sabrina's experience with Nelson left her skeptical of promises. But she believed Gerald at that moment. She couldn't help but gently hug him.
Gerald feared she would accidentally pull out the connected IV drip, so he leaned closer.
Sabrina placed one hand on his back. His clothes were wet from the rain. It made her nose prickle.
"I'm glad that I met you, Gerald."
Gerald lowered his body slightly for her to hug him. He wanted to embrace her tightly, but he was afraid that he wouldn't want to let go after the hug.
He took a deep breath and said thoughtfully, "Sabrina, I promise I won't see you again. Goodbye, sweetheart."
