Chapter 142 KAIDEN STIRLING “What’s going on? Is she okay?” I asked the Chief pack doctor when he came out of the emergency ward. This was the second time I was in this hospital in the last twenty-four hours, and I would be lying if I didn’t say that was driving me nuts. He paused and turned around to talk to the nurse who had been following behind him. “Go ahead. I’ll meet you. Make sure you try to stabilize him,” he said and she nodded before scurrying off. He turned to look at me. “Her condition has gotten worse,” he said with a small frown on his face, like he was worried, or scared. “What are you talking about?” I asked him. Condition? What condition? He stared at me wordlessly and I was a second away from gripping him by the collar before he spoke. “The Luna didn’t tell you?” He asked, his face filling with dread. “Tell me what?” I asked incredulously. I hated it when people beat around the bush and I needed answers. “Of Harper’s condition,” he said, shaking his head and taking a step back. He looked worried before. Now, he looked a hundred times more worried. “What condition??” I questioned, grabbing him by the collar. “Can you talk straight? I’m losing my f**g patience,” I spat in his face. He nodded, rapidly, gripping my hands. I let go of him and maintained my position, standing very close to him. He took a deep breath. 0.00% 14:23 288 iVouchers “Harper has a heart condition. The Luna knows about it. She was supposed to tell you about it. Harper’s situation is like this because she has not been taking her medication,” he said, but he had lost me right from the point where he said my daughter had a heart condition. I st**d backward, processing his words. “Come again?” I requested, struggling to breathe through the devastation that was choking me. He looked worried and scared, not of me, but for me. “Alpha…” He called, his eyes filled with concern. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Tell me that again! What did you say?” I yelled at him. “You were supposed to know about this. It was discovered a little late. Three years ago. As soon as it was discovered, I told the Luna that she needed to tell you. I thought you knew all this time,” he said, shaking his head. I felt unwanted liquid start to fall from my left eye. I wiped my cheek and looked at it. Tears. I tried to hold back the agonized cry that filled my throat, but the reality of this sank into me. So did the devastation. Harper was dying. Hanging on a thin thread that spelled a fifty-fifty chance of her surviving. I started to s**b and the doctor looked both horrified and in pain. “goddess, f**k. Harper… What the f**k?” I wept quietly, the agony in my chest tearing through my voice. “Is she okay? Is she going to be okay? I didn’t know,” I shook my head, falling to my knees. “Alpha,” he whispered and looked around. He knelt in front of me, holding my shoulders. I looked up at him. “I am so sorry, Alpha,” he said, shaking his head. “I had no way of knowing the Luna did not inform you. I should have sent you the official information. This is partly my fault. I’ll do my best for her. 14:23 Harper is a sweet child. I can’t promise anything. Not using her medication has done a number on her body, but I will do my best. My very best,” he assured me. “You will save her?” I asked. “I will do my best. I am not promising anything though,” he said, trying to warn me of the possibility that Harper, would not survive. Harper… My little princess. My beautiful, healthy princess. How didn’t I know? How had I not seen the signs? She had a heart condition. Is that why she easily gets tired. It was probably why she took her time to catch her breath after playing. I looked up at the doctor and nodded. I took his hand. “Do your best for me. I may not have been the best Alpha there is, and I may have been unkind to you in the past, but please help me. Help me…” I pleaded, forcing back the tears in my eyes. He seemed to be fighting his own. “Of course, Alpha,” he said, clasping his hand over mine. “This is for little Harper,” he added and I nodded,
getting to my feet and gathering my composure. I wiped the tears off my face and took a deep breath, squaring my shoulders and taking a step back from him. The devastation I was feeling was suddenly clouded by the thickest fog of anger and hatred I had ever felt in my life. And it was all directed at Safiya. She was the reason my daughter was dying and I was going to destroy her. *** *** My car screeched into the driveway of the pack house and I killed the engine. Dane had said something about Safiya and a meeting called by the Werewolf Council. I could not believe where her priorities were. I had not been able to reach either 14:23 Lyra or Freda. My phone had died since it had barely charged before I unplugged it, but Lyra had said both Safiya and Freda’s names in the same sentence and I did not need to be Sherlock to realize that Safiya was responsible for whatever the hell was going on in that meeting. I pressed my lips and climbed out of the car, slamming the door shut. I could not believe where her priorities were lying. I could not believe the kind of woman Safiya was. Why? Why the hell had she not told me about Harper? Why had she kept something so big from me? I was Harper’s father. I deserved to know, but it seemed that she believed otherwise. Safiya… F**g Safiya. It would take the intervention of the goddess for me to not kill her. I stormed into the Packhouse, heading in the direction of the room dedicated to the Werewolf Council meetings. I took a deep breath to calm myself so I wouldn’t do anything too extreme. I pushed the door open and took a step in. I did NOT like what I saw. Not a single bit.
