Nine months too late: After divorce

Chapter 7

The words sounded foreign to Kage

For a full minute, he gave no reaction, his mind struggling for comprehension.

she was pregnant, the doctor's words replayed in his head. Who was pregnant?

"I don't...I don't understand," he shook his head. "Who's pregnant?"

"Your wife, sir."

"No," he wagged his head. "That's... That's not possible. She can't beThis is from NôvelDrama.Org.

He and Sylvie had never been intimate. So, it was completely impossible that she'd be pregnant.

Suddenly, it became clear to him. Rage blurred his vision, all he could see was red. The bitch! She was pregnant for someone else! She'd been sleeping around!

"S...Sir? Are you alright, sir?" The doctor asked, concerned at the way he looked.

Kage didn't spare her a glance as he rose from his seat and stormed out of the office.

Sylvie was in a meeting when Kage's call came in. She ignored it and got a text next.

"Pick the damn phone, Sylvie! Trust me, this isn't like the others. You'll hate me if you ignore me one more time.

Sylvie was surprised. Okay, she knew Kage was always a psychopath, but this was beyond crazy. Something was seriously

wrong.

"Um... Sorry, can I use the restroom?" She said to the clients she'd been speaking with.

"Sure. Take your time."

She hurried to the restroom and placed the call.

"Hey, what is...

I need you to come home. Right now!" He cut her off, his tone laced with so much anger.

That was a first. Although his words were always heart-wrenching, he had never spoken to her in that tone before.

She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "I... What is wrong? I mean why do you want me home?"

"We need to talk

"Talk?" She scoffed. "You want me to come home at this time just to talk?"

"Don't fucking ask me those questions! If I say I want you home, you should get your ass here."

"Fine. But I'm in a meeting. I can only...

"If you don't get home in twenty minutes, I'll come over myself. And trust me, it's gonna be more embarrassing when I do." The call ended.

For the first time, Sylvie was anxious of meeting with Kage. He sounded too angry on the phone, she'd never seen him that way before. Making her way into the house, she found him in the living room. No one was around. During the day, the house could be

empty

12:17 PM d

Kage was seated on the couch, smoking. He didn't look at her even as she stood beside him.

"What was so important?" Sylvie cleared her throat and asked.

Putting out his cigarette, he stood up.

""You're pregnant," he clipped. "For who?"

Sylvie's heart stopped beating. She froze as did the words in her throat.

Her jaw dropped, and her legs wobbled. What the...

"Can't speak anymore?" Kage tilted his head.

She swallowed pass the lump in her throat. "I don't... I don't understand. What're you talking about?"

"Don't try to play smart with me, Sylvie, else, I swear I'll bring a test strip and force you to pee on it." A shiver coursed down Sylvie's spine. How in God's name did he find out? How was it possible? Nervously, she tucked some strands of hair behind her ear. "Open your mouth, Sylvie! Who have you been sleeping with?"

Fear trapped the words in her throat. This wasn't supposed to happen, not like this at least.

"Damn it!" He kicked the table. "I get it that it's all fake, but how can you let yourself get pregnant for another bastard while married to me? What happened to fucking decency!!"

""Listen..."

Tell me, who's it? Is it Westley? Have you been meeting with him long before now? Have you been travelling over to visit him?

Surprise shot Sylvie's brows at him. What the hell?

"What nonsense are you saying? You're the father!" she revealed, her heart beating faster than normal

Kage paused, the words sinking in on him. Then, he chuckled.

"You've lost it, haven't you? God, how can you be so terrible at making excuses?"

It was too much for Sylvie to take in. Fine, she knew this would be his reaction when he learnt of it, but getting to hear it from him was heart-wrenching.

"Look, I can't have this conversation if you won't be reasonable. Perhaps, when you've found some sense, you can give me a call

She turned to leave, but Kage gripped her wrist. Roughly.

"You're not leaving until you answer my questions. And trust me, you wouldn't want to see how crazy I can get. His eyes burnt with a different kind of rage.

"You and I, we've never even shared a bed before. I've never touched you, Sylvie. So, there's no way in hell yu could be pregnant for me."

Sylvie's eyes glistened with unshed tears as she stared into his eyes.

"You think so?" She scoffed. "How pathetic you don't even remember."

"Stop playing this game! What can't I remember? Ive never touched you!"

"Ninth August!" She yelled. "Does that sound familiar?"

Kage's grip on her hand loosened, Confusion etched his face as he tried to remember.

That night he'd reached a milestone and had been very happy. He went drinking with his friends, for the first time, he was wasted and at the brink of consciousness. He couldn't even recall how he had gotten home.

But he did know something. He knew he had slept with someone. But by morning, he had woken up to Lana beside him. She told him it was the he had slept with. Although, she didn't have a problem with it, Kage apologized and they put it behind them.

No. There was no way that had been a lie. There was no way it had been Sylvic.

He looked at her with a new expression, his brows furrowing

"You remember now, don't you?" She chuckled, a tear slipping down.

"Your friends had brought you home so drunk, I had to help to your room. And that was where it'd happened. You fucking raped me, asshole! I had expected you to say something in the morning, but you didn't. You didn't even remember!" She forced her wrist from his grasp.

"Satisfied?"

Kage was bewildered. The information was more than he bargained for.

He was having a child with her!

Sylvie turned towards the door.

"I was drunk." His words halted her. "How can I be so sure you didn't force yourself on me just so you could get pregnant and stay back in this marriage?"

Sylvie's eyes widened in shock, her mouth going agape. The force of his words left her speechless for some seconds.

"You... You're sick!" She said with disgust. "How can you... How dare you!?"

"Well, what do you expect me to think, Sylvie!? I can't remember having sex with you! How do you expect me to willingly accept the news when I wasn't even expecting it?"

"So, you think L... I forced myself on you?" The words sounded disgusting.

"I don't know. I'm just saying I can't remember. For all I know, this could be some ploy to extend our contract

Sylvie's face was masked in fury. She looked at him and felt repulse.

Anger surged through her, her teeth rattled from the force of it.

"Kage Hawkins," she called. I'd never force myself on a man, let alone you. This baby came by chance, but guess what? I'm going to take care of it I won't need you, Kage. I won't need your family, nor your stupid money. I'll have this child, all by myself! Away from you!" Her words seemed to burn him. Something shifted in him, keeping him frozen.

With an angry glare, she went upstairs. A tear rolled down her cheek as she gathered her things. She couldn't pack every single belonging of hers, it was impossible. So, she packed the important clothes, books and kits. She decided she'd go back for the rest later.

She couldn't spend another minute in that house. She might lose her mind.

When she was done, she had two luggages. It was a hassle dragging one of it downwards alone.

Kage, who had still been in the living room, looked at her with surprise.

Sylvie dropped the first luggage at the end of the staircase, then returned to get the second. But when she reached to descend the staircase, Kage was in front of her

"Where do you think you're going?" His voice was low and dangerous.
