Sylvie had always tried to imagine what it would be like if she got to meet Kage again. Would the butterflies in her tummy still be there? Would she be happy? Angry? Sad? Would she want to run to him and put her arms around him? No matter how hard she had tried to imagine it, she was never able to fully imagine it.

She watched him walk through the door in a tailored black suit, his black hair styled meticulously, with a few deliberate strands falling effortlessly across his forehead. Sharp, angular features highlighted his cold silver eyes, which seemed to draw in anyone who dared to meet his gaze. Now, finally seeing him again, Sylvie felt everything go still around her.

The

entire noise drowned out from around her. She couldn't even hear her own heart beating. In that moment, it was as if nothing existed other than the man in front of her. Kage Hawkins. The man she never thought she could love but ended up loving more than life itself.

Her heart ached as it acknowledged that he looked even more handsome than he'd always been. Although, his eyes looked colder and there was a certain dark aura around him, it did nothing to deter his charms - the one that got every woman in the hall swooning. "Wow." The beside her tsked. "So, he just walks in and steals everyone's attention, huh? How's that fair?" He was clearly joking, but Sylvie didn't pay any attention to him. Finally, her eyes shifted to the woman beside Kage, the one holding hands with him.

man

He was with someone.

Her heart sank as she remembered June speaking of his girlfriend. She had almost forgotten.

Her heart skipped a beat. She couldn't see the lady's face just yet as Kage's shoulders were blocking her view, and she didn't exactly care.

Prior to her return to the country, Ruby had given her some updates on Kage, telling her not to get her hopes high for him. "He isn't the same man he was four years ago." Ruby had said. "There are rumours that he's become very hardened and dangerous. If you think he was rude before, you'd appreciate the old him better. He's completely unfeeling and treats people like trash-like dirt beneath his feet. Well, maybe it's expected seeing that he's become one of the most powerful businessmen in the world, and on the country, he controls the record-breaking Skyscraper." Back then, Sylvie had thought she didn't need those updates from Ruby. But now, as she watched him make his way in with her heart pounding violently, she couldn't help but wonder if there was any truth to Ruby's words. Had Kage truly changed? How dangerous had he become?

They were greeted by some guests immediately, who all wanted his attention, but at the same time, were trying not to

him. Finally, his partner's face came into view and Sylvie was finally able to see her. swamp

Sylvie's face instantly paled, her legs wobbled and threatened to give out to the cold floor. Only that would be too embarrassing. She forced herself to remain still.

Walking beside Kage, hand to hand was Cindy, her bestfriend.

She blinked hard, wondering if she was seeing things. Her brows pinched together in a frown as her thoughts jumbled.

The new girlfriend was Cindy, How was that possible? How could Cindy and Kage have a relationship?

A lump formed in her throat, making it impossible for her to swallow. Her chest swelled with anger.

Kage and Cindy were both overwhelmed and engaged by guests now. While Kage remained stoic, Cindy did all the smiling.

It infuriated Sylvie even more to know that Cindy was wearing one of her dresses.

After the

r the incident with Kage, she hadn't gotten the chance to clear her things from the house before the warehouse drama. The dress Cindy had on was one of her favorites in the closet. Was it possible it was a different one? But the details was too accurate.

Her heart churned with emotions. She felt sweet trickling down her back, and with shaky hands, she reached for her glass of wine, throwing it down her throat at once. God. She never expected her first meeting with Kage to be like this.

Oh,

A lot had happened since four years ago.

Initially, Sylvie had been too distraught to care about Lincoln and Evelyn's plot, but after some months, when she decided to give it a try, she discovered Lincoln was no longer in the Group. He wasn't even in the country anymore, neither was Evelyn. Sylvie couldn't get any hint on his whereabouts or why they had fled, but she didn't have the time to worry about it. As long as Kage was safe. Westley came out of jail a year ago, but they had been no further news about him.

For four years, Sylvie couldn't care deeply about anyone. The loss of her twins ran deep and she had suddenly felt no one mattered.

With her glass empty, she reached for another from a passing waiter, hoping the people around her couldn't see the slight tremble in her hand. "It's funny how they all swoon over him, acting blind to who he truly is," the

man beside her said.

Now, he didn't sound like he was joking.

Sylvie's brows furrowed. "What dirty things are you talking about?"

He chuckled, drinking from his glass. "Oh, don't let me bore you at such a lively event, honey. Why don't you enjoy the party?"

With a warm smile, he tapped her on the shoulder and walked away

Sylvie continued staring at his departing figure until he disappeared into a corner. Lazily, she dragged her eyes away, his words replaying in her head.

Dirty things? What

dirty things had Kage done? How dangerous had he become?

She lifted her eyes to look at him again, and all the breath ran from her lungs.

Her mouth fell open in shock, her eyes rounded and she almost took a step if she hadn't been too frozen at the spot. Staring at t her from across the room was Kage. He had seen her! He was looking at her!
