My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0387

Chapter 0387

Due to inertia, Candice subconsciously reached out and grabbed his arm. Alex shot her a cold glance, then stood up as well.

He stood behind her, his palm securely supporting her arm to prevent her from stumbling again.

The two of them were close enough for her to feel the movement of his chest when he spoke, his deep voice tinged with coldness.

"Your so-called fatherly love is truly eye-opening."

Henry was fuming when he heard that, but upon making eye contact with Alex, he trembled slightly.

He then shifted his gaze back to Candice before regaining his fierce demeanor. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

He sternly reminded Candice, "What are you talking about, Candy? Do you think I'm doing this for myself? I'm doing it for your own—"

Their conversation was interrupted by the opening and subsequent forceful closing of the private room door.

Unable to bear it any longer, Candice pulled Alex out of the room.

Henry's self-righteousness had left her speechless. This feeling was even more unbearable than when Yvonne came to look for her.

Once Candice was out of the private room, she walked briskly to the hotel lobby before stopping.

She clutched her chest, feeling as if it were stuffed with cotton, making it difficult to breathe.

She only realized she had been holding onto Alex's arm the whole time when she slowly regained her composure.

Alex remained silent as he stood beside her.

Slowly releasing her grip, Candice heaved a sigh and uttered softly, "I'm sorry for tonight..."

She tried to organize her thoughts but found herself at a loss for words. Eventually, she swallowed what she wanted to say and just frowned in contemplation.

After a moment, she spoke up again. "Go back to the hotel. If Henry comes to look for you again, just make it clear to him."

The matters between her and Henry were indeed none of Alex's concern.

Alex's eyes flickered, and he looked deeply into Candice's eyes.

"Make it clear to him? Even if I tell him everything, do you think he'll stop bothering you?"

Candice unconsciously raised her gaze to meet Alex's.

The air seemed to freeze for a moment, and she could see the darkness in his eyes.

Candice didn't know how to respond to Alex's words. In fact, she agreed with what he said.

Considering Henry's actions so far, it was hard to imagine what he might do next. It probably wouldn't be much different from what Alex had said.

Candice didn't want to think of Henry in a negative light, but he was no longer the same man she used to know.

She moved her lips, intending to speak, but she suddenly felt a pain in her abdomen.

Her face turned pale, and cold sweat appeared on her forehead.

Alex immediately noticed Candice's subtle change in expression as she held her stomach.

Realizing what was going on, he reached out to support her shoulder, his tone resolute as he said, "Sawyer is outside. We’ll take you to the hospital."

Candice didn't refuse. She knew that something was wrong with her body, and she couldn't take it lightly especially now that she was pregnant.

Fortunately, it was not during the rush hour, and the trip to the hospital took little time.

Sawyer had arranged for a private hospital, where Candice underwent various examinations.

The nurse took Candice back to the room to rest after all the procedures, and that was when the doctor came with the examination results.

These days, Candice had been tensed and unable to rest well. Combined with the fatigue and emotional turmoil, she needed proper bed rest to ensure the safety of her unborn baby.

Before leaving, the doctor assumed Alex was Candice's husband and gave him detailed instructions.

“She’s very weak now, so don’t agitate her and let her get plenty of rest. She should stay in bed as much as possible and avoid exertion.”

Once the doctor left, Candice spoke while rubbing her temples, “Thanks for taking me to the hospital.”

She knew that if it weren’t for Alex, she probably wouldn’t have gotten to the hospital so quickly.

Alex, who flipped through her examination reports, looked up at her and said, "Take a leave from the summit."

Candice didn’t answer. She had heard the doctor saying that she was weak and required rest.

In fact, these past few days, she had been on edge every day, feeling as if someone was following her.

There was a constant sense of insecurity, making it impossible for her to rest properly.

However, she couldn’t simply skip the summit. It was originally not scheduled for a long time, but due to various factors such as clashing with Redshade Corporation’s event, it had been extended to two weeks.

Before she came, everyone, including Hanley and others, had high expectations for her. Candice didn't want to let everyone down and miss this opportunity.

She furrowed her eyebrows slightly, clearly showing her reluctance.

Meanwhile, Alex glanced at Sawyer beside him and said, "Grab some light dinner."

Henry had claimed he was buying them dinner, but in reality, he had only given them a pointless lecture. Nobody even touched the food.

Candice looked up at Alex, saying, "You should have dinner on your way back. I'll rest here by myself."

Sawyer hadn't left yet. He looked at Alex hesitatingly and, upon seeing Alex's gaze, left the ward.

Alex shifted his gaze back to Candice's face and casually took a seat on the nearby couch. He asked, "Do you not know about the relationship between Sawyer and my grandfather?"

He continued, "When Sawyer first joined the headquarters, my grandfather was still in charge, and he personally trained Sawyer."

Candice was taken aback. She had no idea.

However, it all made sense now. Even though they were in Solaris, Shawn seemed to be well- informed about everything happening between them.

She chose not to dwell on it.

Alex stayed back probably because he didn't want Sawyer to report things back to Shawn.

Unable to do much about the current situation, Candice closed her eyes to get some rest.

She napped for quite a while. When she woke up, a table had been set with food on the coffee table. Alex was on the couch, working on his laptop.

Hearing movement from the bed, he raised his head. The weariness in his eyes disappeared instantly.

"You’re awake."

Candice responded with a hum. "Why didn't you wake me up?" she asked.

"Sleep is a form of recovery."

The meal was light. Candice took a few bites and felt that the food wasn't particularly nice.

Alex barely ate as well. When he finished tidying up and prepared to leave, Candice's phone rang. It was a call from Hanley.

Looking at the dark sky outside the window, Candice answered the call, attempting to conceal her exhaustion and frailty.

"Why are you calling so late?"

Hanley said, "My flight was moved forward. I'll be in Solaris tomorrow."

Candice was taken aback. "Why did it get moved forward?"

"They changed the time for the order." Hanley detected the hesitation in her voice and asked, "Do you not want me to come to Solaris?"
