My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0358

Chapter 0358

Darius stood by the green plants against the wall. He was barely in his twenties, and despite his cold demeanor, his face still carried a hint of youthful vigor. The warm light in the corridor illuminated him, making his eyes, similar to Candice's, appear even deeper.

Candice's steps faltered as she approached. She lowered her gaze for a moment before looking at Darius calmly. "Darius... Renault." She enunciated each syllable, especially emphasizing the "Renault."

There was no change in Darius's expression. He looked at Candice silently, his eyes carrying the same indifference as they did that day in the hotel.

Despite the bustling corridor and the music drifting in from the dance floor outside, the space between Candice and Darius was filled with silence. Both of them refrained from speaking further, yet they could both see a familiar shadow on each other's faces.

Darius lifted his eyelids slightly. The coldness in his eyes seemed boundless as he looked at Candice. "Henry often mentioned you."

A flicker appeared between Candice's eyebrows. "Is that so?"

"He loves you very much." The word "love" was clearly spoken, but the young man's flat tone made Candice unable to discern any warmth from his words. Instead, it left Candice with a sense of indescribable oppression.

Her eyelashes trembled slightly. Suppressing her emotions, she asked Darius, "Did you recognize me from the start?" Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

Darius did not conceal anything. "I've seen your photos." His tone was very calm, so Candice could not see the hint of mockery hidden in his eyes. However, what she could tell was that Darius did not

come to her to confirm her identity.

On the contrary, he exuded a faint sense of detachment, coupled with a condescending scrutiny.

Meeting Darius's gaze, Candice asked, "You didn't wait here just to tell me this, did you?"

Darius raised an eyebrow slightly, then casually plucked a green leaf from the nearby plant. Holding the leaf between his slender fingers, he toyed with it for a moment, seeming to find it uninteresting, and then tossed it into the pot of the plant beside him. "No, I just wanted to take a look."

"What are you looking—"

Before Candice could finish her sentence, she saw a figure approaching from behind Darius in the corridor.

Expressionless, Alex came over and stood in front of Candice. "Redshade has modified some new regulations at the last minute. It's better to adjust the data as soon as possible."

Interrupted by him, Candice had to hold back the question she wanted to ask Darius. She looked up at Alex, frowning.

However, Alex's gaze had already moved to Darius. His dark eyes carried an emotion which Candice couldn’t decipher. He was frowning and his tone was a little cold. "Solomon doesn't seem to be very satisfied with the Aether-Quimby cooperation. Mr. Renault, you better put in some effort."

Darius lowered his gaze as he casually replied, "Why are you so bothered about him?"

Alex laughed humorlessly. "I don't like surprises."

Darius swept him a glance without much expression, turned around and went back to the private room. When he turned around, he did not even glance at Candice, as if he had totally forgotten she

existed.

Candice only looked at Alex when Darius’ figure had disappeared entirely. Alex' emotions had already recovered to the usual casual, light mood and he swept a glance at Candice, his voice faint. "He's gone."

Candice followed him out. It had rained in Solaris just two days ago and the temperature dropped substantially.

The moment they got into the car, Alex did not say a word, only shutting his eyes to rest.

Candice replayed the scene where Darius talked to her twice.

"Don't get too close to Darius." Alex suddenly spoke up, interrupting her thoughts.

Candice looked at him. The window of the hired car was clear and the dazzling neon lights shone through on Alex' face, making her unable to see his expression clearly.

Alex had drunk with Solomon tonight and his body was covered in a faint scent of alcohol.

Candice looked at his side profile. "Why can I not interact with him?"

"It's for your own good." Alex' voice was low and coarse.

Candice recalled how Alex had intentionally interrupted Solomon's words and how he had coincidentally appeared before her and Darius. She lowered her gaze but asked after some hesitation. "Did you long know about my relationship with Darius. Is that why you intentionally stopped me?"

Alex did not immediately reply. He opened his eyes lazily to look at Candice's side profile from the rearview mirror. He scoffed. "Do you think other people have bad eyesight?"

That was true.

Candice and Darius' eyes were like Henry's. And when Henry was young, he was a well-known young man with talent in the neighborhood. Although Candice looked more like Yvonne, in the end, her features still carried the shadow of Henry.

She pinched her temples, feeling a headache coming on.

"Darius is not the good little brother you imagine." After a moment of silence, Alex spoke up again in a neutral tone. His eyes were closed, feigning sleep, but his words were spoken very clearly. "He's a person who was born in the lower class and managed to control the Quimby family within a few years. Candice, you're naive. Darius is no fool."

Alex's words startled Candice. When she initially paid attention to the Solaris market, she had heard about the Quimby family. But hearing Alex's cautious words indicated how formidable Darius's methods were.

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions, Candice whispered to Alex after a moment, "So why did you try to stop me?"

A deep emotion flashed in Alex's dark eyes. The tips of his fingers, resting on his legs, moved imperceptibly. After a while, his Adam's apple rolled as he spoke. "Just afraid it might cause delays to the cooperation between Aether and the Quimby family."

Redshade's sudden change in rules caught Candice off guard. She called Hanley as soon as she returned to the hotel. This matter had not been made public yet, and had only been disclosed to a few people in advance.

Upon hearing about it, Hanley was not surprised. "Redshade pulls this stunt every year. At least we still have plenty of time to make adjustments."

"Will we be affected?" Candice asked.

"No worries, we can make it in time."

After finishing the work-related discussion, Hanley thought of something else and asked Candice. "Yana said she sent her friend to Solaris to find you?"

Candice responded with an affirmative sound, not paying much attention.

Hanley continued, "Yana said he's coming to pretend to be your boyfriend—"

Candice paused, feeling somewhat embarrassed by Hanley's questioning. She could only reply with a forced tone. "Yana is just being ridiculous."

"Yeah, that's just her personality."

Candice breathed a sigh of relief, and hurriedly brought up another matter to change the subject. "Aether also participated in Redshade's tender. Alex should be meaning to cooperate with Burning Star again—"

Just as Mr. Franklyn said, Aether cooperating with Burning Star again would actually save a lot of trouble. Candice had thought Hanley would agree readily.

But unexpectedly, after a moment's pause, he did not mention this topic, but instead asked Candice, "Did he deliberately make things difficult for you again?"

"No."

"Aether is one of the investors in this summit, and Alex is also in Solaris." Hanley gave a barely perceptible bitter laugh. "Candy, promise me, stay away from him, okay?"
