Chapter 0323
Chapter 0323
Candice held her phone and quietly watched Alex. After all, having worked for so many years, she wasn't completely clueless. When she sensed something was amiss last night, she took advantage of a moment while calling Yana to casually turn on the recording function.
Originally, she intended to gather evidence against Xavier, but unexpectedly, she had ended up with evidence against Sonia and Francis.
Looking at the remaining 21% battery on her phone, she had already opened the file transfer assistant and sent the recording over for safekeeping.
Alex's shirt wasn't fully buttoned, and his prominent Adam's apple was still faintly visible. The thin dawn light illuminated him from behind, making it hard for Candice to discern his expression.
She could only hear his voice, "Why should I testify for you?"
His tone was casual without taking it too seriously.
Candice paused, not surprised. She was suing Sonia, and it would be strange for Alex to assist her. But it didn't matter.
She raised her eyebrows, the charming look in her eyes from last night replaced by a calm demeanor. Her voice was slightly hoarse but resolute. "I'm just informing you that this evidence is sufficient." Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Her gaze fell on the phone, and she chuckled lightly, "She was foolish to say everything herself."
Candice still felt a bit sore. She slowed down and sat on the sofa.
The room still carried a sticky smell that hadn't completely dissipated. She subtly furrowed her brow. Even if she appeared indifferent on the surface, she couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable
inside, especially with Alex standing there.
A moment of silence passed, and Alex didn't respond.
Until a short ringtone interrupted the silence.
Candice looked up at Alex, who paused briefly before answering the call.
Being some distance away, she couldn't hear what the matter was, but she could see his expression turning cold after the call.
After the call ended, Alex directly looked at Candice. "There's work at the company. I'm leaving."
Candice acknowledged with a sound and didn't say much.
The strained peace between the two wasn't enough to encourage further communication.
After a slight pause, Alex bent down to pick up his coat and walked straight toward the door.
Candice watched his tall figure. With drooping eyelids, she said, "Alex."
Alex paused and looked over.
She remained calm and spoke after a brief silence, "Last night was just an accident. Can I ask you not to tell anyone about it?"
It was one thing for her to be candid, but spreading it around wouldn't be good.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she finished speaking, Alex's voice, cold and mocking, resounded, "Who are you afraid will find out?"
His deep and gloomy eyes stared at Candice. His thin lips curled upward as he sneered, "Rest assured, I'm not that idle, and besides, you're just like that."
After saying that, Alex left the room.
Candice relaxed a bit, but the room still felt stuffy, and that lingering scent seemed to be haunting her.
After sitting for a while, she got up and went to the window to get some fresh air.
When Yana arrived, the room's scent had mostly dissipated.
Candice, wearing a bathrobe, opened the door for her. She couldn't recall the details of last night, but her original clothes were already unwearable, so she had Yana bring a change.
As soon as Yana arrived, she noticed that something was wrong. She stared at Candice's neck, her eyes full of curiosity.
Candice couldn't ignore Yana's gaze.
She took the clothes Yana handed her and turned to change in the bathroom.
However, the low-cut clothes Yana had brought made the conspicuous marks on her neck plainly visible.
Candice tried to cover them with foundation, but it was futile. She endured the annoyance, cursing Alex in her mind, before finally opening the door and stepping out.
She wanted to act as if nothing had happened, but the kiss marks on her neck were too eye- catching.
Yana exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, was last night so intense for you?"
She stood up, circled around Candice, and made continuous sounds of admiration. "Did you find a younger man? Not bad at all! I knew it; older men can't compete with the charm of younger wolves."
Candice looked at her, "Did Barox tell you?"
Yana immediately jumped up, "Don't talk nonsense. I've known that kid since he was a child; it's not appropriate to say such things."
She draped her arm around Candice's shoulder, appearing conspiratorial. "Well, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. As adults, having certain needs is quite normal. I understand."
Yana's nonsense actually calmed down Candice's originally irritable mood. She nodded.
Yana took off the scarf around her neck and handed it to Candice. "Although I'm very open-minded, it's better for you to cover up a bit. Otherwise, it'll be too conspicuous when you go out."
Candice was momentarily stunned, took the scarf, and whispered, "Thank you."
After leaving the hotel with Yana, it was almost 9 AM. They had breakfast in the hotel before returning to the villa. Only Nadia was there. When she saw Candice returning, she paused for a moment and said, "Candice, where did you go last night? The boss called you, but you didn't answer."
Candice replied, "There was something urgent."
Nadia responded with an "Oh" and didn't inquire any further.
"What's wrong?" Candice asked.
"Nothing. It rained last night, and since you hadn't returned, I was worried and thought of picking you up," Nadia said, hesitating for a moment. "Last night, the boss went to the hotel where you and
Mr. Warner had dinner, but he couldn't find you, so he was a bit worried."
Thinking about the situation from last night, Candice hesitated for a moment before saying, "The situation last night was a bit complicated. Xavier was also there, and later, Sonia brought Francis. I discovered something was amiss, so I went to rest upstairs in the hotel."
After hearing this, Nadia was stunned. "Is Sonia crazy?"
Yana was also shocked. Candice hadn't told her about this on their way back.
However, considering that Candice still concealed some details, Yana wasn't surprised. After all, in such situations, nobody wanted to reveal too much.
Yana joined Nadia in thoroughly cursing Sonia and Xavier. After the scolding, Yana said, "She's capable of such despicable acts. You must not let her off the hook."
Candice nodded. "I recorded it."
Given Sonia's repeated crossing of her boundaries, Candice couldn't let her off easily. Moreover, the matter of Sonia inciting Yvonne and Ivor to harm Joe hadn't been resolved yet.
As she was contemplating these issues in her mind, the front door was suddenly pushed open, and Hanley and Ryan entered one after the other, both wearing serious expressions.
Seeing Candice, Hanley's cold demeanor softened for a moment, and he asked in a low voice, "When did you come back?"
