Chapter 31 Eva’s Past
“Mr. Livingstone, what are you doing, why haven’t you slept at this late hour?” As she found that Caleb’s face became sullen little by little, Eva changed the topic, although she did not know why he was in an upset mood, but that topic would upset him more if it continued.
“Get the water.” Caleb said coldly.
Eva hurriedly gave way to the entrance of the stairs and said, “Go ahead then, Mr. Livingstone, or shall I go pour it for you?”
Probably Eva herself could not have imagined that she would still be such a coward. When she was studying abroad, she once lived in the slums when she was in the most difficult time, and she had never been timid in the face of all kinds of hooligans and gangsters, but in the face of Caleb, who always looked cool and noble and released a cold air at all times, she could not help but be cowardly.
“Go to bed early.” Caleb said indifferently, without the slightest thought of talking about that matter.
“Okay, good night, Mr. Livingstone.” Eva went upstairs to her room, whispering a good night to Caleb before closing the door.
“Good night.” Caleb’s voice was low and magnetic.
Eva couldn’t fall asleep for a long time, tossing and turning in bed, thinking about the recent events.
‘What the hell did Caleb mean? Did he take me for William’s medicine or was he trying to flirt with me?’
‘He’s a billionaire, but he wants to flirt with me? What is his problem?’
‘Ahhhhhhh, when can I get out of here? It is annoying.’
Eva had an unfettered thought, from the moment she met William at the bar, her life was not right, a series of changes hit her by surprise. She didn’t want to get involved with Caleb at all, she just wanted to shoot in peace and quiet and then screw Sheila, something like marring into a rich family never occurred to her mind.
It was true that Caleb was a good helper to enable her to take revenge soon, to return all the aggression and injustice she had suffered for so many years to Sheila, and to avenge her child who left before he could take a look at the world.
But she didn’t trust any man, men are all untrustworthy, Brody Gallagher was like this, her father Morgan was also like this. He acted he was in love with Penelope Gordon, but behind her back, he had kept many mistresses.
“Forget it, sleep. Everything will be fine!” Eva spent an hour in the unbelievably comfortable big bed, struggling to come to any conclusion but failed, and finally giving up on her thoughts, falling to sleep.
She never knew that Caleb was not working until twelve o’clock, and that appearing at the stairway was not because he went downstairs to get water as he said. She also didn’t know that Caleb knew about the news on Twitter at the first place and that he was the one who was working behind the scenes for the removal of the news.
Because of the late night of shooting and the long tossing and turning in bed, Eva could only go to the set the next day with two dark circles under her eyes.
“Oh my god! What did you do yesterday, did you go and steal a man, Eva? How am I supposed to do your makeup with such dark circles under your eyes? The director is going to scold me, I am screwed.” The make-up artist said anxiously.
Eva looked at the make-up artist apologetically, “Use some concealer to cover it up, I promise it won’t happen again! There was a lot going on yesterday.”
“I’m really impressed with you, what a big deal, and you can’t sleep! When you become popular, more people will scold you with more harsh words. You don’t have to sleep afterwards if you take it to heart.” The make-up artist moved quickly, and her mouth kept nagging.
To those who had been in the circle for a long time, what happened yesterday was nothing. It would be unlucky if there was no news about you, so no matter it was good or bad, news means that you had attention and you can have a play.
“Thank you, I hope I can be popular.” Eva said.
Eva was not angry because of the online fling abuses. She opened her mouth to explain, but in the end she could not say anything. Because she didn’t even know why she was in this situation, she couldn’t say anything.
At the same time, Caleb’s assistant Luke Pearce found out that the person who gave the money to the paparazzi was none other than Eva’s agent Renee.
“Mr. Livingstone, Miss Sommers’ agent was behind this…” Luke was indecisive and came to ask Caleb for advice.
“What about the information on Eva that you were asked to investigate earlier?” Caleb asked.
“Here it is, Mr. Livingstone.” Luke immediately handed over a second document.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
“You can go out.” Caleb waved his hand for Luke to go out, put down the urgent document in his hand, and began to look through Eva’s information.
He seldom paid attention to gossip, but back then when Eva returned to the Sommers family, it made a lot of noise, so he had heard about it, but he was busy with a large merger and acquisition case. When he got time, she suddenly disappeared in Hartvenport; therefore, he failed to find her.
Yesterday, when he asked Luke to look into the matter exposed by the paparazzi, he incidentally investigated Eva as well. He wanted to know everything about Eva’s past, good or bad.
Caleb opened the first page of the document, which was a picture of Eva when she was five years old. Looking at the little girl smiling with an innocent face in the picture, the corners of Caleb’s mouth involuntarily rose slightly.
Only the further he flipped, the soberer his face became.
When Eva was 17 years old, she returned to the Sommers family for her parents found that they had raised the wrong daughter. But when she returned home, she was not loved by Morgan and Penelope, but Sheila, who had been raised in the Sommers family without blood ties was favored.
She then got together with Brody. Five years ago, when Eva was 20 years old, she broke up with Brody and stayed in hospital for a while because of depression. But when she was discharged from the hospital, she met with a car accident and then disappeared from Hartvenport.
Luke investigated her affairs abroad, but still couldn’t find out everything. All he knew was that she had gone to a diploma mill in the US and after a year of muddling through, she suddenly rose to the occasion and studied for her own sake and finally got into a prestigious Ivy League university. She spent the next two years studying, but instead of returning to her home country for her annual holidays, she went to Italy.
The matter in Italy had not yet been checked out by Luke, so there was a gap for a while.
When she returned to the US from Italy, she was accompanied by a man who lived in a slum where there were many hooligans and thugs. Once Eva returned late from a job and was blocked by a group of hooligans with the intention of misbehaving, the man appeared and together with Eva fought off the thugs.
It didn’t take long for the man to disappear around her afterwards, and Luke couldn’t find out the man’s identity no matter how much he checked.
When she was in the US, Eva worked at all kinds of jobs, handing out flyers, washing dishes in hotels, walking dogs for others, and working part-time except for studying.
As he was listening to Luke’s report, Caleb’s face was getting gloomier and gloomier.
