Chapter 445 He's Back
Chapter 445 He's Back
Rachel felt like she was slowly carried by the wind to a strange place. She landed in a small room where a lot of people gathered. Lea and Henry were there. Jonathan and Tracy, together with James, were also there. Aside from them, there were also other people that she knew. It seemed that everyone who became a part of her life gathered in this room today.
She called out their names, but every time she opened her mouth, there was no voice coming out. All of them seemed not to notice her presence in the room. They continued to chat with each other, completely ignoring her. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
All of a sudden, the door opened.
A man and a woman, together with a little boy between them, walked in. Although she couldn't see their faces clearly, she could tell that the boy's height reached the woman's waist.
As soon as Jonathan saw them, a bright smile appeared on his face. He waved at the little boy and said, "Come to Grandpa."
Rachel was stunned upon hearing what Jonathan said.
Since the boy was his grandson, it meant that he was Jack's child.
She suddenly got curious who could his wife be.
She strode across the room to get closer to them. But when she got near them, she still couldn't see both the little boy's and the woman's faces clearly.
With a bitter smile on her face, she suddenly realized that it wasn't necessary to see their faces. Whoever the woman was had nothing to do with her, after all.
She turned around to leave when she suddenly heard Lea's voice. "Scarlett, are you free tomorrow afternoon? Our favorite brand will launch their new products tomorrow. Let's go and check them out."
Hearing Scarlett's name felt like a bucket of ice was poured into her heart. She was so disheartened. But still, she tried to comfort herself by thinking that she felt depressed not because Jack married Scarlett or because they had a child. She felt sad because Lea, who was her best friend, and Scarlett, became good friends all of a sudden.
They were too close that they even went shopping together.
How did it happen? She couldn't tell.
Rachel felt that she once floated into the air. But all of a sudden, the wind that had been tightly holding her vanished. As a result, she fell down with a thud. As soon as her body twitched, she woke up. When she touched her forehead, she found out that it was wet with sweat.
Since the moonlight seeped through the window, the room was bright enough for her to see that Jack wasn't there anymore. A bitter smile appeared on her face upon thinking that he must have gone back to Scarlett since it was already late.
But, wasn't it what she wanted? Every time Jack came home, she always pushed him to leave.
Because of her strange dream, Rachel couldn't go back to sleep. She closed her eyes, but her mind was wide awake. It was already six o'clock in the morning when her eyelids felt heavy again and she fell asleep. Because of it, she didn't know that Jack gently pushed her bedroom door open to look at her. He then turned around and left with relief.
Actually, he didn't leave last night. He stayed in the study next door, searching for some information online about the late stage of pregnancy.
"Achoo!"
Scarlett sneezed. But when she saw that the gates opened, she quickly got out of the taxi. Seeing Jack's car coming out, she ran in front and spread her arms to stop it.
Fortunately, Jack was swift enough to step on the brakes. When he saw Scarlett come and open the door of the passenger seat, his brows creased. He asked, "Why are you here?"
"I have been waiting for you." Scarlett sat in and wrapped her arms around her shoulders. With tears in her eyes, she looked at him and said, "Jack, my coat and my bag were left in your car.
I can't go back home. I waited for you all night here outside."
Jack looked back and saw her stuff on the back seat. Without saying anything, he started the car again.
When they reached Scarlett's apartment, Jack went straight to the kitchen to get a glass of water. He then went back to the living room and handed it to her.
Although he was wearing a straight face all the time, Scarlett still felt warm in her heart when she took the glass of water from him. She couldn't restrain the tears of joy from welling up in her eyes, thinking that he finally started to care about her.
The water was tasteless, but when she drank it, it tasted like honey for her.
However, her daydreaming was cut short upon seeing Jack coming out of the bedroom with a suitcase. She put down the glass, rushed to him, and asked incredulously, "Jack, are you going on a business trip?"
"I'm going home," Jack replied in a low voice. He threw a certificate on the table and added, "I've asked my lawyer to register this house in your name. Consider this as additional compensation from
me. Our agreement is over now."
"What!?" Scarlett couldn't believe her ears. "Jack, did I do something wrong? Tell me. I can definitely change it."
Jack frowned and said coldly, "No."
"Then why are you terminating our agreement all of a sudden?" Scarlett didn't want Jack to leave, but she didn't dare to hold his hand, so she just held his suitcase tightly.
A trace of disgust suddenly flashed through Jack's eyes. Obviously, he didn't like what Scarlett did. His voice sounded colder when he spoke again. "Scarlett, before we signed the agreement, I made it clear to you that I can end it anytime I want."
"I know. But at that time, I wasn't in love with you yet," Scarlett cried hysterically.
She was well aware that if she let him leave today, she would never have a chance to be near him again in the future.
With tearful eyes, she looked up at him and said pitifully, "After being with you these days, I have already fallen in love with you. Jack, you can't be so cruel to me."
Jack narrowed his eyes and said, "Scarlett, I know what you have been doing these days. If you don't let me go now, I'll make sure to make you pay for all the money you spent on your cousin and your father. I will also take this house back immediately."
Scarlett was rendered speechless.
Her sobs stopped in an instant as she stared at him in horror. Her hands that were tightly holding the suitcase loosened slowly, and she just watched him leave.
She felt like her legs lost their strength. She knelt on the floor and cried with all her might. Since Jack had never mentioned anything about money, she thought that he didn't know where she was spending it. She couldn't pay that money back, so she had no choice but to let him go.
Rachel was home today. Due to her sudden vomiting yesterday and lack of sleep, she asked for a day off.
She sat on the sofa and gently rubbed her belly with one hand, feeling the baby's movements from time to time. Every time she felt her baby moving, all her sadness faded away.
She was saying something to her baby when she heard the sound of a suitcase being dragged on the floor. As she looked up, she was surprised to see Jack standing at the door. She was stunned for a moment, but when she came back to her senses, she asked foolishly, "Why are you here?"
"This is my home," Jack replied in a low voice. He put the suitcase in the corner, took off his suit, and sat on the sofa. With a smile, he added, "What's wrong? Can't I go back to my home now?"
Rachel didn't answer. She just glanced at him then looked away.
She didn't know the reason, but she couldn't deny that her heart felt joyous. However, she did her best to suppress it, so it wouldn't show.
To avoid spending more time with Jack, she stood up and went back to her room. She took out her phone and sent a message to Lea. "He's back."
The message was sent on an impulse. So when she remembered Lea's temper, she was anxious to cancel it. However, it was already sent successfully.
Lea replied quickly, "Have you reconciled?"
Rachel bit her lower lip and replied, "No."
"Then why is he back so soon? Humph! Is he tired of his mistress? He must have finally realized that nothing compares to a real family. Just ignore him."
While reading Lea's messages, Rachel could imagine her best friend's facial expression while typing those words. She couldn't help chuckling. Her gloomy mood suddenly turned bright.
Earlier, she was really wondering why Jack had suddenly come back. But now, she realized that it wasn't worth her time and energy.
To stop thinking about it too much, she decided to change the topic by asking Lea's physical condition.
Kailey was about to ring the doorbell when she noticed that the door was slightly ajar. Thinking that there might be some robbers inside, she nervously pushed it open.
She went to the kitchen to look for something she could use as a weapon. But she was surprised to see Scarlett on the floor like a puppet with a pair of dull eyes. She screamed and rushed over.
Scarlett was still wearing the same black dress she wore yesterday, so Kailey got more worried. "Scarlett, did you drink too much last night? Have you just woken up?"
Scarlett didn't answer. Even the expression on her face didn't change. She was still looking at the emptiness.
This time, Kailey felt more scared. She shook Scarlett's shoulders and called her name several times. It was only then that Scarlett came to her senses. She wiped her face carelessly and pretended that nothing happened. "Why are you here?" Author's note
