CHAPTER 27
Chapter 27 He Doesn’t Deserve to Know
Jessie then headed to the hospital. John was looking at her as she came in alone. Her shadow was portrayed on the ground, and it looked lonely.
He suppressed the pity that he had towards her, asking gently, “Are you afraid?”
“I was, but seeing you makes me calm.”
“Don’t worry. I prepared the medication myself. I’ll make sure to minimise the discomfort and make sure they work at the same time.”
“Thank you, John.”
Jessie felt as if she was in hell as soon as she was admitted to the ward. This was the first time she had seen so many patients in one place. They were either wearing a wig or a hat.
e elderly men were walking around with their bald heads. Most of the wards
filled with patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Some were crying, and some were staring out of the window blankly.
Jessie knew that she would be part of them in no time. She would lose hope in life.
Her steps were heavier the further she walked.
John arranged a single room for her. A nurse came up to her and asked politely as she arrived, “Ms. Summers? Doctor Limberg informed us about you. Please come with me to get prepared and also get a family member to help with the registration and payment at the counter.”
Family member?
Indeed, all the patients in the hospital were accompanied by one or two family members of their own. But she came alone. The people around the ward were looking at her pitifully, as she had to brave through the illness and chemotherapy by herself.
Jessie bit her lip in awkwardness and said, “I don’t have a family member with me. But I can get a caretaker.”

and she then continued asking, “How about a spouse? Parents? Or siblings?”
Jessie stood still, feeling helpless. She was all alone, like a small child abandoned by her parents.
John stepped forward and said, “I am her family member. I’ll sign the paperwork.”
Jessie looked at him gratefully. John nodded to her and went straight to the counter to help with her admission.
The nurse explained patiently, “Ms. Summers, you will have to go through the chemotherapy for quite some time. The medications will be injected through your blood vessels, and this will cause some pressure on the vessels and, in some cases, medication leakage. So we’ll have to insert a tube in your arm to help minimise these scenarios.”
“This will help facilitate the medication being delivered smoothly to your system. And it can be used for quite some time, so you don’t have to undergo another tube insertion for the next chemotherapy session. It is safe and convenient. But the
nside is that you can’t lift heavy objects with the arm after the insertion.”
Jessie agreed to the nurse’s proposal and inserted the tube through a minor surgery before undergoing chemotherapy.
She was immune to the anaesthesia. But when her arm was cut open during the surgery, she was just frowning but did not make any sound.
The doctor performing surgery said, “Very few girls can endure pain like you did.”
Jessie answered, “No one cares about me. Who would even care if I couldn’t endure it?”
She recalled the time when she was alone in the hospital undergoing abortion surgery six months ago. Chase, at the same time, was with Linda, who had just given birth to a twin.
What was this pain compared to the pain she felt before?
The side effects of medications were showing up the next day after the chemotherapy session. Jogn was helping her with the discharge matter.
Jessie needed to take some breaks from the ward to the basement car park. It was such a short distance, but she couldn’t help but feel dizzy.

John let out a sigh, and then he lifted her from the ground. Jessie was taken aback by his act. “John, don’t …
John did not listen to her. His voice was stern. “You are very weak now. I’ll have to call your family member if you don’t want my help, and Chase is your only family member, am I right?” Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
“You knew?” Jessie was surprised at the fact that he knew. She never told him anything about her husband.
John nodded. “I saw everything that day by the river. He is not a good husband.”
Jessie found it extremely ironic. They were not legally divorced. So, Chase was still legally her husband and was her only family member.
“He doesn’t deserve to know.”
She was already in a mess. Chase would only be happier if he found out that she had cancer. She didn’t want to be a subject for him to make fun of.
