Mr. Thompson

CHAPTER 21

Mr Thompson. Please Be Gentle

Chapter 21 The Hope of Survival

Jessie spent quite some time at the tomb before finally leaving. She couldn’t afford to dwell in sadness. She needed to continue her investigation using the photo she obtained.

The picture of Rachel was from when she was just five or six years old. There would be a big difference in her appearance over a decade later. Relying solely on that photo to track her down would be tough. Otherwise, the Thompson family wouldn’t have failed to find her.

But Jessie wasn’t about to give up on this rare lead. Since Chase claimed his sister died because of Peter, her father, she believed that by looking into the women in their twenties her father interacted with, she might find some clues!

Jessie reached out to a private investigator, sending over Rachel’s photo and some details, feeling a renewed sense of determination.

When she returned to the hospital, the attending doctor called her into the office.

Jessie felt a knot form in her stomach. Her voice trembling with worry. “How’s my dad? When will he wake up?”

“Jessie, you need to brace yourself. While your father’s surgery was successful, he sustained a head injury in the car accident and was further affected. There’s a chance… he might never regain consciousness.”

Jessie’s heart sank at his words, her hand shaking as she held onto a disposable cup.

Seeing Jessie’s expression, John also felt a touch of emotion and sighed resignedly. “Jessie, don’t lose hope. I’m just saying there’s a chance. If your father wakes up by the end of this month, everything will be okay.”

Jessie’s eyes clouded with despair, her voice trembling. “If he doesn’t wake up, he’ll be in a vegetative state, right?”

“That’s how it is, unfortunately. So I hope you can prepare yourself mentally and start planning early.”

John knew Jessie worked hard to earn money, and it wasn’t necessary to spend it all on someone in a vegetative state.

won’t give up on my father. I believe in miracles.”

Jessie never imagined things could get this bad. If her father remained unconscious, the truth would be lost forever.

But she couldn’t just give up like that!

“Please help me. Whether it’s chemotherapy or surgery, I just want to live a little longer.”

She knew that only by staying alive could she uncover the truth and spend more time with her father.

John didn’t know what had sparked Jessie’s newfound hope to survive, but as a doctor, he was glad to see it.

“Great. I’ll schedule your first round of chemotherapy right away.”

To prevent her condition from worsening, John arranged for the first round of chemotherapy to begin the day after tomorrow.

Chemotherapy came with a lot of side effects. During the first two weeks after treatment, Jessie would feel extremely weak and experience hair loss, so she needed to settle everything in advance.

With her father still showing no signs of waking up, at least she didn’t have to worry about medical bills. After sorting out another payment, she headed back home.

She had planned to move out after finalizing her divorce with Chase. But with all the unexpected events, she ended up staying for two more days.

Thinking about her upcoming chemotherapy, moving out would be even harder. So Jessie decided not to wait any longer and called a moving company.

Jessie’s best friend, Olivia, arrived looking sharp in a suit, with a bag slung over her shoulder and heels clicking as she rushed over.

From a distance, her loud voice could be heard. “Girl, you’re finally breaking free! Just got my commission from selling that house last month. Tonight, I’m treating you to Sugar Boy Club.”

Olivia had been absent for the past week as she had flown overseas to meet her Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org

boyfriend, so she was unaware of Jessie’s condition. She simply thought Jessie had finally come to her senses and decided to get a divorce.

Jessie chuckled. “No way. If your man finds out you’re hitting up Sugar Boy Club tonight, he’ll probably fly over here to confront me.”

“Don’t even get me started. I’ve lost faith in true love. I wanted to give him a surprise, but guess what? He blew all the commission I earned with my sweat and tears to keep another woman.”

Olivia cursed loudly, tears betraying her pain. Seven years of love had crumbled under the strain of distance.

Jessie wanted to offer some comfort, but as she thought about her messy marriage, she felt like a hypocrite. How could she offer solace when she was a sinner?
