Marrying my high school bully

We meet again

Chapter 68

Dexter

Was I dreaming?

I pushed the stripper aside who tried to give me a lap dance after I asked her not to bother, while wondering who trained them.

I made my way through the midst of sweaty bodies, dancing wildly to the songs as if they had no problem to deal with and for a moment I wished to be them.

By the time I could get to the bar, she had already left. My heart was torn into pieces because she had to see such a disgusting sight. Now I have proven to her that I didn’t care which was exactly what she feared.

How could I have chased the woman I’d been having sleepless nights for because of my indecision?

With my shoulders drooped, I decided to go home, having nothing else to do in the club. Then I heard my name from a familiar voice and spun around.

“Stella? What are you doing here?” I asked with a lighter tone as I didn’t want anyone to sense that I was in a dilemma.

She inclined her head, holding back a smile. “Well, I came here to have some fun since this is the weekend already. What about you sir?”

“I came to do the same as well, but at the same time, I did something stupid.” I revealed.

She must have been wondering why I opened up to her, but at this point, I just needed someone who would listen to me like a friend would do.

A problem half shared is half solved, they said.

Mine might not be solved at all, but at least I had someone to listen to me.

“Lorraine left the house last night and I don’t know where she went. By chance, I saw her in the club but she ran out crying.” I admitted, feeling better after spilling out some of the things that had been confined to the walls of my heart.

She said nothing, her face bearing no surprise like I expected. I watched her closely as she averted her gaze from me and started at the shot glass in front of her.

“Do you know about this, Stella?” I treaded carefully.

She scratched her hair with nervousness radiating from her body. “She came to my house last night and I couldn’t push her away. She seemed to be very sad and broken, and she kept crying even when I returned from work today.” She replied.

I raked through my hair, shivers running through my spine as I heard that she’d cried because of me. “And you didn’t bother to tell me that my wife was in your house?” I scolded her, my voice calmer than I expected.

Her face fell. “It’s not in my place to tell, sir. She didn’t want anyone to know where she was, so I had to do her bidding until she was ready to open up to me.” She explained and I saw reasons with her.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

After taking a deep breath, I decided that I had to see Lorraine immediately. “She ran out of the club, do you know where she might be presently?”

“I don’t. I tried to ask her but she was already in tears and eager to leave. I don’t understand why-” Then she flashed a questioning glance at me. “Are you the reason she left?”

She folded her arms, glaring at me. She’d have passed for a mother who was ready to defend their children at all times.

“First of all, I’m your boss so you should know your limits. Secondly, you have to take me to your house right now.” I ordered, leaving no room for argument.

“I don’t think I can do that, sir. Lorraine will be mad at me.” She refused, inclining her head.

I tucked my hands into my pants, putting on an aloof expression. “Well, my dear trainer, get ready to lose your job in less than five minutes because I’ll speak to Stefan and ask him to draw up a dismissal letter. And you know that my agency pays you better than other agencies would do.” I enjoyed the build up of panic that blared on her face. “So make a wise choice. Are you going to show me where you live or not?”

“Lorraine will kill me.” She muttered, snatched her purse and brought out some cash.

I raised my hand sharply. “Don’t worry about the bills, I’ll sort it out. Let’s just go home.” I said with a note of urgency.

I had to clear the wrong perception she had about me tonight, and ensure that she goes home with me. While searching for her, I realised that I could do nothing without her. She was the bane of my existence and she knew it.

After clearing the bills, I went after her. “Let’s go in my car.” I stated curtly but she didn’t make any move to obey me.

“You wouldn’t want Lorraine to know that you are with me, right?” She stated and I nodded, realising that she had a point.

We entered her car and she ignited the engine and drove off. None of us said anything to each other as a thick mass of tension reigned in the car, emitting unbearable moments of silence.

A few moments later, she stopped by a condominium and floored the gas. “My house,” She announced and got out of the car.

I did the same as well. My forehead was creased with sweat and my breathing hitched as we strolled into the house, anticipating what her reaction would be when she sees me.

She opened the door and flipped the switch on. Surprisingly, the house was empty, causing me to hiss in disappointment.

“You made a fool of me?” I barked at her and she flinched.

Trembling visibly, she reached for her phone. “Let me give her a call.”

I rolled my eyes and began to pace to and fro in the living room. I watched her call Lorraine, pleading with her to return home and slowly my anger disappeared. I was transferring my aggression on the wrong person.

“What did she say?” I asked when she got off the phone.

“She’s on her way.” She replied lazily. “Do you want a cup of coffee while you wait for her?” She offered.

“No, I… Ummm… I’m very sorry for how I’ve acted towards you. I’m just so desperate to have her back and it’s messing with my manners. I’m very sorry.” I apologised and she accepted it with a warm smile.

“No hard feelings, sir. You are both very much in love with each other and that’s why you reacted that way. So do you still need the cup of coffee?”

Feeling a bit better but still edgy, I nodded. “Make it strong.”

She left for the kitchen while I kept myself busy with an ongoing show on her television. She lived comfortably for a woman her age and I was very proud of her.

Voices resonated outside the house, and I stilled, listening to the owners. It was a male and a female-Lorraine’s voice.

The door went ajar then she came in, her face puffy and red, yet beautiful. The bubbly feeling of excitement I felt on seeing her vanished into thin air as I saw who her escort was.

Arnold.
