Marrying my high school bully

Searching for Lorraine

Chapter 65

Dexter

“Oh God!” I groaned, forcing my eyes open as the brightness of the room jolted me from my sleep.

I shouldn’t have jerked or made any sharp movement because the effect went straight to my head, causing a banging headache.

What in God’s name happened last night?

Why did I feel like something had gone wrong but I couldn’t do anything?

I stood up slowly, afraid of losing control, then I held onto the edge of the sofa to steady myself. A realisation hit me. I slept on the sofa…!

Lorraine?

My heart skipped a beat. Where was Lorraine?

“Baby,” I called, taking the stairs in twos, eager to get to the bedroom.

She didn’t respond, rather my voice echoed back. I held my breath, barging into the room with my worst fear rising to my throat. What if she had fainted again and I didn’t know?

What if she got sick again?

Several ‘what ifs’ crossed my mind, but it didn’t assuage the panic I felt when I met the bed empty. The sheet was neatly arranged just the way I left it last night…

All the activities of last night began to return to my memory, my chest tightening with fear.

I remembered being dizzy and falling to the ground. I remembered how sullen and remorseful her face was when she told me that she loved me, even though I was barely able to make out what she meant.

No! No! No!

This wasn’t happening.

I pushed open the doors of the wardrobe and my eyes narrowed to her compartment. It was almost empty, save for a few clothes and shoes.

A gasp got stuck in my throat as I ran out of the room to get my cell phone. I dialed her line incessantly, but it went straight to voicemail.

“Pick up, Lorraine!” My voice was tight with worry, yet, none of my calls went through.

The doorbell rang and I stormed towards the door, my heart pounding with expectation. Maybe she didn’t really leave the house, I thought.

My hands twisted the knob, eager to welcome Lorraine back and make sure she never leaves the house without my knowledge.

I hissed loudly as the unwanted visitor flashed me a warm smile. “What in God’s name are you doing here?” I questioned.

Emilia furrowed her brows and ushered herself in. I glanced at her in irritation, and wondered why she would dress like a harlot to visit me.

Her strapless yellow dress clung tightly to her body and the length hung under her butt. Her upper breasts were barely covered by the low neckline which stopped just below her nipples. She should have left them opened as there was no use of covering them.

“I came to see my new friend, is that a crime?” She shrugged and sank onto the sofa I’d slept in.

“Lorraine isn’t your friend, Emilia, so stop looking for excuses to come here because you’re not welcomed.” I hollered at her, unable to control my temper.

“Oh really? But that wasn’t how I felt when I saw her after the runway show two weeks ago. She told me that she had forgiven me and she even agreed to go out for lunch with me. So I came to see her after leaving my boyfriend’s house.” She informed me, crossing her legs while searching around the house. “I’m not hearing her voice, where’s she?”

I needed this woman to leave my house at this minute. Having her around me was a big test of my patience and I wondered why I hadn’t thrown her out yet.

“It’s good you have a boyfriend now, but I’m not sure that he will be happy knowing that his girlfriend is trying to seduce another man’s husband.” My tone was curt and blunt.

Apparently, she didn’t expect me to speak to her in such a manner.

“I’m over you, Dexter.” She retorted sharply, but I could hear the pain in her voice. “Stop thinking so highly of yourself, it’s not like you’re the best in bedroom games.”

I was tempted to laugh, but the need to find Lorraine superseded any other feeling. “It’s good you realised that, so leave now. I have to search for Lorraine.”

She shot me a confused look. “Lorraine is missing?”

“You aren’t supposed to know about it, but now you do and I actually thought she had come back when you knocked.”

The more I spoke with her, the more my irritation increased.

“That’s so sad. Can I help you search for her? I could make a few calls…” She suggested but I shook my head.

“Thank you very much, but I have it under control.”

Under control?

That was a big lie.

My nerves were freaking out, I couldn’t think straight and my temper was unstable. Being away from Lorraine was affecting my sanity and what hurt me the most was the fact that she left me after I pleaded with her not to.

Why couldn’t she understand that I loved her beyond her flaws? That we could adopt children and still have the best marriage we’d both been looking forward to having.NôvelDrama.Org content rights.

“Are you sure about that?” She pushed on, wriggling her largely carved brows at me.

“Yes, but I have a question to ask before you leave.”

She shrugged, advancing towards me with a sultry smirk. Her eyes spoke volumes about how much she wanted me and I couldn’t stop myself from laughing.

“I’m ready to listen to you,” She trailed her fingers from the middle of my chest as she usually did whenever she wanted to seduce me. “Always ready to listen.” She reiterated.

“Your friend won’t be happy that you are trying to seduce her husband.” I warned her with a bored tone.

She licked her lower lip, biting it slowly. “I’m not doing anything wrong. You are tense and I’m trying to help you relieve it.” She whispered.

I decided to cut to the chase. “So, Emilia, you brought pizza to Lorraine at the beach that afternoon. How did you know that she’d be there?” I asked and she retracted her hand from my chest like she had placed it on hot coals.
