Marrying my high school bully

A honorable deal

Chapter 74

Dexter

Dante lit up a cigarette and inhaled deeply while Drake let out a pain filled groan while taking the bullet out of his arm.

I’d have taken him to a hospital but I wasn’t ready for unnecessary questions, and since he was good at taking care of his injuries, I let him do it.

“Once again, thank you for saving my wife. I really appreciate it.”

He nodded, wiping the blood with a wet towel then wrapped his arm with a bandage. I didn’t know how I’d repay him but the heavens knew that I’d try somehow.

“It’s fine, boss. How’s she doing?” He asked.

“Pretty shaken up. She’s surprised that her stepfather is lurking around the corner so that got her scared, but I’d make sure nothing happens to her. Anyone who wants to hurt her would have to come through me first.” My jaw ticked in resolution because everything I’d said was the truth.

“Lorraine is a kind woman. She doesn’t deserve to have someone as wicked as him for a father. I swear I’ll kill him again if he ever comes close.” Drake looked more angry than I expected.

His eyes were blazing with anger and I was beginning to think that he was having feelings for her. But I shook off the thought, knowing that Drake was too ambitious and loyal to betray me like that.

Then I remembered Lorraine’s request and my heart settled. Finally, he’d have someone to distract him for the meantime.

We were currently at a safehouse owned by me, in a secluded area in Beverly hills. I met with the boys there whenever I had to see them or give them information like I was doing now.

Lorraine had asked me what I did. I didn’t do much apart from ensuring my own security without the aid of the cops. Nothing illegal, just trying to stay safe.

“Drake,” I called as he put on a black vest. “I’ll like you to do me a favor.”

“Name it, boss.” He replied.

“A woman will be coming to stay with you until we’re able to find Mr Jones. Her name is Stella and she’s Lorraine’s friend.” I informed him and watched his reaction.

His face twitched with disapproval but he masked it immediately with a nonchalant expression. “It’s all good sir. I’ll watch over her very well.” He assured me and I had no doubt that it would.

I signalled Dante who was engrossed in his smoke to come over.

“What about the skank? Is he still alive?” I questioned grimly.

“Yes sir, though he’s getting weak and he might pass out any time soon.” He said and I wrinkled my nose in disapproval.

“We don’t need him dead. He still has to tell us where his boss is and how we can get him.” I ordered, then turned away from them. “I can’t believe that my friends instigated such acts against my wife.” I muttered to myself.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, I reached for it and picked the call with scepticism seeing that it was a strange number.

“Hello, Hemming corporations on the line.” I said.

A cynical chuckle followed, one that sounded familiar and eerie. “Yea, I know who I’m speaking with. How are you son-in-law?”

“Leonardo?”

“You actually remember my voice. I thought you’d deleted everything about me from your memory?” His voice was taunting and annoying.

I couldn’t let him know that he was getting to me so I maintained my calm tone. “I don’t think I want to have anything to do with you, so tell me, why are you calling?” I asked sternly.

“Relax,” He drawled, “This could go peacefully if you want so make your choice and be very careful with me.”

His nonchalant demeanour was getting on my nerves. He tried to kill my wife, yet he acted like nothing happened and was demanding that I act calmly.

Was he really out of his mind?

“Don’t use that tone on me, Leonardo. There’s a reason I haven’t hunted you down yet.”

He burst into laughter while I dropped my phone and put the call on a loudspeaker so that we could all hear him. “You haven’t hunted me because you don’t know where I am, but don’t worry, we can have it sorted out.”

I snapped my finger and Dante headed swiftly towards me with his laptop. He made some connections and slowly began to trace his location.

To ensure the success of my plan, I had to elongate our conversation even though it was already pissing me off. “So what do you want? You never call me without a reason”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

I intentionally didn’t ask about the shootout yesterday because he would get livid, and that would be bad for me.

“Lorraine. I want her.” He stated without mincing words.

Over my dead body would he have her, but he didn’t need to know that.

“So you can abuse her again?”

“She has something that belongs to me or she might know where her late mother hid it before dying.” He insinuated and I scoffed.

Was he that dumb?

Lorraine’s mother died when she didn’t even know much about life, and now he was talking about a property that Lorraine had no idea about.

“I think you’re talking about the wrong person because if you can remember correctly, her mother died when she was little. How do you expect her to remember the details?” I spat, my temper rising to the surface.

Drake patted my back so that I could get a hold of my feelings.

“I don’t care, Dexter. I want to see her before the wedding or you won’t have a bride on your forthcoming auspicious occasion.” He threatened and I could sense the seriousness from his voice.

“That will never happen, Lorraine. You tried to attack her today but it didn’t work, what makes you think I’ll let you attack her again?” I fired venomously.

He sighed and I heard a clicking sound, then a familiar female voice that I couldn’t place. “Let’s have a deal then, one that I’m very sure you will like.”

My ears perked up in curiosity. “What honorable deal can you make?” I replied sarcastically.

“I’ll tell you where to find your friends, the ones who hurt your dear wife. But you’ll have to bring Lorraine to me. I just want to ask a few questions and that will be it.” He offered and I swallowed visibly.

The man was very good at baiting people.

“You aren’t serious,” I scoffed.

“I’ll give you some time to think about it then I will call you back, but have it at the back of your mind that my eyes are on you.” He said and the line went dead.

My head swarmed with several thoughts as I stared at Dante who looked frustrated. “Didn’t work?”

He shook his head. “He’s too smart. He’s using a burner.”
