Chapter Eight
“Be my maid”
Anderson dropped the bombshell.
“What? Your maid?!”
Alexa yelled, unable to agree with her ears
“Yes. Anything wrong?”
He saw nothing wrong with his offer.
“How dare you reduce me to the status of a maid?”
Alexa flared up.
“No! It’s not that way, I promise”
“Then what were you implying?”
Alexa asked.
“I mean… You don’t have a job. You’re searching for one now. I don’t have a maid or helper in my house, I live alone. Normally, I’m ok with living alone, but since you need a job, you can help me do my house chores”
Anderson explained.
“That’s the same thing as being a maid”
“Maybe?”
“So out of all the jobs in this world, you searched and searched, and being a maid fitted me?”
Alexa rolled her eyes.
“Well, truthfully yes.”
“Wow. Just wow”
“What do you want me to do? Give you an office work and employ you in my company?”
Anderson asked sarcastically.
“Well… Yes!”
“I see.”
Anderson laughed.
“With what qualifications miss?”
“With a high school certificate”
Alexa boldly replied.
“Impressive. I should employ a high school certificate holder in my company? That’s ridiculous. The thought alone is crazy.”
Anderson said.
“Well, whatever. I’m not going to be a maid for anyone, most especially not you!”
Alexa said and rolled her eyes.
“Do whatever pleases you, miss.”
Anderson said.
“I’m heading to my office. If you change your mind, you can contact me through this” Anderson brought out his card and handed it to her. He walked down the path, got into his car, and drove away.
“Stupid idiot”
Alexa muttered and started to walk away as well.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“Hey Lexie” Jace greeted immediately he opened the door and saw his sister.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Jace. How’ve you been?”
Alexa asked tiredly.
I’ve been in great condition. Welcome”
Jace beamed a smile at her.
Alexa smiled back at him as she made her way to the worn-out sofa in the living room.
“So how was your job hunt? You came back quite late. It’s almost 6”
Jace said.
“Well, it didn’t go exactly as good as I planned.”
Alexa replied.
What the f was she saying? It went totally bad. From searching to no avail to the lady at the bakery, the man at the bakery, Judy, and then that stupid jerk who reduced her to the status of a maid.
Remembering his job offer, her blood did nothing but boil. But she couldn’t tell all these to Jace. He was too little to handle everything going on in her social life.
“So, did you get a job?”
Jace asked grinning from ear to ear, Alexa feared his lips would tear.
“I… Ugh, I didn’t”
Alexa replied.
“What? Why?”
Jace asked, his grin leaving his jaw.
“I couldn’t get one.”
Alexa put simply.
“Oh… You’ll sure get one, won’t you?
“Oh Jace, don’t worry. I will.”
Alexa gave him a small smile and he moved closer to hug her.
“Alright. Did you eat lunch at the right time?”
Alexa asked him.
“Yes, I did. I finished the casserole dish you made for yesterday’s dinner.”
Jace answered.
“OK… I’m relieved”
Alexa said and stood up.
“Did you eat your lunch?”
Jace asked and Alexa knew she was done. She hated lying, especially to her brother. She was damn bad at it and it usually showed.
“Ughh… Yes, Jace. I ate lunch already”
She lied and her fingers wrapped around each other. Jace looked at them and frowned.
“Why didn’t you eat?”
He thinned his lip. He hated the way his sister always skipped her meals to save money for his drugs. It hurt him so much he’d wish every time to wake up with the hole in his heart closed.
“What are you saying, Jace? I did eat”
Alexa defended.
“What did you eat?”
“Ugh… I had some biscuits and a soda.”
“You may lie, but your fingers don’t.”
“What do you mean?”
Alexa asked.
“Take a look for yourself.”
Alexa looked at her fingers and realized that indeed, she’d been sold out.
“Alright. I’m busted.”
Alexa put her hands up and fell back on the sofa.
“I didn’t eat yet”
“Trying to save money again?”
Jace asked with hands crossed.
“Yeah. Your drugs, you remember? I was supposed to get it for you today, but I didn’t get a job and I needed transport back here, so I chose a bus over my food”
Alexa explained and Jace sighed and sat beside her.
“You shouldn’t be skipping your meals, Lexie. Even if you’ll eat later, meals taken at the wrong time do a lot of damage.”
Jace said.
“Wow… Where’d you learn this from? Not that I don’t know it, but you’re not up to Grade 8 yet. I learned that in Grade 8.”
“Actually… I went out today”
Jace gave a nervous smile with his hand on the back of his head, playing with his hair nervously.
“You went out?” Alexa popped and Jace nodded a yes. “But you know that’s too risky for you. Something could have happened to you”
Alexa said worriedly.
“But it didn’t. Did it?”
“Jace, it doesn’t matter if it did or not. The important thing is that you should obey me. You disobeyed me, Jace.”
Alexa frowned, disappointed.
“I learned a lot of things, so I’m soooo not sorry”
Jace smirked.
“You’re 10. You should be doing things I tell you, not stuff you feel like doing.”
Alexa said disappointment and anger all over her face.
“If you’re waiting to hear an *I’m sorry* from me, sorry, that’s so not happening.”
Jace replied nonchalantly and stood up from the sofa.
“Jacccceeeeee!”
“Lexieeeeeee”
Jace ran up the stairs and locked his door the moment he stepped into his room.
He laid down on the bed and chuckled.
Alexa was so damn funny when she was angry. He had a great laugh, picked up one of the books he borrowed from a new friend, and plopped down on his bed.
