I took all the time I could to process my thoughts and make sure I had what to say to my mom.
“Rachael,” my dad said when I got inside. They were pacing the front of the door.
“Hey Dad, Mom” I greeted nervously. Her red hair is packed in a ponytail. She does that whenever she is stressed. Her black eyes darkened tells me that she was really worried to death.
Unlike my mom’s worried features, my dad seems quite alright. His face was relaxed. His blue eyes which I inherited were calm and void of trouble. How blonde hair was perfect as always. I had black hair just like my grandma. I wished with all my might that I had my mom’s red hair.
“How are you? are you hurt? why didn’t you pick up your phone?” my mom ranted holding me.This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“I’m fine Mom” I assure her she just looks at me like I’m just sick to the head.
“Where were you? you got me worried” she said with all the worry in the world.
“Alice calm down, she is home now so chill,” my dad said trying to console my mom.
“I’m calm,” she said, leaving me and clenching her hands at her side.
“I went out drinking and I ended up having to spend the night at Woodley hotels since it was close by” I explained to my mom.
“Drinking?” she asked as if it was the strangest word she had ever heard. “Rachael you don’t drink what happened?” she said and I sighed.
“Mom I’m sincere, I went to drink because that deal didn’t go as I planned” I explained and finally my mom gets me.
“So you are upset because you didn’t get a deal and you went drinking?” my mom asked and I nodded at her. “My daughter,” she said, holding my face in her hands. “You will get many other offers,” she said, encouraging me.
“I’m so sorry Mom for doing that” I apologize and she stops me.
“I’m not angry just inform us next time so we aren’t worried sick please” she begs and I nod.
“My head is pounding so can I take the day off” I direct the question to my dad. I don’t tell them about the pain in my legs. I guess they won’t really care about that.
“Of course dear” he said before walking away. “I’m going to make some calls,” he said.
“Go freshen up so you can sleep,” my mom said. “I will have Rita bring something for you to eat and some aspirin,” she said, pushing me up.
“Thanks, Mom,” I said, making my way to my room. I took a shower and then dried my hair. I then changed into a nightie. I came out and saw a sandwich and a thermos probably filled with coffee and some aspirin by the side. I had the sandwich and the coffee before the aspirin before sliding into bed.
As my eyes began to close I then discovered that I didn’t have my phone. Much for sheer luck.
I quickly trodded to the phone downstairs. My mom and dad had finally left for work so I went to use the office line. I called my cell phone and it rang before someone picked it up.
“Hello, the owner of this phone isn’t around so please leave a message and I will relay it to them,” the voice said.
“Noah?” I said silently.
“How did you know that?” he answered immediately.
“It’s Rachael” I answered and he made a sound so as to say that he finally understood.
“You left your phone,” he said slightly.
“Yeah,” I said, nodding. “When can I get it?” I ask him.
“I can drive to a Starbucks near you and give it to you,” he suggested.
“Aren’t you busy today?” I ask “I can come get it” I suggest too.
“It’s no problem. I think I have a huge hangover so I’m going to come over to the Starbucks I saw on the way dropping you” he said and I heard shuffling.
“I will head out now,” I say as a form of ending the call. I ran upstairs and changed. I yelled for Rita that I was gone before going in my car to the cafe. I need that phone right now.
I stood outside the cafe so he wouldn’t have to go through so much trouble to find me. Soon enough a person’s shadow covers me and I look up to see him standing there.
He hands me the phone and I collect it gratefully. “Thanks and I’m sorry for all the trouble,” I say sincerely.
“It was nothing and I’m sorry about earlier,” he said again.
“It’s okay,” I say. Shifting from one foot to another.
“Let’s get coffee now that we are here” he suggests and I nod. “Coffees are good for hangovers and we both have mild cases of hangovers,” he said, opening the cafe door and leading me to the counter to order. I got black coffee and he got a latte.
I wanted to tell him that I didn’t know if this was a mild case because this was my first time getting drunk but my head was pounding. Deciding against blabbing away I just kept quiet.
“A black coffee uhn,” he said as we took our seats in one of the booths in the shops.
“It will keep me alive and awake” I explain and he nods.
“It’s weird because you are a girl,” he says.
“And it’s weird because you are a guy drinking a latte,” I say and he grins from ear to ear. “And I like being awake when I’m talking to my client”
“I’m a different kind of guy,” he says and I agree. “And so are you,” he adds.
“It’s obvious,” I tell him and his smile broadens. “And well I’m kind of a girl”
“I hope we don’t behave all uncomfortable around each other if we have to meet later in the future,” he says.
“I hope too,” I said and we sat there in silence sipping our coffee till the last drop.
I have to tell the girls what has happened now.
When I get back home I open the group chat for us girls. We have for the entire family and we have for girls only so we can discuss private matters. Although most times Cara and Lila always made noise about some irrelevant things, we still got around to talking about important things.
Me: Hey girls, I need urgent help
Cara: Who are you calling girls and what do you need help with by the way?
Ana: Cara please be more polite.
Leah: What’s up Rachel?
Lola: You are always busy so this must be important.
Claudia: Yeah what’s up Rachel?
Eileen: So?
Riley: Speak up Rach.
Me: How can one handle a one night stand?
Riley: A what?
Lola: Can you guys allow her to tell us what is up?
Reese: Please?
Cara: Did anything happen?
Me: I got really drunk last night and I woke up naked and well.
Ana: Rach tell us how it happened and why it happened.
Cara: The why is important, please.
Me: So I got really upset and I went drinking yesterday and apparently I got drunk and fell into a sex affair with Noah Lorraine. And I can’t remember anything.
Eileen: You drank alcohol? Since when did this start? You never drink alcohol.
Claudia: Eileen please not the point.
Ana: Guys please focus.
Cara: We are girls.
Lola: You did not want to be called girls a little while ago
.
Lila: Can we all meet?
Me: Can we?
Ana: Definitely Yes we can.
Cara: I guess we can.
Reese: Babe I am out of town are you okay?
Me: Yes I am. I am sure I would be. At the Woodley lounge right?
Leah: Yeah Babe
