The table was set and my parents were all giddy in their seats ready to meet my friend when the doorbell rang and I went over to open the door.

My parents jumped out and I cast them a look and they sat down back.

“Sorry honey we are just so happy to meet this friend of yours,” my dad said and that’s not the thing you get from your dad.

I opened the door to see Noah standing there in a button up white shirt and ash pants. He looked well trimmed but the tight expression and his face loosened when he saw me open the door.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

“Calm down parents are people, not gods,” I say and he laughs nervously. “Come in,” I say, leading him to the living room where my parents were impatiently tapping their feet.

“Mom, Dad this is Noah Lorraine,” I say when we come into view of them and my parents turn to face me and make eye contact with my dad.

“Nice to meet you, young man,” my dad said, extending his hand for a shake.

“You can call me just Noah,” Noah said with uneasiness. Yes, he was definitely feeling weird right now.

“Nice to meet my daughter’s friend,” my mom said and Noah’s eyes met mine in a questionable eye raise. Which I replied with a shrug. That was all I could think of.

“Come sit,” I say gesturing for us to sit on the couch adjacent to my parents.

“So nice for you to join us here,” Mom said and Noah just smiled and nodded. “Dinner will be ready soon,” she continued. They seemed very happy.

“We have something to tell you,” I say and my parent’s eyes land on me immediately. “It’s urgent, can we talk before dinner?” I ask.

“If that is what you want honey,” Mom said. “Let’s go to study” Dad finished for her. We all stood up and he led us to the study. Dad poured a drink for himself and Mom and one for Noah. He asked me if I would like some to which I declined.

“Sometimes I wonder if Rachael is really my daughter. Maybe I got her mixed up at the hospital” my mom said in a joking manner.

“What do you mean Alice?” Dad said in a joking and scolding tone.

“She is so like a goody too shoes,” my mom said and I rolled my eyes. “Other kids break rules and have fun but she behaves as if she had been an adult from birth. I was more of a rule breaker” she says, taking a sip of the liquor in her hand.

Wait till you hear what rules I have finally broken. “Thank God she is not like you Alice” My day was taunted and my mom laughed. They were always joking.

“So what is so urgent?” Dad asked and I shifted uncomfortably and faced them.

“Mom, remember two weeks ago when I went drinking?” I asked and my mom nodded.

“First rule ever broken,” she said with a smile.

“Well remember I got drunk, so drunk I ever had a hangover,” I say and she nods. They both nod and Noah is quiet. “Well, I did not tell you the whole story,” I say quietly.

“I knew there was more to that story than meets the eye” Mom exclaimed.

“I had a one night stand and lost my virginity to Noah Lorraine and now I’m pregnant,” I say in one breath.

“So you mean to tell me that you are no longer a virgin and you are pregnant?” my mom asked and I could see the shock on their faces. I waited for disappointment to show and the speech on how disappointed they were but it never came.

“And you are responsible?” my dad asked, facing Noah who just nodded. “Wow, that’s big news,” he admitted.

“I know I have just disappointed you. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have done that” I say, bending my head, tears coming out of my eyes.

“I’m sad you had to lose it like this but I was already feeling like you wanted to be a nun” my mom jokes.

“So what’s the plan?” my dad asked.

“We are doing exactly what you guys did,” I said and Dad looked at me.

“Which is it?” he asked, concerned.

“We are getting married” Noah spoke finally saying something.

“Are you guys sure?” Mom asked and we both nodded. “If that is what you want, then go ahead,” she said, not even caring.

“Thank you, Mom,” I said and he nodded at me.

“So when is the wedding?” Dad piped in.

“We don’t want her showing so we are looking at one or two months from now. She is almost a month along” Noah answered.

“When are we going to meet with your family?” my dad asks.

“We are meeting my mom tomorrow and after that, any date you pick will be fine by us” Noah answers.

“I’m so starving,” Mom said and she and Dad left for the dining table.

“It went better than I thought it would” I admit to Noah and his lips curved up to smile. “I imagined my mom pacing the whole length of the room and my dad with red eyes,” I say and the laugh finally escaped his lips.

“I’m glad they took it well,” he admitted. “Mrs Lorraine” he added at the end.

“Not so fast Mr. Lorraine,” I say and he smiles.

“Tomorrow is my mom’s turn,” he says. “This is going to be a piece of cake” he and I made our way to the dining room.

The dinner went well and Rita didn’t try to pry as much as possible. My parents acted as neutral as possible and I was grateful for that. His mother will be a piece of cake right?
