Chapter 9.
They bade themselves goodbye and Marco was highly delighted, the look of sheer elation was written on his face when he counted the money Fred gave to him, his only prayer was that he should get something tangible to do as soon as he gets to the big city, so that he can be comfortable and look after his mother.
He continued walking as he made mental plan of his departure, well he will be leaving for the big city in three days time and he can’t wait to tell his mother the good news, while on his way home, Marco kept on looking at the address Fred gave to him, each time his eyes sighted it, it was as if he were on his way to Accra already.
“So atlast my light is beginning to shine, I believe this is an open door for me, but if I get there, will I be able to get a job in time?” He wondered, he brushed the thought off concluding to try his luck in making his journey worthwhile productive.
When he got home that evening, he was smiling from ears to ears, still thinking of the happy prospect, and as soon as his mother who was trying to pack the clothes she washed that morning saw him coming with an elated smile, she halted packing the clothes and walked over to him.
Maria was carried away by Marco’s cheerful appearance, she ran towards him and gave him a big hug, thinking that he had decided a job he applied for.
“What is going on Marco? Tell me the good news, it’s been long I see you in this kind of mood, something tells me that the dawn of a new beginning is here at last” she patted his shoulder with a big smile on her face.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Mother let’s go inside, and i will tell you everything” Marco told her.
“Son you can speak from here, I don’t want to collapse by the time I get inside, you know iam very curious about things that concerns you”
“Oh mother you don’t have to be, relax yourself, and besides it’s a long story and it requires us sitting down and discussing it”
When they got indoor, Marco narrated everything about his day including the encounter with Fred, while telling her of his request to move over to the city
“Are you really serious about this?”
“Absolutely mother, you kyhow cumbersome it is to get a job in this small town, I think it would be worthwhile if I move to Accra, who knows maybe that is where my fortune lies”
Maria listened as her son spoke with enthusiasm, she remained silent for a while.
Not that there was anything unusual about her silence, since that had always been her distinctive peculiarity whenever she was confused.
As both of them sat inexpensively on the cane chair, Maria realized her silence was doing more harm than good, therefore she decided to bare her mind to her son, if only he would reason with her.
“So you mean you want to leave me like this Marco? How do you expect me to cope alone without you?” She stopped talking as a reflection of pain crossed her wrinkled face, she began to sob internii, she wiped away the bitter tears which was running down her cheek.
Marco could not withstand watching his mother cry for his sake, his mother’s tears were like a pool of blood flowing out of his body, he would rather prefer being lacerated, then having to sit and watch his mother eyes gush out streams of tears.
As his body temperature was increasing, same way his mother’s tears was flowing.
