Chapter 31 (Liam)
Chapter 31 (Liam)
Jullie ran from behind Liam and hugged Kalbreal, who again had no shirt on. His body covered in circular pieces of drawings, in the middle of the circles were letters written in beautiful Angelic designs of burnt orange and black specks around it.
Kalbreal lifted Jullie with a genuine laugh in his vocal cords, “What, Australia isn’t doing it for you already.” Broad shoulders flexed, as he swung Jullie around. He was almost as tall as Liam but bulkier in his built, and an arrogant ass, who got under Liam’s skin, and they say Angels aren’t conceited. He just hoped the Angel kept his tools away from Clare, because Liam’s generosity to Kalbreal only stretched so far, and Clare was beyond a hard limit- untouchable.
Which got him thinking of Calub, it had been days since they’d spoken. A thought of what his friend would say about Kalbreal shirtless and holding Jullie was enough to make anybody smile, especially since Calub had claimed Jullie. His sister thought Calub was another notch in her bed, she was going to be pissed when she found out just how wrong she was.
She got down and touched Kalbreal’s chest, where one of the sketched drawings had been slashed across. It was the only full black marking with an orange diagonal cut down the middle.
Jullie whispered, “Not the same without my three boys.” She couldn't hide the sadness in her eyes, which always got to Liam. But the reason behind it got to him more, his Jullie wanted a family of her own, she wanted kids. Unfortunately, it just wasn't happening.
Moving to Australia to stay with Calub while he trained was Liam’s suggestion. She was only back because Liam had asked her too. She had been running in circles with him and for him since she arrived, but he knew she wanted to be with Calub, as much as she fought it’ his sister always held her heart on her sleeves. He’d treat her with a new car when this was done, and maybe another boat, if she behaves, just the thought of spoiling his sister made him feel better. Jullie loved her presents from her eldest brother.
Liam looked at Kalbreal’s chest and the scar Jullie’s fingers brushed, knowing exactly what it meant to have your abilities weakened. Luckily he wasn’t an Angel, but a part of him dare crossed the thought to his mind, instead he brushed it off with a question to his sister, “Jullie did you find it?”
“No, but I was picking up something of Tempter origin in this place, what happened?”
“Franchesca Draiken is now deceased,” Kalbreal answered, slipping on a t-shirt, how convenient, “killed by Barbatos, the others should be in the realm by now, preparing for the moon ceremony. I came back to see if there was anything I should take Clarebella.”
Liam touched at his pocket, the phone, her phone, he almost slipped it out, but decided to hang on to it instead, keeping his hand in his pocket, “Such a sweet boy,” Liam said dryly.
Jullie gave him one of her famous death glares before she smiled so sweetly and touched Kalbreal’s face, “Give me a minute to get some stuff, and I better see you at home soon Kal.”
Liam was in no mood to argue about home and houses but he loathed the idea of Kalbreal living with them. For the past seven years, it had been constant confinement with Kalbreal around, especially this last one when Kole up and left without a trace for a year.
Kalbreal was always in his face, his space, challenging him, and just being there. To sum it up, it was the worst and torturous year of his immortality and he had some bad years. Liam secretly didn’t dislike the Angel as much as he wanted to, the boy was young, barely a millennium. In Angel growth, he was a teenager becoming a man, he hadn't even ascended yet. Many times Liam had wondered how his parents felt about him staying on the earth, Angels were very protective of their young at that age. Ones born as powerful as Kalbreal never lived in Asguard, they stayed in the Infinity. Where they were honed to be lethal.
He shook those thoughts out, he needed to check on Clare.
Kalbreal took out his hand, “Not going to shake it?” he said, “Afraid I’ll melt you away with my hotness.”
Liam bemused at Kalbreal wanting skin privileges again, asked, “I’ve known you for decades and I have not touched you yet, what makes now any different?”
“Perhaps you’ve changed your mind.” Kalbreal shrugged, “I have patience,” dropping his hand. Liam laughed at Kalbreal’s remark as Jullie returned with a suitcase of Clare’s stuff, “You should take it to Andraya.” She said, “I got a feeling Clare might be there sooner than intended.”
Kalbreal nodded in agreement, “Do you sense something.”
Jullie’s eyes went distant, leaving her irises full white, before purple slits splashed diagonally across, turning back to green, “She’s fine, better than expected for a girl who lost her mother. We should go, the moon ceremony will start shortly.”
Kalbreal took the black suitcase bag and was gone, leaving a sweet aura behind of musk and grapefruit.
Jullie snuffled in the air, “I love that smell.”
Liam pulled at her hair, as a brother would do in annoyance. She responded with a kick to his butt, following him into the apartment, “Are you EVER going to stop doing that, you should cut him some slack, he’s helping us, even if he doesn’t know how much, and come on his young, just admit you like him.”
Liam welcomed the thought with a loud cough, “I’ll clear this place up, should be as good as new, you clean her scent off everything.” Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Jullie smiled that knowing gleam in her eyes, “Is everything set? Kole keeps calling, are we going to tell him?”
“Not just yet, there are a few things I need to find out first.”
“You could just lure her with your charm if you want to sleep with her, instead of all this.” She gestured with her hands.
His eyes widened, his chest tightened, “Where do you come up with all your conclusions little one.”
“It seems obvious that this isn’t purely platonic, and I’ve spent two thousand years in hell remember, meaning I’m technically almost your age.” She shrugged, “By the way.”
“In your dreams, enough now with all this insane thinking, you need to go to L. A and keep Andraya busy, she can’t attend the funeral. If she doesn't budge tell her that there’d be eyes everywhere, those waiting for gaps. And pick a new car, when you have done, something safe and not too fast.”
She jumped and clapped her hands, her face transformed instantly into a huge smile, “I booked my ticket yesterday, Andraya would want more answer’s. We can’t keep them running in circles for long. We need another plan, maybe we should find out who's killing the Lightwatchers, it could be linked.”
He nodded, it was a good plan, “Contact Tash she’ll know what to do, I’ll get the answers we need in Asguard.”
“Ha, I'm sure we’re still banned for another three decades, risky.”
“It keeps things exciting, quick question if you’re going to L.A why not take the suitcase yourself?”
“I gathered earlier by your choice in attire our involvement is still under wrap, besides do you really want him spending all that time with her.” She moved her eyes across him to the robe laid across the Persian sofa, an amused smile crossed his lips, “Impressive, Little sister,
what would I do without you.”
“Live, of course, though it would be miserable and pathetic, possibly a little boring.”
