CHAPTER TWELVE
“Are you ok?” We lay on the bed to sleep. She’s laying in my chest as she played with my belly with her finger. “The other day I noticed that you were quiet, is there a problem, Mag?”
“I’ve let go of Paloma.” I pushed her a little and then looked at her.
“Why? I thought you really liked it?”
“I just realized you were what I needed.” I frowned at what she said. “Paloma has a lot of good memories with when I was a child, when I have a complete family. But I realized that I need you more.”
“What’s the connect? You can have us both.”
“I don’t want to split my time. You and your presence are what I need and not the Paloma.”
“I’m not stopping you. I understand and I’m not competing with your time at Paloma because I’m busy too. But even if we’re both busy. We still go home to the same house. We’re still together.”
“I still want you to know that most of all you are what I need.”
“Hey, why are you crying?” I pull her closer to me. “Yeah go ahead, do what you think is right where you’re happy, ok?”
“I love you, Blaze.”
“I love you more. So stop crying.”
“I will go crazy when you leave me.”
“That will not happen.”
“Please stay with me, Blaze.”
“I will.” Then she leaned over and fell asleep on my arm. I caressed her face peacefully sleeping.
‘I mean every promise that I said Maggie. I know I really love you and I promise I won’t leave you. ‘
I know she’s been going through something these past few days. I often see her looking at our picture at the wedding. Maybe, like me, she just can’t believe that our deal will turn into love.
I didn’t realize I had fallen asleep in that position. I woke up the next day with Maggie no longer beside me. I got up and went straight to the kitchen.
“Hi, good morning,” she greeted me then came over and kissed me.
“Good morning.” I pulled her waist closer to me.
“I made fried rice.”
“Really? I like the smell.” One of the things I noticed was that she was good at cooking. This past few days since we confessed our feeling. She is no longer interfering with me.
She’s a perfect wife to me and I’m so happy that we fixed our relationship early. Fortunately and didn’t end up in a big fight and annulment before I realized we loved each other as much as Phoenix. She is no longer flirting as she used to be. Because when she wants to, she says and we ended to bed.
“I am planning to file a leave. Dane agreed with me but maybe next week. I want us to go for vacation.” She looked at me because of what I said.
“Really, where?” She asks excitedly.
“Anywhere, where do you want?”
“Honestly, anywhere as long as you’re with me.” She seat on my lap and kiss me.
“Can we just go in Paloma?”
“NO!” I was surprised because she scream. “I’m sorry. I mean, I want something I haven’t been to yet.”
“Where?”
“I don’t know either.”
“Just think because it’s still next week.”
“Ok,” then she stood up and washed the dishes.
“Is it okay for me to be late later. Zeus, invited in BCC. Just us, no other boys, no girls because Dane is not there and has dinner with the family.”
“Ok, but how late are you?”
“About 10PM” she nodded in response. One thing I like with Maggie is that she is easy to talk to. Not a big deal to her at all. Which is different from what we hear from our male clients who purely complain to their wives that even when they were girlfriends they were rightly suspicious. Or maybe I’m just really trustworthy so it’s not hard to talk to my wife.
WE ARE at the bar. Dane not here and we are the only male friends here. The crowd at the bar today. There are regulars, there are new looks. We were just here in VIP while talking.
“So, Jace, what’s the real score between you and Margot?” Phoenix asked.
“Still. I can’t tell her we’re done.”
“You know what sucker, maybe it’s better if you say that while it’s still early. You’re just having sex without a label for you but for her it’s obviously she loves you. Have mercy on the person. It’s not just anyone but the sister of wife’s friend.”
“What am I going to do? She’ll get hurt.”
“She’ll be hurt and she’ll still be hurt. It doesn’t make a difference, sucker.”
“Wait,” we glanced at Phoenix. “Is that the priest who married you, Blaze?” I looked at the man he was looking at. It dances with women while carrying wine.
“It looks like him,” Jace said.
“Maybe brother, sucker?”
“I can’t be wrong, guys, that’s him. I noticed right away when I saw he was too young to be a priest.” Then Phoenix looked at me.
“You guys are too judgemental the priest just enjoying. Then no one knows him.” We looked badly at Jace. “Why?”
“You’re fucking, slow.” Annoyed Phoenix said.
The man left and went to the bathroom. I also got up to follow him.
“I’ll go,” Phoenix said.
“Wait for me there, suckers, I’ll get my gun first.”
I followed the man into the bathroom. He was washing his hands when I caught up with him. He was about to leave when I blocked him.
“Why?”
“Do you know me?” he just looked at me from head to toe.
“No,” then looked behind me. “Who are you? Are you one of the drug dealers?”
“Are you on drugs, father?”
“Stupid,” Phoenix whispers because of Jace’s question.
“Father? Are you my son?” The idiot asked with a laugh.
“One question, one answer are you a priest?” When I asked, Zeus pointed his gun at the man’s head.
“Wrong answer, asshole and the ant will happy in your brain.” Shit! I don’t want to overthink but fuck. Is Maggie cheating on me?
“Ok-ok,” he said with a raised hand. “What do you want to know?”
“My wife and I got married in Paloma Beach Resort. It’s been two months. Are you really a priest, is the marriage real?” The man looked at me and then looked at Zeus.
“I’m impatient, sucker, and my hand is already numb.”
“Miles, your wife’s friend, she just paid me.”
“Is she really my wife?” Why I don’t seem to want to hear his answer.
“Your marriage is fake.” Zeus lowered the gun then looked at me. What the rambunctious man said sounded like a bomb to my ears. Did Maggie know anything about what her friend did? I once heard the name of his friend but I have never seen her because she wasn’t on our marriage. Could it be that she hasn’t introduced me yet because they have a secret?
I kicked the man who fell to the floor then rebuilt.
“Come with me.”
“Where are you taking me?”
“Just come with him and don’t ask any more questions.”
We were in the same car using Jace’s hummer. I was the driver and Phoenix was next to me. In the back are Zeus and Jace with the man in the middle.
“Believe me, Miles just paid me.”
“Don’t be so loud,” Jace said annoyed.
We got home and I got off first. Maggie greeted me immediately.
“Hi, you’re early.” I hope my suspicion is wrong Maggie, I hope you don’t know anthing, I hope only your friend has a plan. Don’t mess with me Maggie because I don’t know what to do anymore.
“Someone’s outside.”
“Who?” she asked in surprise.
“Outside.” I grabbed her hand and carried her outside. Her eyes widened and she looked at me when she saw Zeus and Phoenix holding the man.
“Blaze,”
“Did you know?” I asks but not looking at her.
“Blaze, you promised you wouldn’t listen to anyone else. Let me explain.” It’s like I want to get lost in what she said. She seemed to admit that she knew something.
“One question, one answer, Maggie, did you know our marriage was fake?”
“Blaze, I’ll explain.”
“Yes or no, you know?” I looked at her. He looked at the man then cried and looked at me. “Answer me, Maggie.”
“Yes, but I don’t —-”
“Bitch.” I can hardly say.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Blaze,”
“I thought you changed. Manipulative, selfish, bitch.”
“Blaze?”
And I leave her.
