Four Months
Verena’s POV
The teasing glimmer in his eyes was what snapped me out of my dumbfounded silence.
“You could sleep in the bed and I’ll sleep on the floor instead.” I muttered in a low voice.
“We’ll sleep in the bed. And that’s an order.”
My lips parted on a sharp inhale. I looked at the empty bed.
An aching pulse rolled through me as I touched the bite mark on my neck. I shivered, then searched for a hint of disgust or even fear. I found none.
Damon walked towards the bed it sank down immediately when he lay down.
“What are you waiting for? Aren’t you tired?”
“I’m thirsty, I should get a glass of water first…”
His brows knitted.
“It’s a habit of mine.” I continued still looking at his ocean blue eyes.
“Very well, take your time Kinzhe.”
He’d bitten me. And thinking that this week or the next he might mark me with his stupid beliefs. I could not trust him, or anyone from them. He could be a merciless killer and sacrifice my life, possibly.
His bite had hurt, but only at first, and only for a few seconds. Then, it had felt…it had felt like being drowned in liquid heat.
My gut still tells I’m not safe with him.
Pressure clamped down on my chest as I started pacing towards the door.
My gaze tracked its way back to the door. I had to escape.
I didn’t have much of a plan, and very limited knowledge of the surrounding areas, but one thing is for sure I might find tracks to head back to the field they once found me.
I hurried to the stairwell, sticking close to the wall. I grabbed the meat knife on the kitchen to make sure I have a weapon when the worst might happen.
Stopping at the door, I listened for signs of life. When I heard nothing, I entered and raced down the steps, a surreal sense of deja vu hitting me as I reached the landing. I turned to the door that led outside. I reached for the door, opening it slowly.
The weather changed and the snow disappeared. It is now spring, fallen leaves might indicate something from his emotions.
“Shit sneaking off would really get me into trouble.” I whispered tiptoeing.
I’m a spy and I’m good at this but now all of my skills came flying out of my body.
I didn’t even realize I’d made it to the forest until the silvery moonlight became fragmented, leaving just enough light for me to not be taken out by a tree. I didn’t slow. I ran faster than I ever had, keeping the pace to put as much distance between me and the keep as possible.
The snapping of a branch stopped me as I climbed over a fallen tree. Looking down, I saw nothing.
A cracking noise came again, this time closer, sending a rippling wave of wariness through me.
My heart sank all the way to the tips of my freezing toes as the wolven prowled forward.
Shit it’s Damon.
His ears flattened as he climbed halfway onto the fallen tree, the claws of his front paws ripping into the wood. He dropped his chin, those pale blue eyes alert as we stared at each other.
He was waiting, probably for me to run, but I knew that wouldn’t end well for me. The sense of hopelessness, of how unfair this was almost brought me to my knees.
But I stood my ground.
I would not give up.
“If you’re thinking that I’m not fighting you, then you’re wrong.”
He growled.
“I don’t care what species are you or the lineage you came from. But kill is a kill alpha.” I continued. I position myself tightly holding a knife.
In a swift motion Damon is not standing on his spot. My heart drummed on my chest. Oh god, I totally forgot he is a freaking vampire.
“I thought you’re gonna get a glass of water?” Came a voice that sent a shiver down my spine and then over my skin. My head jerked in the direction of the sound.
His body is now fully clothed, that’s a relief.
“I want my freedom! I don’t want to participate in that shit bond thing.” I snarled.
“Don’t you wanna ask the things I want?” He drawled lousily.
“First of all the freedom I needed is me in the human world not in this crazy pack. Second of all I don’t care to what you want.”
“What about we make a deal hmm?”
Anger was sharper than any blade, far more welcomed than the hopelessness. “Deal your ass.”
“What about, you’ll stay here for a solid four months and after that I can escort you out in this ‘crazy pack’.”
I stayed alert as he stepped over the fallen tree I had as if it were nothing more than a branch. “I’m not interested in any deals. I’m interested in my freedom.”
“Not? Then I’ll send you to the dungeons then.”
“Wait what?”
“Kinzhe all I want is fairness. You’ll get your freedom but first you gotta stay with me first.”
That stupid pet name again.
“Why do your ass itch for my presence?”
He produced a low sexy chuckle, “Why do you ache for freedom?”
I clamped my lips together as the heat of anger warmed my skin. “Because it’s my right?”
“My ass itch for your presence because you are my mate. Do. You. Not. Understand?”
“To hell with you and your beliefs.”All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“Alright I can free you just tonight, but worst things will eventually happen to you.” His jaw flexed.
“Like what? Be eaten by a group of werewolves?”
“Probably? But not a group of werewolves though.”
“Then what?” I demanded.
His upper lip curled, revealing one fang. “Be eaten by me?”
“I’d rather die.”
“You obeyed to serve me for four freaking months. And once you didn’t serve four full months, your body will start to limp.”he remarked, his voice free of mockery.
I inhaled sharply.
His eyes softened and he continued. “Baby if you don’t want to sleep with me or even see me just say so. Just don’t fucking endanger your life outside without me.”
Damon struck as fast as a falcon with its prey in sight. He gripped my arm, spinning me so my back was to him. I tried to twist, but his arm clamped down on my waist, pulling me back against his chest.
“All I need is four full month to have you. I could save your life against the world. I’m still investigating if you are a witch.”
I started to twist my body to free myself
“I’m not a witch.”
“You didn’t even knew your parents. They could be from this realm.”
“H-how did you know about my parents?”
“You’re linked to me that’s why. I won’t stand a chance if you’re in danger away from me. It would kill me Kinzhe, because of the linked to my fucking mind and soul.”
My stupid, ridiculous heart skipped a beat.
“Just four months?”
“We’ll find out…” he said, his mouth brushing my jaw, followed by the graze of his sharp teeth, sending an illicit thrill through me. Would he bite me? An aching heaviness filled my chest and glided lower, igniting a burst of disbelief.
