Chapter 155 The Request of the Watson Family

Early the next morning, the sunlight slanted

Betty opened her eyes and looked at Kerwin who was still sleeping.

His breathing was even. His eyebrows were bushy and inky. The contours of his face were close to perfection. Betty looked till a smile appeared on her face.

All of a sudden, Kerwin threw his arm around her shoulder. Turned out he had pretended to All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

be asleep.

Abashed, Betty buried her head under the

blanket.

Kerwin also slipped under the covers and

kissed her on the lips.

They kissed for a long time. It seemed they

could do this all day.

Betty grabbed Kerwin’s groping hands. “No, don’t. It’s rare that both of us are free today, so why don’t we do something else?”

Kerwin thought for a moment and found her words reasonable. Staying in bed all day was

unhealthy, and he decided to give her a

break.

“It’s sunny outside and happens to be

Sunday. How about we go out for a walk?” he

whispered.

Betty pondered and found that she had never

been outdoors with Kerwin alone.

So…

Is this a date?

More excited than nervous, she nodded and

said, “I’ll get prepared.”

She walked to the dresser. Those expensive

cosmetics on the table gave her a headache.

She didn’t know where to start.

It was their first date, and she was supposed to dress up. Not a makeup expert, she just hoped she would not make a mess.

While her mind was troubled, she received a phone call.

Betty checked the caller ID. The name on the screen made her frown.

Roger was her father anyway, and she

answered the phone.

“Betty,” Roger said in an anxious voice,

“come to the villa. This is urgent.’

||

He rarely called her, and his request could not be anything good.

Is Roger in the mood to have a get-together? Unlikely. Probably, they want something

from me. She knew them too well.

Betty furrowed her brows and declined, “How about another time? I’m occupied.”

“Just come, Betty. Our house is also your

home.”

His words disgusted Betty. “I’m not sure about that. Anyway, I can’t go there, not today.”

“To be honest, I am ill!” Roger sounded more anxious and had a hacking cough, “Would you come and see me?”

He is sick?

Betty froze.

She was aware of his lung problem. Maybe, Roger was stimulated by the bad news about

his company.

He was old, and this was a heavy blow to him. Betty agreed in a moment of weakness.

After hanging up the phone, she looked at Kerwin and apologized, “I’m afraid I can’t hang out with you today. My father seems to

be ill and wants to see me.”

Kerwin thought for a moment and proposed,

“I’m going with you.”

Betty didn’t know if it was a good idea. What

if they found out it was Kerwin’s doing? There would be a fight.

Kerwin noticed her hesitance and added, “I

can’t let you go alone.”

Betty had to agree.

Kerwin called over Peter to ride them to the

place.

When they arrived at the villa, Betty insisted

on going in alone. Peter and Kerwin were told to stay in the car.

Kerwin nodded in agreement and watched

her get off.

After Betty left, Peter couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Martin, do we just let Mrs. Martin go alone? What if she is caught in trouble?”

“That’s not a concern for now. They don’t dare to do anything to her,” Kerwin replied.

“Mr. Martin, what do you say? Is Roger really ill? I haven’t heard about it. Do you have ulterior motives?” Peter said again.

“Anyway, they don’t have good intentions,” Kerwin grunted.

Betty entered the house, only to see Roger

sitting in the living room as usual. Emily and Daisy were also there.

She realized it was a trick and turned to

leave.

“Betty!” Emily shouted, “Are you leaving so

soon? Our last conversation hasn’t ended

yet.”

Betty stopped in her tracks. This seemed to

be unavoidable.

“Dad, aren’t you ill? You look fine, and I should go,” she said.

Daisy winked at Emily and came over with a

smile.

“Betty, we’re family. We shouldn’t hold grudges against each other. Come and sit. Have some tea and snacks,” she began.

Betty was astonished.

This woman had never been so nice to her.

Daisy dragged her back and sat her down on

the sofa.

“I heard that you got married to Kerwin.

That’s wonderful. You’re made for each

other! Why didn’t you bring him here for dinner?” she added.

Daisy knows that I’m married to Kerwin?

Betty soon figured it should be Emily who

told her.

Now their aim was self-evident. Betty

understood the situation and remained

silent.

Roger’s patience ran thin, and he got straight to the point. “Betty, you gotta help me and tell Kerwin to stop. We’re family

rather than enemies. It’s unnecessary to

make a fuss of trifles, don’t you think?”

This family had always treated her with hostility and ridicule. Now that they needed

her help, their attitudes changed completely.

Those people were fickle.

Betty sneered to herself but remained expressionless on the surface. “I’ve never

interfered with Kerwin’s business. Sorry, I

can’t help you.”

The Watsons froze and changed color.

Emily barked with a scowl, “Betty, aren’t you

so capable now? What, feeling proud of having a patron?”

“Emily!” Daisy reprimanded her daughter with feigned anger, “It’s impolite of you to talk to your sister like that. She is not that kind of person. Gratitude is the greatest of virtues, and everyone knows it. Am I right, Betty?”

She sounded so nice as if they were really family. Betty was disgusted.

Roger joined in the persuasion. “This is critical. Kerwin loves you so much. He will listen to you. Advise him to go easy on us,

please!”

Betty was irritated. “As I said, I’ve never interfered with his business. Even if I beg

him, he may not agree.”

“Betty, I am your father!” Roger lost his

patience and yelled at her, “Without our financial support, you would have starved to death a long time ago. There is no way your mother could bring you up by herself!” Now he revealed his true color.

She was disappointed to the core.
