Chapter 56 Pouring Milk
Louis pulled out a pure gold lighter from his trouser pocket and felt a gaze on him. He glanced over.
With a snap, a faint blue flame flickered at his fingertips, illuminating his resolute jawline. Blanche's heart skipped a beat.
Through the flame, Louis saw Blanche's clear eyes.
He smiled and started to interpret the meaning behind her gaze.
Blanche gently moved her lips. Since she started to become strong, she had always presented herself as strong, but this was the first time she had been humiliated like this by someone.
Blanche lowered her head, avoiding Louis's sharp gaze. Her face was sometimes pale and sometimes red as if a beam of red and white light alternated on her face.
"Bring a blanket." Louis extinguished the flame secretly.
A waiter immediately appeared from the dark corner and brought a snow-white wool blanket to Louis.
Louis raised his chin towards Blanche, and the waiter immediately understood. He then brought the blanket to Blanche.
"Here's your blanket."
Blanche was stunned and glanced at Louis. She took the blanket with a guilty conscience and unfolded it, draping it over her back.
The air conditioning in the room was turned on high, and after sweating, she did feel a chill.
The snap of the lighter sounded in her ears again, and each sound seemed to weigh on her heart.
Blanche Kent tightly held onto the blanket. Although Louis lost in the end, he still looked so dominating.
Because he never really lost.
Some people were chatting, some went to sing, while Blanche waited for the numbness in her legs to subside. Louis lit a cigarette and started to smoke.
Half an hour later, Blanche finally felt the numbness in her feet recede.
"We'll leave first."
Louis threw the lighter on the table and stood up.
Blanche was momentarily stunned. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Just when she started to feel a little better, he wanted to leave immediately. She was still planning to eat something.
"Alright, we should leave too." Daniel nodded.
Louis took two steps forward and then turned back.
Blanche slowly took off the blanket and stood up sluggishly, feeling weak all over.
When she stood up, she deliberately remained cautious, for fear that she would embarrass herself by falling if she stood up too abruptly.
Fortunately, she felt fine after standing up. Blanche then followed behind him.
Late at night, the road was unobstructed, and the two of them drove back to the villa.
Just as Blanche stepped through the doorway, she heard two servants discussing her with relish.
"Ugh, how could Blanche have the audacity to attend the banquet? With her ugly appearance, isn't she ashamed?"
"Exactly, she's so ugly, but she doesn't even have a shred of self-awareness. How shameless! I'm much more beautiful than her. Why could she marry Mr. Herbart?"
"Why? Because she's both ugly and wicked. Ha-ha..."
Blanche rubbed her temples. Well, these two were even more ruthless than Nicky when talking about her.
The two servants heard footsteps behind them. They were guilty, so they stopped laughing and looked over, only to see a beautiful stranger.
"Who are you?"
Blanche walked over, and the two servants didn't recognize her as Blanche.
Facing their questioning looks, Blanche wasn't in the mood to explain or argue with them.
Everyone was entitled to their own opinions and words.
Blanche walked straight past the two people.
"Who is she? She's so arrogant."
"Can't you tell? She must be Mr. Herbart's mistress. He brought her back."
"But why do I feel like she's familiar, especially her eyes... She looks like someone... like Blanche."
"That's impossible. There has never been such a beautiful woman in this house. I guess that ugly freak embarrassed Mr. Herbart at the banquet and was kicked out by the Herbart family. Mr. Herbart must have taken a liking to this woman at the banquet and brought her back."
As the two continued talking, Blanche suddenly found it interesting. She turned around and stood in front of them, smiling at them.
"You just said I looked familiar, and you were right. I'm familiar with you too because I am Mrs. Herbart, Blanche! Today is the first time I've taken off my mask. Remember my face. Tomorrow morning, don't mistake me for Mr. Herbart's mistress."
After saying that, Blanche shrugged her shoulders and walked away without looking back, heading to the kitchen to find something to eat. The two servants stood still in horror.
Louis came in after finishing his phone call outside and walked past the two servants.
"Collect your wages tomorrow morning and leave. The Herbart family doesn't need servants who gossip about their master."
Answering the phone call didn't affect him hearing the two servants' disrespectful comments.
"Mr. Herbart... please don't make us leave. We're sorry. We shouldn't have spoken recklessly." The news was like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky, and the two servants panicked.
Louis completely ignored them. He never went back on his words, not to mention they were just two insignificant servants.
Blanche brought a plate of food from the kitchen and sat down in the dining room. She picked up a piece of ham and put it in her mouth.
She licked her lips. The ham melted in her mouth immediately. For someone starving like her, it was a lifesaver.
If she had known she would eventually reveal her face, why did she bother wearing the inconvenient mask? She couldn't eat or drink with it on, and she was starving.
Louis walked by the dining table and saw Blanche eating with a healthy complexion. He stopped his long and powerful legs, tapped the table twice with his fingers, and spoke in a deep voice.
"Pour me a glass of milk."
Blanche pressed her soft lips with the golden fork and looked up at him, seemingly not understanding what he was saying.
Louis didn't repeat himself and instead looked down at her from a position of superiority.
Two seconds later, Blanche beckoned to a servant not far away.
"Come here and pour him a glass of milk."
"Did I ask her to serve me?" Louis controlled himself. It hadn't been long since they left the bar, and Blanche was already challenging him again.
"It seems that tonight's lesson isn't enough."
Blanche instinctively lowered her head and glanced at her legs, feeling that weak and tingling sensation in her mind again.
She shook her head forcefully, shaking off that humiliating feeling.
Her good mood was instantly destroyed. Blanche reluctantly put down her fork and told herself to endure for now to keep the peace.
She got up and went to the kitchen, returning with an empty glass. Then she picked up a large bottle of milk from the table and poured a glass, handing it to Louis.
Louis glanced at her before slowly accepting it. However, as he walked towards his study with the glass of milk in hand, a victorious smile appeared on his face.
