Chapter 665
Chapter 665
When Caroline woke up the next day, she saw her wounds had faded, but her scalp was still
aching. She stood up and opened the door.
Marietta was watching TV in the room. When she heard the noise, she turned her head and said,
You’re awake!”
“Yeah. Thank you so much for yesterday, Mom. You even came to pick me up at such a late time.”
“Don’t say such foolish things.” Marietta patted the seat next to her. “Sit down and have breakfast
with me.”
“Okay.” Caroline sat down beside Marietta.
Marietta looked at Caroline and said with emotion, “It would be great if my daughter was like you.”
She hadn’t slept at all last night. She had kept thinking about what kind of person her daughter
was.
Although she could more or less confirm that Yvonne was her daughter, she didn’t dare look up
any information about her.
She was afraid of seeing something she didn’t like. So she could only rely on that photo to
imagine what kind of person she was.
“Mom, I’m sure she must be like you, a warm–hearted person who’s accomplished in the field of
literature.”
“Haha, you’re such a smooth–talker,” Marietta chuckled. “By the way, how’s the script you wrote
some time ago?”
“I would’ve forgotten about it if you hadn’t brought it up.”
Caroline explained, “I just figured out the story’s outline, but I haven’t started writing it yet.”
“It’s okay. Take your time. I was also like this at first too, but as long as you start writing, you’ll
always make more progress than the day before.”
“Okay.”
“All right. You should eat your food. After that, you should go home and see Kirk. He must be
Caroline nodded at her words. After finishing breakfast, she waved goodbye to Marietta and headed home.
When she reached home, she was surprised to see Kirk there. She walked in, trying to act as natural as possible. “Aren’t you supposed to be at work?”
Kirk was usually at work at this time. When Kirk saw Caroline return, he strode toward her and hugged her.
Caroline almost couldn’t breathe because of how tightly he was hugging her. She whined, “Kirk, you’re going to suffocate me.”
Only then did Kirk let go of Caroline. When he saw the inconspicuous scar on Caroline’s head, he froze momentarily. Then, he tightened his grip on Caroline’s waist and questioned, “No one bullied you in the past few days, right?”
Caroline chuckled. “No one would even dare! They all know I have a husband who’s as ferocious as a tiger.”
Kirk ruffled her hair, deliberately avoiding her scar, and pinched her nose. “Are you calling me a tiger?”
“Am I wrong?” Caroline avoided Kirk’s hands with a laugh. Then, she nuzzled against his shoulder and whispered, “You still haven’t told me why you’re not at work.”
Kirk pulled Caroline to sit down on the couch. “The reason is simple: I’ve resigned.”
Caroline’s eyes widened at his words. “What, you resigned? Weren’t you-”
“I thought what you said made sense. I couldn’t stay in my former company any longer.”
Kirk took Caroline’s hands, carefully observing her expressions. When he saw that she was more shocked than happy, he shook her hand.
“What’s wrong? You … you don’t seem very happy. Didn’t you want me to resign?” Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
Caroline denied, “No, it’s not that. It’s just too sudden. I thought you would only resign some time later.”
“It’s not sudden at all. I have another important reason for not wanting to stay in my former company– Collins Group is for sale.”
