Bittersweet Obsession

Chapter 21: Stalking Her

Frank turned to the man beside him and said, "Sir, it's getting late. Maybe we should head back and continue our inquiry tomorrow?"

They sat in the car, parked on a quiet street somewhere overlooking the grand house from the distance. It was murky night, and the surroundings were eerily quiet. The only sounds were the occasional distant sirens and the soft hum of the car's engine. They observed the area closely, their eyes scanning the dimly lit streets and the shadows that seemed to stretch and move with the wind.

Judson leaned back in his seat. His expression was indifferent as he spoke without answering the question. "It's a rather gloomy night, isn't it?"

Frank glanced at him and nodded, agreeing with his observation. "Yes, indeed, sir," he replied, his eyes focused on the surroundings. He turned his attention back to Judson and suggested, "Perhaps it's best if we call it a night, sir. There doesn't seem to be much happening here, and it's getting quite late."

"Let's wait a little longer. We need to check back tonight to see if anything has changed. It seems likely that we will get a few things soon."

Frank nodded in agreement but couldn't help but express his weariness, "I understand, sir, but we've been at this for three days in a row now. It's taking a toll on us. Are you sure it's worth the effort?"

"We've come this far. We can't afford to back down now. We need to see this through. Just a little longer, and let's hope for some progress."

"I'm just concerned for your health. If she doesn't show up soon, we may have to consider other options."

"Don't worry about me. We've given her enough time. Let's wait a little longer, and if there's no sign of her, we'll have to change our plan."

"Sir, given that we haven't seen any sign of her, do you think there's a chance she won't be returning home tonight?"

"Well, it's possible." He wasn't sure what to expect, but he knew they had to be patient.

Frank fell silent for a moment, his thoughts gathering like storm clouds. Then, he finally broke his silence and respectfully asked, "Sir, may I ask why you're so interested in this girl, Tamara Sinclair?"

Judson kept his eyes on the dark street as he spoke, but there was a hint of mystery in his voice. "My interest in her stems from a need to understand the connection she had with Henry." He paused, and his jaw tightened slightly. "It seems she's a missing piece of a puzzle I didn't even know existed until now."ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

Frank furrowed his brow, intrigued by Judson's words. He leaned in slightly and asked, "So, do you think she might have some answers about Henry's secrets, sir?" He was beginning to see that the girl might be more significant than they initially thought.

Judson nodded slowly and his gaze remained fixed on the dark street. "It's possible. And given the circumstances surrounding Henry's accident, I can't afford to overlook any leads. We need to find out what she knows and why she was at the funeral." He paused for a moment before adding, "We just keep a close watch. We may be on the verge of uncovering something crucial."

"Do you suspect that Henry's accident might not have been a natural death, sir?"

Judson turned his gaze toward Frank with eyes that could pierce through the darkness. "It's possible. And if it's true, that girl might hold the key to solving the mystery." "Why do you say so?"

"You see, it's not a simple matter of coincidence. She was the one person Henry specifically wanted to meet on the day of the accident. They kept their relationship hidden from me before, which raises questions. I believe there's a deeper connection between them, something they didn't want me to know. I'm going to go further into their relationship and find out what's really going on there."

"And why do you suspect that Henry's accident might not have been just an accident, sir?"

"It's the way things have unraveled, the timing of it all. Too many coincidences that just don't add up. I can't help but think that there's more to this than what it seems."

Frank raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "Do you think someone wanted to harm Henry, sir? And if so, what would be their motive?"

Judson's expression remained inscrutable as he replied, "It's too early to say for certain. But I intend to find out. I have a feeling there's something fishy here."

The silence between Judson and Frank became more noticeable as time went by. It moved quietly past midnight as the minutes turned into hours. They kept their eyes on the strange, dark environments around them, looking for any signs or hints in the shadows.

In the distance, a faint silhouette appeared, moving away from the grand house. From where they were sitting in the car, it was hard to see any features of the person because it was dark outside. But it was obviously a girl. Judson and Frank exchanged glances and this surprising presence made them curious.

"Sir, it seems to be her! What do you think? Should we follow her? This could be our chance to learn more." Frank's eyes remained fixed on the distant figure with his curious expression.

Judson narrowed his eyes as he continued to watch the silhouette in the distance. After a moment of contemplation, he spoke with determination, "All right, Frank. Let's follow her. This could be a very important chance to find out the truth. Stay discreet and keep a safe distance."

"Sure, sir!"

Frank started the car by lightly purring the engine so it wouldn't get anyone's attention. He carefully moved it onto the dimly lit street, keeping a safe distance from her mysterious silhouette. With their headlights shining faintly on the empty road ahead, the car moved easily through the quiet night as they chased her.

As the car was kept a careful distance behind the silhouette, Judson's mind raced with questions. He couldn't help but wonder about what she was doing in the grand house and the potential secrets it held.

"What do you think she was doing in that grand house, Frank? And why is she out here now?"

Frank kept his eyes on the road, occasionally glancing at the silhouette in the distance. "It's hard to say, sir," he replied thoughtfully. "As for why she's out here now, that's anyone's guess. Perhaps she's on her way home, or maybe she has other plans." "Yeah, obviously."

The silhouette they had been following slowly faded into the dense forest until disappeared from view. The car's headlights could no longer shine through the thick darkness, making Judson and Frank feel slightly uneasy.

As they glanced at each other, they realized that their pursuit had ended in a strange and surprising way in the heart of the forest.
