Chapter 42
I shook my head and said nothing.
“Ms. Emma?” A trace of contempt flashed in Sylvia’s eyes, but she pretended to be polite and said, “you don’t know how tough this newcomer is. SHe can not even manage a trivial well.”
“If you need an assistant, ask HR to hire one for you. Don’t leave all the chores to the newcomers,” said Emma slowly.
Sylvia snorted, “You don’t know. Ms. Emma. I’m training her work skills right now.”
“Really? I’ll ask you to do exercises tomorrow. It’s been cold lately, and you are a little lazy.”
When Sylvia heard this, her face changed abruptly. She looked very angry, but she didn’t dare to lose her temper. She forced herself to smile and said to me, “Just see how considerate our Mrs. Emma is to our subordinates. Trista, if that is so, please do the work that Mrs. Emma told you to do first.”
I nodded. It was obvious that there was an unusual atmosphere between the two ministers.
It took until noon for Brenda to snap her fingers in front of me and say, “Newcomer, let us have lunch together.”
With a smile, I said, “Go ahead. I am almost done translating.”
“How about I bring you something to eat?”
“Okay, thanks.”
I continued to work diligently. By the time I finished translating the rest of the documents, twenty minutes had passed.
“Make it clear to the other side. Without thirty percent, don’t talk to me about the deal.”
“I have told them over and over that the risk is too great. Without a substantial reward, we dare not take the risk, but the other party has lowered the price….”
Suddenly, I heard the conversation between the two men.
I raised my eyes and saw my long legs passing by my office and heading for the elevator.
“Who is Mr. Donald? It’s impossible to do in front of him!”
“That’s right. If Mr. Donald finds out, we’ll die a horrible death!”
What were they want to do under Donald’s nose?
Hearing this, I hurried to follow them, hiding by the door and eavesdropping on their conversation
“I invited you here because there is no monitor in this corridor. It’s convenient for us to talk.”
“You are so considerate.”Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
I saw them turn around, hurried to follow them, and stopped at the corner.
The two were waiting for the elevator. One of them pointed to the building and said in a low voice, “He started from scratch and created such a great business empire. His abilities cannot be underestimated. No matter what happens here, we cannot escape his eyes. We must be careful now and not lose at the crucial moment.”
“I know. I’ll talk to them about the timing first. We can put it off. Because the more anxious we are, the easier we can give the show away. The success or failure is in this move, we have to be careful.”
As I looked at their backs, my heart beat faster and faster. Who were these two? What in the world was he up to? What was he going to do to Donald?
Suddenly a pair of hands reached out to me
“Hello!” a lively and sweet voice came from behind me.
I was startled and hastily looked back. It was Brenda.
“Who?”
The two people waiting for the elevator suddenly became alert and came over.
“What are you doing here….” before Brenda could finish her words, I immediately covered her mouth and dragged her away.
“Stop!” The two men realized there was someone there and hurried to catch up with her.
I tugged Brenda, who was carrying the lunchbox and stumbled forward. The smell of food filled the entire corridor.
“Throw that away!” I realized they were chasing after her, so I hurriedly threw the lunchbox in her hand into the trash can.
The two men heard the voice and followed her.
“Come out!” A majestic voice rang out.
I hid under the table and shook my head at Brenda, warning her not to rush!
“I know you are here!”
Brenda covered her mouth in fear and watched in horror as the two legs ran one after the other through the office space. Brenda backed away fearfully
With a thud, Brenda’s back hit the foot of the table. The two men immediately raised their eyes
Damn it!
This is dangerous!
I saw her walking towards Brenda and wanted to get up to stop her
The elevator door opened.
One of the men heard the voice and gave up. “Someone’s coming. Let us go!”
“She’s here!”
“It’s too late!”
The man glanced in the direction and reluctantly headed for the stairs
A new sound of footsteps came into the jewelry design department. Brenda and I looked at each other and stepped back more nervously
“Miss Trista?” said Ira.
Hearing the familiar voice, I stuck my head under the table and said, “I am here.”
“Miss Trista?” astonishment flashed in Ira’s eyes. “Why are you hiding there?”
“I…. I was playing hide and seek with Brenda.” I blinked at Brenda and said, “Right.”
Ira looked across the street
At that moment, Brenda came out from under the table. “Yes. Anyway, it’s very boring at noon. There’s no one in the office, so the two of us can just have a good time.”
Ira seemed to believe what we were saying.
“What do you want from me?” I looked at him.
“Mr. Donald, please come into your office.” Ira coughed unnaturally and added, “As for the morning’s work, please report on your experience.”
I knew it was a poor excuse.
“Mr. Donald, why are you being so hard on me now? Do you even need to know what the newcomer did this morning?” Brenda was taken aback. “Trista, what are you waiting for? Hurry up! Do not keep Mr. Donald waiting too long.”
“Well….” I turned to her and said, “don’t tell anyone about us. I am afraid they’ll laugh at me for being childish.”
Brenda understood what I meant and nodded hastily. “Do not worry about it. It’s good that we both know about it.”
I nodded and left the jewelry design department with Ira.
Outside Donald’s office, Ira knocked on the door and made room for me. I saw a table full of exotic flavors where a chef was cooking. The sound of gymnasts colliding filtered through to me.
“Donald, you run a restaurant. Why did you bring the kitchen here?” “What time is it? Have not you eaten yet?”
“I am waiting for you to eat together.” He closed the file and beckoned to me. “Come here.”
I sat down next to him and said, “I’ll go to the dining room to eat like the other employees. You do not have to wait for me.”
“No way!” He signaled the cook to serve the dishes. “I said that from now on, I am responsible for your meals. It’s my job to fatten you up.”
“I do not want to gain weight.”
“How can I?” He got her food and said, “How can you get pregnant if you do not gain weight?”
“Who says I want to have a baby?”
He looked at me lovingly and said softly, “I want to.”
I do not know what to say.
“….”
“What did you do this morning? Did you get used to it? Did someone bully you?”
I shook my head, “No.”
“That’s good.”
