Chapter 12 How Much Did He Pay You?
Edison put down the magazine and seriously looked at her.
Her hair was thick and black, and the store manager had helped her to let it down. The long hair hung over her shoulders, making her look more fair-skinned and elegant.
Edison was satisfied with everything except for her washed-out blue sneakers.
He stood up with a frown, went to the shoe shelf, and picked a pair of high heels for her.
She took the shoes over and found the size was exactly right.
"How do you know my size?"
Edison sat back on the sofa without replying and motioned for her to change her shoes.
She sat down, took off her sneakers and socks, and put on the stiletto heels.
"Please help me pack my old clothes and shoes."
The store manager nodded with a smile and asked the salesperson to pack up the new clothes they had chosen for her as well as her old clothes and shoes.
Coming out of the store, Edison drove the car to Grande Building.
It was an elegantly decorated two-story Chinese restaurant. The waiters were wearing blue robes, and the waitresses were in bright red cheongsams. And they all looked young.
As soon as entering the antique store, Gwenyth had the illusion of traveling through time and space.
There was a round pool with gurgling water at the entrance. Inside was a fish-shaped stone sculpture. Green algae plants were floating in the pool, and many ornamental fishes were swimming.
Seeing her looking around as if she had never seen the world, Edison stepped forward to hold her hand, put it on his arm, and said, "Hold my arm."
She nodded and followed him inside.
It was not the first time he had come here, so he refused the waiter who offered to lead the way. He passed the lobby with ease, turned into a long and quiet corridor, and led her into a private room.
There were two men and two women sitting around the mahogany round table. And Gwenyth saw a familiar face.
Nancy was here. Edison's "business entertainment" seemed to be related to Nancy every time.
Nancy was stunned to see Gwenyth. After sizing her up with her eyes, she instantly showed a cold look.
"Mr. Yates, good evening."
The two men hurriedly got up to greet Edison. After they pulled out two chairs, Edison took Gwenyth over and sat down.
Hearing their polite small talk, Gwenyth had a general idea of who they were.
The woman sitting next to Nancy was her assistant Estella Anderson. And the two men were the director and producer of her new drama.
And Edison was the investor.
When Edison introduced her to them, he directly said she was his girlfriend.
The director and producer were quite surprised to hear this and quickly exchanged glances with each other. Nancy was the heroin of their new drama, but she had just broken up with Edison. And Edison had brought his new girlfriend to this dinner. So, the atmosphere in the private room suddenly became a little embarrassing.
Edison indifferently said to the producer, "Since it is a business dinner, why did you bring an actress here?"
Nancy's heart skipped a beat, and she felt a little flustered.
She was afraid Edison would deliberately make things difficult for her and kick her out of the drama. She knew him well and would not feel surprised if he did such a thing for real.
The producer said with a flattering smile, "Mr. Yates, I can let them go if you want."
Edison expressionless replied, "No need."
When the producer breathed a sigh of relief, Edison asked, "Have you decided on the actress of the heroin?"
Nancy instantly tensed up, thinking he was asking while knowing the answer. She had made a lot of effort to get the role and had already signed the contract.
"Yes," the producer replied and winked at Nancy.
Seeing this, she quickly poured a glass of wine, raised the glass, and said, "Eddie, let's have a drink."
Edison didn't favor her but coldly looked at her and asked, "Who told you can call me Eddie?"
"Mr. Yates, let's have a drink."
Edison didn't touch the glass in front of him but said, "I'm feeling unwell, so I can't drink alcohol."
"Can your girlfriend drink?"
Nancy targeted Gwenyth and said, "Drink it for Mr. Yates. As his girlfriend, you must be useful. Didn't you hear he is feeling unwell? Why don't you offer to help him drink the wine?"
Gwenyth slightly frowned. When she looked at Edison, he was smiling without any intention of stopping Nancy.
Gwenyth bit the bullet, picked up the wine glass, and downed a glass.
There were many bottles of wine on the table.
After Gwenyth finished one glass, Nancy soon asked her to drink the second and third glasses. Then, she even asked her assistant to drink with Gwenyth. Edison didn't say anything to stop them, so even the director and producer thought Gwenyth had come here to drink for him and began to drink with her.
Gwenyth had not eaten anything before drinking so many glasses of wine in succession, so she felt her stomach burning and said, "Sorry, I need to go to the lavatory."
She got up and hurried out of the private room. As soon as she rushed into the lavatory, she vomited all the wine she had drunk.
She estimated she had drunk a bottle. She didn't want to drink anymore, so after simply washing her face and rinsing her mouth, she hid in the lavatory to kill time.
Suddenly, an ironic voice asked, "How much did Eddie pay you?"
Gwenyth look back and saw Nancy standing at the entrance with her arms folded over her chest. She was slightly raising her chin and haughtily looking at her.
"He hired you, right?"
Gwenyth leaned against the sink in silence.
Nancy stepped in and closed the door. After her high heels rattled, she soon walked up to Gwenyth and said, "I don't think you can afford the dress. Did Eddie buy it for you?"
"Miss Shandy, if you have any questions, please go to ask Edison."
"I won't ask him! I will only ask you! I know he hired you to anger me. How much did he pay you?"
When Gwenyth walked past Nancy, the latter suddenly grabbed her wrist and asked, "Did you sleep with him last night?"

"Answer me!"
"I have nothing to say."
"Do you think Eddie is interested in you? He's using you to get back together with me. Don't be fooled by his face. He's just playing with you. Even if he slept with you, he will not be responsible. He is playing with your feelings."
"I do not mind it."
With a cold face, Gwenyth forcefully shook Nancy's hand away and walked toward the door. But when she pulled the door open a little, Nancy suddenly kicked her waist. She instantly stumbled forward and hit on the door panel with a bang.
She endured the pain and stabilized herself. Hearing the rapid footsteps approaching her, she instantly turned around. But before she could react, Nancy tightly grabbed her hair.
"Miss Shandy, let go!"
Gwenyth could not understand it. Since Nancy had discovered Edison had hired her as a fake girlfriend, why was she still making trouble and even hitting her?
"No way!"
Nancy was fuming with anger when dragging her to the sink and saying, "I know what you're planning. I've seen a lot of women like you. Don't you just want to take this opportunity to sleep with Eddie?"
