Chapter 372 Zed's Defense

Chapter 372 Zed's Defense

'Would Zed blame me if he knew about this?' wondered Jean. Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.

Seeing Zed gazing at her doubtfully, Jean immediately felt uneasy.

Without his consent, she told Grandpa Benjamin that their marriage was just a deal. Zed hated

discussing the past, so his reaction couldn't be nice.

The more Jean thought about it, the more frightened she became. It had reached an extent where she

was afraid to look at Zed.

Watching Jean dodge his eye contacts, Zed's eyes sharpened with doubt. Quickly, he scanned and

perceived the unusual atmosphere in the living room.

First, his eyes stopped at Benjamin, who was sitting on the sofa in a huff. Then they slowly analyzed

Dan and Jesse who had the same complicated expression. All of this brought a look of seriousness into

Zed's face.

'What exactly happened in my absence?' Zed thought, trying to make sense of the situation.

"Well, Zed, you are just in time!" Benjamin spoke, bringing Zed back from his thought. He stared at Zed

angrily. "Tell me honestly, did you give Henry a piece of land in order to marry Jean?" asked he.

The second this question was dropped, Zed had a stunned look on his face. Earlier, he didn't want

Benjamin to know about this story.

It was because that decision was made on an impulse and he was certain Benjamin wouldn't approve

it.

Now Zed was happy to have made that impulsive decision. In fact, he realized that was the best thing

he had done in his life.

If he hadn't done that, his life wouldn't have been this beautiful now.

"Ah, you mean this!" Zed responded immediately, sounding relieved. Then he smiled and looked at

Benjamin with a soft sigh. "Although the rumors outside of it are somewhat unpleasant to hear, it's true.

But grandpa, you know my temperament. If I didn't like Jean then, do you think I'd trade a piece of land

for our marriage?" he asked with a smile.

"What do you mean?" Benjamin frowned instantly with displeasure. "You mean you gave Henry the

land because you liked Jean?"

"Sure." Looking at Jean, who was gazing at him in surprise, Zed smiled at her. Then he continued,"And

that is my bride-price to the Wen family. But apparently, I married a good wife. She loves me and

doesn't want me to pay so much for her, so she brought the land back for me from Henry."

Hearing that the land had not been given to the Wen family, Benjamin's angry face suddenly softened

and he looked at Jean with affection. "Why didn't you say that?"

Jean grinned back at Benjamin and thought, 'When you heard that Zed and I were married for the land,

you lost your temper. Did you give me a chance to say that?'

"What Jean? It is a big thing. Why didn't you explain it clearly to grandpa?" Zed also looked at Jean

and asked with a gentle smile.

Looking up at Zed, Jean felt warm as she observed his gorgeous face and the tenderness in his smiling

eyes.

Originally, she wanted to euphemistically reveal that her marriage to Zed was based on a deal, but she

didn't expect Jesse to put it so bluntly. And all this obviously angered Benjamin and Jesse's wish

worked.

Fortunately, she was able to escape Benjamin's criticism since Zed had come to her rescue. 'Thank

God!' Internally she said this and felt relieved.

Jean sighed deeply thinking what could have happened if Zed wasn't so supportive. Quickly, she

glanced at Jesse lightly and passed her a smile. And then she replied,"It's not that I didn't want to

explain the whole story, but grandpa lost his temper as soon as he heard Jesse say that we were

married because of a deal. That is when I realized it would be useless to say more at this time. I was

waiting for grandpa to calm down before I could continue."

With just a few words, Jean smartly put all the blame on Jesse.

After Zed appeared, Jesse assumed he would be mad at Jean. But her heart broke into pieces as she

watched Zed heartily help Jean explain the story to Benjamin. The smile on her face had disappeared,

and only anger and hatred for Jean remained in her heart.

Now hearing that Jean had put the blame on her, Jesse became more resentful and wished to kill her.

But Zed and Benjamin were present so she had to play safe. Venting her anger was not a choice, so

she had to hide her temper and pretend like nothing was wrong.

"I see." Zed was looking at Jesse thoughtfully. And she was also looking back at him with an innocent

expression. He sighed deeply in his heart. "But Jesse certainly didn't mean it," he said.

As soon as Zed finished, Jesse had a big smile on her face and nodded hard to Zed.

Now Jean's happy expression changed into anger when she heard Zed's support for Jesse.

Watching them maintain an eye contact infuriated her even more.

"Yeah! I don't think Jesse did it on purpose, either. Otherwise, how can someone as nice as Jesse do

something so wrong? How can Jesse possibly have such a sinister mind? Zed, don't you think so?"

Jean asked, looking at Zed with a sarcastic smile.

"Sure, I agree with you. I, grandpa and Grandpa Dan know Jesse very well. She will never wish to

create problems for this family." Zed nodded in agreement while he spoke.

"But I'm still a little curious. Jesse, why did you mention it in front of grandpa?" Jean was mad watching

Zed defend Jesse, but she managed to hold back her anger for the time being.

Calmly, Jesse replied,"You are the one who told Grandpa Benjamin that Henry had done a lot of awful

things. You went on to explain that it is the reason behind you and Zed not visiting him at the hospital.

Then Grandpa Benjamin was curious to know the reason behind such a strained relationship. Without

thinking much, I told him about it. Was my explanation not right? Did I miss something out?" Jesse put

forth all these questions with a look of innocence on her face.

But when Zed heard Jesse's words, he frowned and his expression changed immediately. Nobody

knew what he was thinking.

Jean had not expected Jesse to come up with a prompt reply. Hearing it, she was a little angry, but

there was also a flash of inspiration in her mind.

To be honest, Jean had wanted to come clean. If Jesse hadn't explained, Jean would have explained it

herself. She hated keeping secrets from family and knew their relationship would become a lot better

without them.

After all, she considered Benjamin to be a major part of her life now.

She was a little hesitant to speak because she wasn't sure if Benjamin knew about the land or not. Zed

never mentioned about it to her before.

So when Jesse did the job for her, she couldn't do anything but nod.

'But the point is that Jesse had no right to speak for me. How can she shamelessly put my story so

bluntly?'

Jean's eyes lit up at the thought.

'Jesse, you've been trying to ruin my relationship with Zed, and you end up taking actions without

thinking much. Do you realize that today you have dug your own grave?

Didn't you always rely on Zed to defend you?

Then today let me see whether he'll still protect you or not!'

"I know I said that my father made a mistake, but I wasn't talking about the land." Jean sighed softly

and looked helplessly at Zed.

Seeing Jean looking at him with innocent eyes, Zed suddenly understood what she was trying to

convey.

In truth, Jean wouldn't have told Benjamin about the transaction of their marriage if it were not for

Jesse.

In short, the trouble was going to be caused because of Jesse.
